Mysterious assassins and unexpected revelations put Det. Lily Diaz onto a case where she is personally more involved than she had initially thought.

I/E. UNMARKED POLICE CAR / ALLEY — DAY

Det. Lily Diaz and Det. Marceau Clement sit in their car. There’s a police scanner humming with information.

Their eyes are glued to the opposite side of the street where there’s another alleyway and a set of maroon doors.

Lily looks down. She opens the glove box and pulls out her holster attaching it to her belt. She pulls out the gun and checks the magazine, ensuring the safety is on.

Marceau’s eyes do not move. His hands rest on the steering wheel, gripping the leather.

Lily reaches over to the scanner, turning the volume dial.

POLICE SCANNER 2
Quebec 13, are you in position?..

Lily quickly picks up the radio and brings it to her mouth, her eyes fixed at the doors.

LILY
This is 2 Quebec 13, we are currently in position. No sign of movement…

POLICE SCANNER
Copy that 2 Quebec 13…

The detectives sit tight. Marceau’s wristwatch irritatingly ticks. Each tick increasing its own emphasis.

Lily looks into the side mirror. She sees a door open behind them. A worker bringing out a rubbish and chucking it into a dumpster.

TSHHH!!!

The maroon doors swing open. Two armed suspects run out, each carrying a duffel bag and each wearing a balaclava.

Marceau starts the car and drives forward. Lily picks up the radio.

LILY
This is 2 Quebec 13, two armed suspects have exited the building…

POLICE SCANNER
Copy that 2 Quebec 13, additional units have surrounded the area, pursue immediately…

The car flies across the road. Lily pulls her gun out, aiming it at the suspects through the windshield.

The suspects see the car barrelling towards them and start running down the alleyway away from the road.

Lily picks up a different radio.

LILY
This is the police! Stop immediately!

Marceau drives the car down the alleyway, quickly catching up the suspects.

The suspects keep running, straight into a fence.

The first suspect immediately throws their duffel bag over the fence and starts climbing.

The second suspect anxiously looks towards the approaching car.

LILY (CONT’D)
Police! Stop!

The first suspect jumps down, picking up their bag. The second suspect throws their duffel bag over to be caught by the other.

Lily and Marceau have reached the fence. Marceau stops the car and they both jump out.

The second suspect jumps up, trying to climb over the fence.

MARCEAU
Get down! Now!

The first suspect hesitates but bolts, carrying both bags.

Lily runs with her gun drawn at the second suspect. Marceau holsters his gun and grabs the second witness dragging them to the ground and cuffing their hands behind their back.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
I got this you go!

Lily nods, holsters her gun and climbs the fence, jumping down on the other side.

A helicopter flies overhead, following the first suspect.

Lily sees the suspect further ahead, running out to another road.

Two police cars screech to a halt, blocking the alley exit.

The suspect stops, they look back to see Lily gaining on them. They turn to their side, a backdoor. They run in.

Officers come out of their vehicles, guns drawn. They spot Lily. She makes a signal for them to surround the building. They nod and run off.

Lily runs into the backdoor.

INT. OFFICE BUILDING / STAIRWELL — DAY

Lily comes to a staircase. She looks up the stairwell but can’t see anyone.

TSHHH!!!

She hears a door slamming a few floors up. She runs up the stairs, still clutching her gun.

INT. OFFICE BUILDING / OFFICE FLOOR — DAY

Lily bursts through a door.

People are currently standing up from their cubicles with security guards ushering them towards the exits.

Lily scans the room looking for the suspect. She looks down, there’s a balaclava on the floor.

She quickly looks up, her eyes darting around the floor. She looks towards the exit.

People flood down the right path towards the common use stairwells but one person goes to the left…

Lily can’t see if they’re carrying anything, but that doesn’t matter. She runs towards the exit, turning left to see male bathrooms.

She runs down the corridor, she reaches the door. She looks down the rest of the corridor but no one is there. She goes in.

INT. OFFICE BUILDING / MALE BATHROOMS — DAY

The door swings open.

LILY
Police! Come out with your hands up!

Lily carefully scans the room. She passes the open cubicles, making her way to the final and closed cubicle.

LILY (CONT’D)
Police! Come out now!

No one comes out. She breathes out and kicks the door down.

A person jolts back.

POOPER
Don’t shoot! Please!

Their trousers are bunched around their ankles, their hands raised in terror.

Lily has a concerned expression. Her head turns towards the exit. There’s a small bin right next to it.

She walks over and takes the lid off. There’s a gun and a jacket, the same jacket the suspect was wearing.

EXT. OFFICE BUILDING / STREET — DAY

Lily walks out of the entrance. The pooper being walked off by a uniformed officer.

She looks across the crowd of workers waiting to be let back in. Security guards and police try to keep them calm.

She looks up to the sky and sees the police helicopter flying past the sun.

I/E. LILY’S MEMORIES

Lily looking up at the sun. Everything looks hazy. Every sound is muffled.

Lily is sitting on a beach. She feels sand under her hands and feet.

She hears the muffled sound of a young girl giggling.

VOICE OF A MOTHER (O.S.)
(playfully)
I’m gonna get you!

The muffled giggling continues with shrieks of excitement.

VOICE OF A MOTHER (O.S.) (CONT’D)
I’m gonna to get you!

Lily looks at the sun. She hears a buzzing.

INT. CEDRES CLINIC / DOCTOR’S ROOM — EVENING

Lily is looking up at the ceiling light. It’s low buzz annoys her.

Blood is being drawn out of her arm. Purple tendril blemishes cover her bicep and reach down her forearm. She appears to be lost in thought.

The door swings open.

DR EL
Right Lily, your previous blood work is okay, it could be better.

A doctor comes to sit at his desk, he places down his clipboard next to his computer. The screen is covered in a logo with ‘Cedres Labs’ written under it.

Dr El turns to Lily.

DR EL (CONT’D)
You’re getting metal poisoning. It could be because of some bullets stuck in your arm. Now I’m not sure it’s the cause of the bruising but I would still like to do some more tests and remove anything metal from you.

LILY
How much do you want to charge for that?

Dr El stifles a chuckle.

DR EL
It will get worse.

He nods while looking at her.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Just think about doing the surgery.

Dr El shuffles his chair closer to Lily and takes out the needle. He places a cotton ball over the puncture site.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Hold this for me.

Lily holds the cotton ball with her other hand. She watches Dr El. He shuffles back and starts inputting data into Lily’s records.

DR EL (CONT’D)
And how is everything else?

Lily nods slightly.

LILY
Okay.

DR EL
Any nausea? Vomiting?

LILY
No.

DR EL
Are you getting any tingling in your hands or feet?

LILY
No.

DR EL
Okay. How is work? Not too stressful?

LILY
It’s fine.

Dr El looks over at Lily. She’s clearly reserved here. He looks back to his computer. He types some final lines and sits back.

DR EL
Alright. I’ll see you back here in a month. Come to the front when you’re ready.

Dr El stands up and grabs the blood bag. He walks out of the room.

Lily pulls the cotton ball away. The bleeding has stopped. She puts on her coat.

INT. CEDRES CLINIC / RECEPTION — EVENING

Lily walks into the reception and stands in front of the desk.

There’s a receptionist on the landline phone in her hand on one side and has a mobile phone squished between her ear and shoulder on the other side.

RECEPTIONIST
Yeah, we can take you next Thursday… No we won’t do that… Sorry say that again?.. We can take you next Thursday…

Lily looks at the receptionist. Dr El comes out he hands over a clipboard with a single sheet on it.

Lily grabs it and signs her name at the bottom quickly.

RECEPTIONIST (CONT’D)
Yeah we’ll do that… Just come in yeah, we’ll sort it out for you.

Lily passes back the clipboard. She looks back at the receptionist.

Dr El hands over a card reader.

DR EL
Here.

Lily pulls her credit card out and taps it.

RECEPTIONIST
Okay thank you… Goodbye…

Dr El looks at the card reader. The transaction has gone through, he pulls the card reader back.

Lily looks behind the desk. There’s a bin and a stack of empty duffel bags next to it.

LILY
Duffel bags?

DR EL
Hmm?

Dr El turns around and looks down.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Oh yeah, they’re free for staff. They make a good gym bag if you want one? No charge.

He chuckles.

LILY
No that’s okay.

Dr El picks up the signed paper.

DR EL
Well, thank you Lily, I’ll see you soon.

Dr El turns around and walks off.

The receptionist takes the mobile phone into her hand and starts talking.

RECEPTIONIST
Sheila, you there?… Good cause oh my god Sheila these customers are so annoying…

Lily is looking at the receptionist while putting her credit card away. The receptionist catches her and gives her an uneasy smile.

RECEPTIONIST (O.S.) (CONT’D)
Yeah I know…

Lily awkwardly smiles back and turns around, walking out.

EXT. CEDRES CLINIC — EVENING

Lily walks out of the shabby clinic and across a small car park to her car.

She looks towards the clinic and opens the car door. She gets in.

I/E. LILY’S CAR / STREETS — NIGHT

Lily drives towards a block of flats and into its garage.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / GARAGE / ELEVATOR — NIGHT

Lily walks through the garage towards the elevator. There’s a father and daughter in already.

The young girl is maybe 3 or 4. She is holding a small bag with just a few small items, light enough for her to carry.

The father holds two full bags in each arm.

FATHER
Are you sure it’s not too heavy?

DAUGHTER
I want to hold it.

FATHER
Okay, okay.

He smiles at his daughter.

Lily walks into the elevator. The father looks up to her.

FATHER (CONT’D)
Hi.

He smiles at Lily. She smiles back.

LILY
Hey.

FATHER
Which floor?

The father reaches the panel with his spare hand. One floor is already lit up.

LILY
Oh no, don’t worry…

She points to the panel. She chuckles.

LILY (CONT’D)
I’m the same floor.

The father nods. Lily looks down to the daughter. The daughter is looking up at her smiling. Lily smiles back.

The doors close and the elevator starts ascending.

FATHER
I’m Derek. This is Chloe.

He gestures to his daughter. Lily nods.

LILY
Lily.

DEREK
Nice to meet you.

LILY
You too.

They smile at each other.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / ELEVATOR / CORRIDOR — NIGHT

The elevator doors open. Derek gestures for Lily to walk out first.

LILY
Thank you, it was nice to meet you.

DEREK
You too.

Derek turns to his daughter.

DEREK (CONT’D)
Come on.

Chloe rushes to a nearby door and waits anxiously as Derek strolls towards it.

DEREK (CONT’D)
(teasingly)
You’re too fast for me.

CHLOE
Hurry up!

Lily walks down the corridor to her door. As she opens it, she looks back to Derek and his daughter.

Derek opens the door and lets Chloe inside. He goes in and closes the door behind him.

Lily looks towards the closed door and then goes into her own flat.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / LILY’S FLAT — NIGHT

Lily switches on the lights and dumps her phone and keys on a counter next to a pile of letters. The letter on top of the pile has the ‘Cedres Labs’ logo.

Lily goes into the kitchen and opens the fridge. She takes a bottle of juice and takes a swig of it.

She pulls out a plastic container full of leftovers and shoves it into a nearby microwave.

She sets the timer and walks over to a sofa, switching on her television.

Something starts playing…

TSSSK!!!

Everything goes dark. Lily looks over to the microwave which is now off.

She lets out an irritated sigh and stands up. She walks over to her counter. She grabs her phone and keys.

BANG!!!

Lily snaps her head to the direction of the sound. She runs into her bedroom.

She goes to a drawer and pulls out her personal gun. She runs back to her front door.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / CORRIDOR — NIGHT

Lily slowly walks through the dark corridor. She tries using the flash on her phone to navigate. An eerie silence rings through her ears.

LILY
Police! Is everyone okay?!

Lily walks down towards the elevator. She pauses, goes on her phone and calls the police.

LILY (CONT’D)
This is Detective Lily, shots fired at … fourth floor. Paramedics needed…

Derek’s flat’s front door opens. A shadowy figure walks out. Lily points her flash at them, but can’t make out any features.

LILY (CONT’D)
Hello?

The figure looks at her for a moment and walks off into the darkness.

Lily comes closer to the flat.

LILY (CONT’D)
Hello? Is everyone okay?

Lily can now hear the faint sounds of sirens approaching. She makes it to the door.

LILY (CONT’D)
Derek? Are you there?

UNKNOWN VOICE (O.S.)
(weakly)
Help…

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / CORRIDOR / DEREK’S FLAT — NIGHT

The sirens are getting louder.

Lily comes into the flat. She shines her flash across flat. The balcony doors are open. She looks down to the floor. Derek is laying in a pool of blood.

LILY
Oh my god…

Lily holsters her gun and comes down to Derek. He’s been shot in the lower abdomen. Lily grabs a nearby towel and wraps it over the wound, applying great pressure on it.

DEREK
(weakly)
My daughter… Bedroom…

TSSSK!!!

The building’s power comes back on. Lily can see the pool of blood much more clearly.

Derek tries lifting his hand.

LILY
Don’t move.

FATHER
(weakly)
Bedroom…

LILY
Okay.

Lily hears the sound of doors open.

POLICE OFFICER (O.S.)
Police!

LILY
In here!

Two uniformed officers come into the flat. They see Lily crouching over the father.

LILY (CONT’D)
I’m Detective Lily. Put pressure on this please. Are paramedics coming?

The officer recognises her name.

POLICE OFFICER
Yes they’re coming up now.

The officer kneels down next to Lily and holds the towel.

The second officer is standing in the doorway.

POLICE OFFICER 2
We’re in flat 208, one wounded male…

Lily stands up. The officer looks up at her.

POLICE OFFICER
Where are you going?

LILY
To check the bedrooms.

Lily walks off. She passes the first bedroom. The lights are off.

LILY (CONT’D)
(softly)
Hello? Is anyone in here?

She looks at the other bedroom door. It’s closed. She slowly opens it. The lights are on.

Lily slowly walks in. It’s clearly a child’s room.

LILY (CONT’D)
(softly)
Chloe, you’re safe. I’m the police. Your dad’s going to be okay. Are you here?

Lily looks around. She hears a shuffling from under the bed.

She crouches down slowly and her eyes meet Chloe’s. Lily smiles.

LILY (CONT’D)
(softly)
Hey. You’re okay. Do you remember me?

Chloe nods. Lily reaches out her hand.

LILY (CONT’D)
(softly)
You can come out, it’s okay.

Chloe nods and slowly crawls out. The girl stands up. Lily stays kneeling.

LILY (CONT’D)
Your dad’s being helped by doctors, so I’m going to take you outside. Can I lift you up?

CHLOE
(shaking)
Yes.

Lily picks the girl up in her arms.

LILY
Can you close your eyes for me and hold your breath as hard as you can?

CHLOE
(scared)
Okay.

Lily still holds her hand over the Chloe’s eyes and walks out of the girl’s bedroom.

She quickly walks past Derek who sees her. Lily looks at the father and nods. She turns to the door when something on the counter catches her eye:

A letter with a Cedres Labs logo.

Lily walks out of the flat.

EXT. LILY’S BUILDING / ENTRANCE — NIGHT

There are multiple ambulances and police cars parked outside the building.

Residents stand around waiting, wondering what happened.

Lily stands by one of the uniformed officers from before. They are being questioned by another detective.

Lily zones out everything that is being said. She looks at a police car.

Chloe is sitting in the back with the door open. An uniformed officer kneels by the girl, keeping her company and making her laugh.

Lily focuses on Chloe, on her laughing.

She hears the muffled giggling of the girl from the beach.

EXT. POLICE STATION — MORNING

People walk in and out of the building entrance. Everything is as usual.

INT. POLICE STATION / DETECTIVE OFFICES — MORNING

Lily is sitting at her desk typing.

Marceau walks up to her.

MARCEAU
Hey, captain told me we’re working another case, what’s up?

Lily looks up to Marceau.

LILY
There was a shooting in my building last night. A single father got shot.

MARCEAU
(concerned)
Are you okay?

LILY
Yeah, a little bit frustrated though. The father’s in a coma right now so we can’t ask him anything. I’m also certain I saw the suspect leave his flat but I didn’t get a good look, so, currently not any leads.

Marceau sits down into a chair by Lily’s desk.

MARCEAU
You saw the suspect? How didn’t you get a good look?

LILY
There was a blackout. We found an EMP weapon in the maintenance room but haven’t heard anything else on that front.

MARCEAU
Have forensics said anything?

LILY
Yes actually. They found DNA at the scene. So far it’s the father’s, family matches, and well, me.

Lily leans back in her chair defeated. She looks up to the ceiling for a moment. She swivels her head to Marceau.

LILY (CONT’D)
D’you want to look at surveillance with me?

Marceau smiles.

MARCEAU
Sure, sounds exciting.

INT. POLICE STATION / DETECTIVE OFFICES — DAY

Lily and Marceau are both sat at their desks, both looking at security footage.

MARCEAU
I’m not seeing anything from the interior footage. No one goes in or out of the apartment until you and the victim come out of the elevator.

LILY
I’m not seeing anything from the exterior cameras either.

Lily thinks for a moment. She peers over her computer to grab Marceau’s attention.

LILY (CONT’D)
Hey do we have footage showing the balcony?

MARCEAU
(uncertain)
Probably…

Marceau types into his computer. He pulls up footage from street security cameras.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Come round, we might be able to see something here. What’s important about the balcony?

Lily stands up and walks around to Marceau’s side.

LILY
When I came into the victim’s flat his balcony door was open.

MARCEAU
And that’s suspicious?

LILY
No but I’m stumped here.

Lily moves a chair and sits next to Marceau. Marceau plays security footage. They can barely see the balcony.

The footage cuts out for a few seconds. It comes back on. There is a shadowy figure on the balcony pulling down a cable.

MARCEAU
Holy shit.

LILY
Do we have exterior footage from the roof of the building?

Marceau types away. He pulls up footage from the night. Nothing looks out of the ordinary.

He skips ahead. They see the footage cut out. Marceau keeps fast forwarding. The footage comes back on. He pauses it.

They both look at the screen carefully. Lily points to a railing on the edge of the roof.

LILY (CONT’D)
That kind of looks like a bit of rope, no? Can you duplicate it please? So we can compare the footage.

MARCEAU
Yep.

Marceau duplicates the window and rewinds one video. He places both windows side by side.

LILITH
Yeah look, it’s gone before the blackout.

Marceau points to a vent.

MARCEAU
Look, the vent cover’s on wrong after the blackout.

He points from left video to the right. Lily thinks in silence.

EXT. DINER — EVENING

Lily sits in a booth staring out the windows of the diner. The table already has a few empty glasses pushed off to the side.

Marceau walks up to the booth with new drinks in each hand. He places them down and sits in the booth.

Lily takes a sip of her drink.

MARCEAU
Did they release the pooper?

LILY
(stunned)
What?

MARCEAU
The man you caught on the toilet during a pursuit.

LILY
(relieved)
Oh. I don’t know actually. I talked to Esteban today, he told me they found some DNA which matches with the detainee but no other DNA at the scene somehow.

MARCEAU
(joking)
Maybe the suspects were twins.

Lily smiles.

LILY
Could be, you never know. The detainee is still refusing to say anything though. I guess we’ll see.

A waitress comes by and drops off two burgers.

MARCEAU
Thank you.

The waitress walks off and Lily quickly tucks into her meal. Marceau picks up his burger.

I/E. LILY’S CAR / STREETS / LILY’S BUILDING — NIGHT

Lily drives home. She’s lost in thought. The streetlights pulse as they pass over her.

She drives into her building’s garage.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / CORRIDOR / LILY’S FLAT — NIGHT

Lily walks out of the elevator. She looks at Derek’s door and keeps walking to her flat. She goes inside.

Lily walks in, taking off her jacket and taking out her keys and phone. She walks over to the sofa and picks up the remote.

She has a view of the city out of her window.

Lily switches the television on, using it as background noise while she grabs more leftovers out of the fridge. She puts them into the microwave and leans against the kitchen counter.

Lily stares at the timer. She looks down at her arm, the bruising still looks bad. She touches it gently but it still hurts. She winces.

Lily gently runs her finger over the bruises.

I/E. LILY’S MEMORIES

Everything is hazy. She’s lying in a bed next to someone. They are both under the covers.

White light shines through the bedsheets. This person is running their finger over her arm, but it’s no longer bruised.

She follows their finger, watching as it glides over her skin. She looks up to look at the persons face. It’s blurry.

She tries to focus but the memory dissipates and…

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / LILY’S FLAT — MORNING

Ring!!!! Ring!!!!

Lily sits up. She is on her sofa. Her empty plate and cutlery is still on her coffee table. The television is still on, the audio humming quietly.

Ring!!!! Ring!!!!

She searches for her phone. It’s in her pocket. She stands up and pulls it out. She answers.

LILY
(croaky)
Hello?

She coughs to clear her throat.

LILY (CONT’D)
Hello?.. Okay, yeah I’m on my way.

INT. HOSPITAL / DEREK’S ROOM — DAY

Lily is walking down a corridor. Marceau is leaning against the wall looking at something on his phone. There are two uniformed officers waiting on the other side of the corridor.

As Lily nears, he hears her footsteps and looks up.

He stands up.

MARCEAU
(jokingly)
Hey, sorry for waking you.

LILY
It’s fine. Have you spoken to him yet?

MARCEAU
Only introduced myself, I thought it would be better for you to lead here. You ready to go in now?

LILY
Yeah.

Marceau opens the door to the room, letting Lily in first.

Derek is sat upright in his bed. His eyes light up slightly when he sees Lily.

There’s a seat next to the bed and another against the wall of the room. Light shines through the window.

Lily sits down in the seat closest to the bed, her back facing the window. Marceau brings the other seat closer.

LILY (CONT’D)
How are you?

DEREK
I could be worse.

Derek hesitates.

DEREK (CONT’D)
Thank you for saving me and making sure my daughter was safe.

Lily nods.

LILY
Have you seen her yet?

DEREK
Yes, she’s staying with my sister. They just left.

LILY
We just want to know if you remember anything from the night. If you got a look at the person?

Derek scratches his cheek.

DEREK
Uhm, well we came in. Chloe and I started putting away the food when the lights went out.

Marceau is writing in his notepad.

DEREK (CONT’D)
I saw a someone on the balcony. I wasn’t sure though. I told Chloe to hide in her room and not to come out. As they started opening the door I pretended I didn’t notice them while I moved over to try and grab a knife. I, I don’t really remember how it happened, they came right up to me but I couldn’t see their face, I think it they were wearing a mask, and then I heard a bang and I fell to the ground.

LILY
Did you see them leave through your front door?

DEREK
No, I thought they might still be in the flat, I was worried that Chloe was going to be hurt. And then I saw you over me.

Lily looks over to Marceau who nods at her, indicating he’s written his notes.

MARCEAU
Is there anyone you can think of who may want to hurt you?

DEREK
Not really, uhm, I’ve pissed off a lot of people but I don’t think enough to make them want to hurt me. I’m sorry do you not think this was a burglary?

MARCEAU
Nothing was taken. From what we’ve seen so far, it doesn’t seem like a burglary.

Knock! Knock!

Marceau stands up , he leaves his notepad on his seat and heads to the door. It’s one of the uniformed officers. Marceau turns back to Lily and Derek.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
I’ll be back in a second.

Marceau shuts the door behind him.

DEREK
I wish we could’ve spent our first few meetings under different circumstances.

Lily smiles.

LILY
Yeah.

There’s a moment of silence.

LILY (CONT’D)
I’m sorry I don’t mean to pry but do you work at Cedres Labs.

DEREK
Cedres Labs? No, I used to go to them, the veteran’s programme.

LILY
With Dr El?

DEREK
Yes, have you also gone?

LILY
Yeah, that’s peculiar. You said you used to, why did you stop?

Derek sits back slightly. A pin drops in his head.

DEREK
I got into an argument with Dr El.

Lily sees Marceau’s notepad and picks it up, she starts writing in it.

LILY
What was the argument about?

DEREK
It was about stopping the program, as in not going anymore.

LILY
When was this?

DEREK
About two months ago.

Lily makes a note.

DEREK (CONT’D)
But he called me.

Lily looks up at Derek.

DEREK (CONT’D)
He called me every other week. He wouldn’t ask me to come back, he would only ask how I was so I didn’t think anything of it. But then he called last week, just over a week ago and he was insistent on me joining back to the program. I had a shitty day, I was fed up and threatened to report for harassment if he called again.

Lily writes ‘Cedres Labs clinic’ down in the notepad.

DEREK (CONT’D)
It was just an empty threat though, I wouldn’t have done anything. Do you really think he would of done anything?

Lily looks up at Derek.

LILY
I can’t picture him trying to hurt someone, get annoyed at someone sure but an attempted murder does seem a bit strange.

DEREK
I don’t want to get anyone into trouble.

LILY
It’s better to do due diligence and check any leads. I’m sure it will be fine.

DEREK
Okay, thank you. Could you excuse me? I’m going to go to the bathroom.

Derek points to a door behind Lily which she turns to see before looking back at Derek.

LILY
Yeah sure.

Derek leans forward quickly.

Bang!

Lily’s head darts to the window. Its glass shatters and crumbles onto the floor. She looks to Derek and dives at him, bringing him down to the floor, hidden behind the bed.

The door swings open. Both uniformed officers are on guard.

Marceau is by the doorframe. He sees the pair hiding behind the side of the bed.

MARCEAU
Are you both okay?

Lily nods.

DEREK
I’m okay.

LILY
Can you see anyone Marceau?

Marceau carefully peers around the corner. He looks out through the window.

The uniformed officers are calling in the incident.

EXT. HOSPITAL / STREETS — DAY

Police cars have pulled up outside the building.

INT. HOSPITAL / DEREK’S ROOM — DAY

Marceau looks across the street, scanning the roofline. He sees a masked figure picking up a bag and running off.

MARCEAU
Across the street on the rooftops!

Lily stands up. She leaves the room. Marceau starts running down the corridor to the exit.

LILY
Officers stay here and protect him.

She looks back at Derek.

UNIFORMED OFFICER 1
Yes ma’am.

She runs after Marceau.

EXT. HOSPITAL / STREETS — DAY

Lily and Marceau run out of the hospital. They hear a helicopter approaching.

They run across the street and come to an alley with a fire escape leading up.

Lily looks down the alley, she see the assassin running off further down.

LILY
Go around and try cut them off.

MARCEAU
Okay.

They nod at each other and head off.

EXT. STREETS / ALLEYS — DAY

Lily runs as quickly as she can, the assassin turns a corner.

Lily turns the corner.

The assassin runs past workers taking out broken pallets. Lily runs past the workers too.

The assassin looks back, they hold their gun up and fire at Lily.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Lily quickly ducks behind a dumpster. She looks back to the workers who luckily aren’t hurt. They run inside.

Lily peers around the dumpster. The assassin is running off.

The assassin comes to the street. Marceau runs at them but they push him down before running across the street.

They run into a residential area.

Lily catches up to the street to see Marceau getting up.

LILY
Call in some units. Try get them to block of the area.

MARCEAU
Okay, be careful.

Lily nods.

EXT. STREETS / RESIDENTIAL AREA

Lily runs down the back road. The streets are sloping down towards the coast. She sees the assassin further down a flight of stairs, coming to a t-section.

The assassin climbs over a fence, into someone’s garden.

Lily runs as quickly as she can. She jumps over the fence, able to catch up slightly as the assassin is weighed down by their large bag.

Lily watches as the assassin jumps over more fences until they come to one which is far to high to jump.

The assassin turns to a house, its back door is open and they run right in.

Lily runs into the house. The residents are screaming.

LILY
Police! Freeze!

The assassin jumps through the living room window breaking the glass over the porch. They run across the road.

Bang!

Lily climbs out the window and runs up to the road. She sees the assassin lying on the ground in front of a police car.

Another police car stops behind. Marceau gets out while the uniformed officers make reports.

Lily runs to the assassin. They’re trying to get up but they’re too weak. Lily grabs their mask and pulls it off.

The assassin looks up at her, their eyes widen and they collapse unconscious.

Marceau starts running to Lily.

Lily looks at the assassin and back at Marceau. She turns back to the assassin.

The assassin and Lily look exactly the same.

They hear a car screeching up the hill. It’s all black with tinted windows.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

A gun shoots out of the bonnet of the car.

Marceau reaches Lily and grabs her, leading her behind the police car. A bullet grazes her arm.

The uniformed officers take cover trying to fire back at the black car but they cannot outfire whatever this machine gun is.

The door of the black car opens. A masked figure steps out holding another machine gun. The car’s firing stops.

Marceau tries to peer over the trunk of the car.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The masked figure shoots their weapon. They keep firing as they walk to the assassin.

They stop for a moment only to pick up the assassin and swing them over their shoulder.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

They fire again. They slowly walk back to the black car and once they are out of the vehicles field, the car starts firing again.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Lily looks up, she sees the police helicopter approaching.

They hear the black car’s engine start. The firing stops and the car quickly turns around bolting it down the hill.

Lily doesn’t know what to think.

Marceau tries talking to her but she doesn’t hear anything. She clutches her bruised arm which drips with blood from the bullet graze.

MARCEAU
(muffled)
Are you okay? Did you get hit?

A uniformed officer rushes to them.

UNIFORMED OFFICER
(muffled) …
We need paramedics, multiple officers injured…

Lily just stares into space.

INT. POLICE STATION / CAPTAIN’S OFFICE — EVENING

Lily sits opposite the captain’s desk. The captain’s chair is empty.

She looks up at a clock hanging on the wall. It’s almost 6p.m.

She has a bandage around her upper arm. We can see the bruises.

She has an anxious look.

The door creaks open.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Lily. How’s your arm?

LILY
(calmly)
It’s fine.

Lily seems more relaxed now, leaning back into her chair.

The captain looks concerned. She sits on the edge of her desk next to Lily. Lily looks up at her.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Is everything okay?

Lily seems confused.

LILY
Why? I’m okay.

Captain McKenna looks at her for a moment.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
In my opinion, you’ve seemed a bit shaken up today. Has something happened?

Lily thinks, she smiles at the Captain.

LILY
I, uhm, I haven’t been shot in a while. I know it’s just a graze but I don’t know, it feels a bit weird.

Captain McKenna looks concerned.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
We can book you in with the precinct psychiatrist, it’s not a problem at all. You can take some days off if you’d prefer.

Lily sits up.

LILY
No, I really am okay to continue working.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Alright. You do seem better now… You can stay on the case and I want updates.

LILY
Of course, thank you.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
However, if at any point you start feeling “weird” again, then please let me know.

LILY
I will.

Captain McKenna nods. She gets off her desk and walks out of the office.

She nods at Marceau who is waiting for Lily.

Lily’s relaxed demeanour disappears.

EXT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — NIGHT

Cars pass by the building.

INT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — MARCEAU’S FLAT — NIGHT

Lily deflates on Marceau’s sofa. He opens the fridge.

MARCEAU
You want a beer?

Lily looks over to him.

LILY
Yeah sure.

Marceau pulls out two beers. He opens one and passes it to Lily. She starts drinking.

He opens his but doesn’t drink it yet.

MARCEAU
Are you okay?

Lily looks up at him.

LILY
I have no clue.

Marceau looks around awkwardly. He takes a sip of his beer.

Lily stares forward into space. She looks up at Marceau.

LILY (CONT’D)
The assassin looked exactly like me.

MARCEAU
What?

He sits down.

LILY
When I bent down, I took off their mask and they had my face. It looked exactly the same Marceau.

Lily sighs.

MARCEAU
What are you thinking?

LILY
I don’t know.

She chuckles.

LILY (CONT’D)
It sounds stupid but it could be a long lost twin. Maybe it’s a clone.

Lily takes another massive swig, finishing her bottle.

She places it on the coffee table and leans back into the sofa.

She looks up at the ceiling.

Marceau looks concerned.

MARCEAU
Lily, I don’t think there’s a clone of you out there. That wouldn’t exist, it wouldn’t be allowed.

LILY
How do you know?

Marceau seems confused.

MARCEAU
(sincerely)
Because I know.

Lily hesitates for a moment. She lowers her head to look at Marceau.

LILY
I’m scared Marceau. I feel like I can’t trust my mind… I get these incomplete memories of people who I just can’t place. They’ll be there but I just can’t see them. It all feels so hazy. I don’t know what to think… Why am I in a building right next to a veteran in the same programme that I’m in, run by this obscure clinic that I didn’t think another soul even knew about.

MARCEAU
It’s a coincidence. It happens Lily.

LILY
It doesn’t feel like a coincidence. How do I know there isn’t something else?

She hesitates.

LILY (CONT’D)
It just feels wrong. I don’t know what to think…

Marceau thinks.

MARCEAU
Look you could’ve had so much adrenaline going through you that you just, mis-saw them.

Lily looks down.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
You’re not going to like it, but maybe you should take a couple of days off. We can talk to McKenna tomorrow and you can tell her everything. I really think that would be best.

Lily looks up at him.

LILY
Okay.

There’s a moment of silence.

MARCEAU
Do you want to do anything?

Lily thinks for a second. She looks around and then back at him.

LILY
(jokingly yet sad)
Do you want to get shitfaced?

Marceau smiles. He stands up and heads to the fridge. Lily watches him.

INT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — MARCEAU’S FLAT — LATE NIGHT

Marceau is sleeping on his side on half of the sofa. His legs hang over the side.

Lily is laying down at the foot of the sofa, her back resting against it.

She weakly opens her eyes and turns to Marceau. There’s many empty bottles stacked around and some spilt bottles by Marceau.

Lily giggles at him. She ruffles his hair and walks off to the bathroom.

She switches on the light and takes a piss on the toilet. As she sits she looks around the bathroom. She looks at a digital clock on a cabinet.

It reads 3.00a.m.

She washes her hands and looks into the mirror. She has strands of hair covering her face.

Letting the tap run, she raises her wet hands and tucks her hair behind her ears. She closes her eyes…

I/E. LILY’S MEMORIES

Lily’s eyes are closed. Someone’s hand tucks her hair behind her ears. Rain is pouring down on them.

They are on a road by a bus stop sign. The road has trees on either side as far as the eye can see.

Rain smashes into the tarmac bouncing back up at them. The trees don’t do much to shelter them.

It seems like the same person from the bed.

She feels their hand brush her cheek. She slowly opens her eyes.

The face is blurry. It starts to take shape, become clearer.

Lily focuses and sees her own face. She sees the assassin in the same clothes and position as Lily found her on the road.

INT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — MARCEAU’S FLAT — LATE NIGHT

Lily pulls away from the sink. She stares at the mirror for a moment. She turns of the taps and leaves the bathroom, switching the bathroom light off on her way out.

INT. HIDEOUT / MAIN ROOM — TIME UNKNOWN

A man stands by a desk. He is on a mobile phone. It’s Dr El.

There are no windows, just a few hanging lights from the ceiling.

There are multiple door leading to offshoot rooms.

At the front of this space is another door with a glass window.

Next to it is a large glass pane looking into an operating room which is partially obscured by blinds.

At the back of the room their is a staircase leading up to a door.

DR EL
Yes I’m sorry we’ll have to cancel your appointments…

The door at the top of the staircase opens. A man is carrying down the assassin in his arms.

Dr El turns around taking notice of the man.

DR EL (CONT’D)
(kindly)
No, unfortunately I can’t go into explanations but know that you’ve been reimbursed…

The man makes it to the bottom of the stairs. Dr El raises his finger, gesturing for the man to wait.

DR EL (CONT’D)
I have to ask you not to call back on this number. Goodbye sir.

Dr El hangs up. He sits down on his desk and looks at the man. Dr El brings his hands together, dropping them into his lap.

Dr El’s demeanour changes. He seems more serious.

DR EL (CONT’D)
We seem to have hit a bit of a roadblock here Michael.

MICHAEL
Yes sir.

There’s a moment of silence.

DR EL
You’re certain Lily saw her?

Michael nods, the unconscious assassin laying in his arms.

Dr El looks down at his own hands.

MICHAEL
Yes sir… I…

Dr El brings his hands up, he rubs his forehead.

DR EL
Yes? You can say it.

MICHAEL
I think Eve saw her.

Dr El sighs. His hands still touching his forehead.

DR EL
Okay… We can work with that.

Dr El stands up. He walks to the operating room and opens the door. Michael follows him being careful not to hit Eve’s head against anything.

INT. HIDEOUT / OPERATING ROOM — UNKNOWN TIME

Dr El flicks a light switch on. A small lamp hanging from the ceiling comes on, lighting up a small area in the middle of the room.

In the centre, there’s an operating bed.

There are wires and cables hanging from the ceiling, coming out of blocky machines with more machinery stacked up around the edges of the room.

DR EL
Place her down.

Michael places Eve down. Dr El starts securing Eve with constraints.

Michael watches. He looks at Eve’s unconscious face, she has several cuts and bruises.

Michael hesitates.

MICHAEL
Will she be okay?

Dr El doesn’t look up at him. He keeps making sure the constraints are secured properly.

DR EL
She’ll be fine.

Michael looks concerned.

MICHAEL
Doesn’t she need more medical attention before the procedure?

Dr El is still securing restraints. He slightly looks up but continues restraining.

DR EL
Michael if she’s seen Lily then there will be too much going on in her mind.

Dr El gestures a “crazy signal” with his finger.

DR EL (CONT’D)
With a mind like that, she wont be much use to me.

Dr El finishes restraining her. He walks over to a raised computer and turns it on.

He walks around and grabs an EEG cap out of a drawer in the room.

MICHAEL
What are you, what are you trying to say?

Dr El puts the cap on Eve. He sighs. He turns to look at Michael.

DR EL
I’m saying that if she retains any memory of Lily, then she’ll be terminated. I’m sorry Michael, but I’m not taking risks.

Dr El pulls wires and cables down from the ceiling, plugging them into Eve’s cap.

He grab an IV drip from the corner of the room and pulls it closer to the operating table.

Marceau watches in silence.

Dr El takes the needle and injects it into Eve’s arm. He notices Michael’s silence.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. I’ll make sure everything is mapped first before any erasure. She’ll remember you.

He goes to the computer and starts something. Machines begin whirring and beeping.

Dr El looks at his watch.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Can you do the rest please?

He walks over to Eve and bends down, coming closer to her face.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Her mind will be fixed. She’ll be renewed.

INT. HIDEOUT / MAIN ROOM / OPERATING ROOM — UNKNOWN TIME

Dr El walks out of the operating room. Michael follows him.

Dr El picks up a coat and starts putting it on.

DR EL
Answer my phone if anyone calls. There might be some confused patients.

Dr El grabs some keys from the table.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Deal with any unexpected callers, however you see fit. I trust you.

MICHAEL
Yes sir.

Dr El starts heading to the staircase. His hand touches the banister. He pauses and turns back to Michael.

Michael stands stoically.

DR EL
Send someone to deal with Lily.

MICHAEL
Okay sir.

Dr El relaxes a bit.

DR EL
Looks like we’re going to have to start over on a lot of fronts. I’ll be back in a moment.

Dr El turns back and walks up the stairs, closing the door behind him.

Michael waits to hear the door close before moving. He turns back to the operating room. Half of the window is covered by blinds.

He walks into the operating room and comes closer to Eve. Her hand lays beside her.

Michael gently holds it.

EXT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — MORNING

The sun rises above the building.

INT. MARCEAU’S BUILDING — MARCEAU’S FLAT — MORNING

Lily is standing at the kitchen counter. She’s placing bullets into a magazine.

She placing the magazine into a gun and ensures the safety is on.

Marceau starts stirring. Light is coming in through the windows. He opens his eyes and sees Lily.

He lifts himself up.

MARCEAU
Hey. What are you doing?

Lily looks over to him. She places the gun into her holster.

LILY
I’m going to work the case.

Marceau looks more concerned. He gets up properly.

MARCEAU
Lily what? You agreed you’d take some time off work. Just rest for a couple of days, please.

Lily grabs her phone and keys off the counter and starts walking to the door.

Marceau follows her to the door.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Lily, I’m serious you should stay.

He rushes up to her.

Lily tries opening the door. Marceau outstretches his arm and holds it shut.

Lily looks up at him annoyed.

LILY
Let me out.

Marceau looks at her silently.

MARCEAU
What happens if you’re in a situation today where you need to be ready but you’re just not there?

LILY
That’s not going to happen.

MARCEAU
It might. You said it yourself that you’re confused. Just stay here, or go to yours but just rest.

LILY
(sternly)
And do what? I don’t want to sit around thinking about everything until it all blends into mush and my brain is fried.

Marceau looks at her.

LILY (CONT’D)
I’m not staying. Do you want to come with me? Cause either you come with me or stay. But I’m leaving.

Marceau keeps looking at Lily. He looks away. He rubs his eyebrow.

EXT. CEDRES CLINIC / STREETS / MARCEAU’S CAR — DAY

The clinic is closed.

There is a fire truck, with firefighter packing away equipment.

Police cars are parked throughout the parking lot with a forensics van close to the entrance.

The whole area is taped off. There’s a small crowd of people. Local residents, passers-by, etc.

Marceau drives into the clinic’s car park. An officer stops the car to let them in.

Marceau parks. He and Lily both get out and start walking to the entrance.

There’s a uniformed officer talking to someone: the receptionist. She’s still on her phone.

RECEPTIONIST
I work here, why won’t you tell me what’s going on.

The uniformed officer just looks at her.

UNIFORMED OFFICER
Ma’am this is now a restricted area, you need to leave.

The receptionist brings her phone to her ear properly.

RECEPTIONIST
Oh my god Sheila, they won’t let me work…

Lily and Marceau walk past, showing their badges to the officer as they come to the tape. The officer nods at them.

RECEPTIONIST (CONT’D)
(whiny)
Do you think I’ll still get paid?

Lily and Marceau walk into the clinic.

INT. CEDRES CLINIC / RECEPTION / CORRIDOR — DAY

The clinic looks burnt. The furniture has all been torn out. The walls are black. The floor is scattered in ash and the occasional pieces of scrap paper.

There are forensic workers dressed in full protective clothing, marking evidence with tags.

There’s an officer talking to a forensic worker in front of the entrance.

MARCEAU
Officer Reynolds.

The officer turns around, the forensic worker walks off.

OFFICER REYNOLDS
Detectives.

Officer Reynolds leads Lily and Marceau walk down the corridor.

OFFICER REYNOLDS (CONT’D)
Some resident coming home from a night shift or something called the fire in. Firefighters finished up here about an hour ago.

LILY
Are the security systems intact?

OFFICER REYNOLDS
No. The mains had a device on it uhm, one of the officers told me I forgot.

MARCEAU
EMP?

OFFICER REYNOLDS
Sounds about right.

All the doors to the patient rooms are open. Lily looks in as they walk past.

There is still some furniture around. Chairs and cabinets knocked over, cables lying about and broken chunks of drywall. All scorched.

They walk down the corridor, coming to a stop at Dr El’s private office.

The door is already open with two forensic workers still placing down evidence markers.

INT. CEDRES CLINIC / DR EL’S OFFICE — DAY

Lily and Marceau walk into the room. There are empty files and folders scattered everywhere. However, the office is hardly scorched.

OFFICER REYNOLDS
I don’t know what happened here. Personally, I think whoever did this came in and out through that window.

Officer Reynolds points to a window which looks out to a brick alley.

Both detective looks at Reynolds.

OFFICER REYNOLDS (CONT’D)
I don’t want to cloud your guy’s judgements though.

The landline telephone has been ripped out from the table and smashes on the floor.

Lily and Marceau both walk around.

Lily comes to a metal bin in the corner of the room with an evidence marker next to it. There’s charred papers inside but not everything is completely burnt.

Lily puts on a plastic glove and reaches down into the bin. Some papers are still legible.

She pulls out a chunk of half-melted plastic, it’s a rolodex.

She flips through the papers, somehow there are still legible cards. Lily comes across one which catches her eye.

LILY
Marceau.

Marceau looks up and walks over.

She pulls out her phone and takes a photograph of the card. It reads, ‘Star Mechanics’, with a number scrawled underneath.

UNKNOWN VOICE (O.S.)
Yeah we did business with him…

I/E. STREETS / MANDY STAR MECHANICS / MANDY’S OFFICE — DAY

Lily and Marceau are led by the owner (Mandy) past the open garages. There are cars on lifts and mechanics working away.

The owner is carrying a box of tools.

Lily and Marceau follow behind her. Marceau writes in his notepad to any information he deems important.

LILY
And when was this?

MANDY
God, he’s had work done multiple times over the past two years. Give me a second, I’ve got files around in my office.

Mandy walks up to a worker and drops of the box of tools.

She starts leading the detectives to her office at the end of the garage.

They walk into the office. Mandy walks over to a cabinet behind her desk and starts searching through files.

MARCEAU
When was the last time you were in contact with the doctor?

Mandy is still flipping through the files.

MANDY
A month ago maybe? He picked up a car. He had us take out the engine, everything else, put it all in the back and then make a trunk in the front —

Mandy pulls out a file with ‘El’ written on it.

MANDY (CONT’D)
Here we go.

She hands it to Marceau.

Marceau flips through the file briefly, looking at the many cars that Dr El has had work done on.

LILY
Was that car black?

MANDY
Yes. He had all of them painted black.

LILY
Why?

Mandy sits behind her desk. The two detectives stand.

Marceau passes the file to Lily.

MANDY
He brought in a lot of cars, different makes, different models and colours. Hardly any were the same. My guess is as good as yours.

MARCEAU
Did you not find that suspicious?

MANDY
Well yeah, but he had money and always paid by card, and the business needed the money. I just kind of assumed he’d bought the cars for cheap, broken down and second hand because some of them would be in pretty bad shape when he brought them in. Anyways I still feel like he’d pay by cash if there was something dodgy going on. Is that what this is about?

Lily is looking out the office windows to the garage. The file still open in her hands but ignored.

She sees a worker carrying a stack of crates, too heavy for them.

Marceau notices Lily’s distracted. He turns to Mandy who’s waiting for an answer.

MARCEAU
We’re just trying to find out more information. I’m sure everything is fine.

CRASH!!!

Marceau and Mandy both turn to look out the office window.

The worker has dropped the crates on the floor.

WORKER (O.S.)
Boss!

MANDY
I’m sorry could you excuse me?

Mandy gets up.

MARCEAU
Yeah absolutely.

Lily is still distracted. She’s looking at the worker now on their knees picking up items from the smashes crates.

Mandy walks to the door.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Sorry Mandy, do you have his number still?

Mandy turns back, her hand on the doorframe.

MANDY
Yeah it’s in the file.

MARCEAU
Could we use your phone?

MANDY
Yeah go for it.

Mandy walks out to help her worker.

Marceau looks at Lily. Lily is still looking at the worker. Mandy walks up to them.

I/E. LILY’S MEMORIES

Lily looks at the worker.

They’ve morphed into the person from her memories but the face is still blurry, preventing her from seeing distinguishable features.

The person from her memories stands up, “Mandy” standing in front of them slightly.

Lily tries to look around “Mandy”, trying to make the person’s face clear.

MARCEAU (O.S.)
Lily are you okay?

INT. MANDY STAR MECHANICS / MANDY’S OFFICE — DAY

Lily turns her head to Marceau.

LILY
What? Yeah, here.

She hands over the file and sits down in a chair by the desk.

Marceau sits in the chair next to her and grabs the phone. He looks at the number on the file and dials the number.

INT. HIDEOUT / MAIN ROOM / OPERATING ROOM — DAY

RING!!!! RING!!!!

Dr El’s phone buzzes on his desk.

The door to the operating room is open but all the blinds are drawn.

There is a faint glow coming from behind the curtains, accompanied by the whirring and beeping of machines.

By the door, a shadow sits on the floor.

RING!!!! RING!!!!

The shadow stands up and walks out of the operating room. It’s Michael.

He comes to the desk.

RING!!!! RING!!!!

The number is written out on the phone, not an unknown number yet still no name.

Michael grabs the phone and answers it.

MICHAEL
Hello?

We can hardly see him. The faint glow from the operating room doesn’t reach so far.

INT. MANDY STAR MECHANICS / MANDY’S OFFICE — DAY

MARCEAU
Hello this is Jacob from Mandy Star Mechanics. We’re having a discount deal for previous customers and you’re on our list. Is this a Dr El I’m speaking to?

Lily looks at Marceau. She tries to regain some composure.

INT. HIDEOUT / MAIN ROOM — DAY

Michael pauses for a moment. He thinks. The phone is close to his face, he has a strong grip on it.

MARCEAU (THROUGH PHONE)
Hello? Dr El?

MICHAEL
(stern)
You have the wrong number. Goodbye.

Michael hangs up.

INT. MANDY STAR MECHANICS / MANDY’S OFFICE — DAY

MARCEAU
Hello?

Marceau pulls the phone away from his face and places it back on Mandy’s desk.

Lily is looking at him.

LILY
Did they say anything?

Marceau turns to Lily.

MARCEAU
They just said I had the wrong number.

LILY
He may have changed his number.

MARCEAU
Maybe, I don’t know.

Lily has a downcast expression. She turns away.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Seriously Lily, are you okay?

She looks at him.

LILY
I don’t know.

Marceau looks at her in a concerned manner.

LILY (CONT’D)
Don’t look at me like that. I’ll be fine.

MARCEAU
Alright, we can look over the files at my place.

LILY
Okay, sounds good.

Marceau starts packing up the files.

Lily gets up and looks out the office window. The worker and Mandy are no longer there.

INT. HIDEOUT / MAIN ROOM / OPERATING ROOM — DAY

Michael stares at the phone in his hand.

BEEP. BEEP.

The faint beeping from the operating room can still be heard.

BEEP. BEEP.

Michael puts down the phone and walks back into the operating room.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

The beeping starts to get quicker. Michael’s eyes widen.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Michael runs around to the computer. He looks at the screens displaying Eve’s heartrate. It’s dangerously high.

He opens a drawer and rummages through some files. He looks at Eve, she isn’t moving.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

He grabs a syringe and quickly pulls the cap off. He holds her arm and quickly but carefully injects the syringe.

The liquid empties into her. The beeping slows back to normal.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Michael turns back to the computer doing the brain mapping. An error has popped up. He quickly snaps back to Eve.

Michael watches as Eve twitches slightly. He comes closer and holds her hand.

Eve’s eyes slowly open. She looks at Michael and smiles.

MICHAEL
You’re okay.

She squeezes his hand.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)
I love you.

Eve’s eyes get heavy and she falls unconscious again. Her hand relaxes.

Michael turns back to the screen. He comes closer and overrides the error and continues the mapping.

I/E. MARCEAU’S CAR / STREETS — EVENING

Lily looks up from her lap. She watches the streetlights as the pass.

People and cars passing by her window.

Music plays but it’s not too loud to block the ambience of the street out.

Marceau drives. He changes gear effortlessly and Lily watches as he does.

She watches his hand move over the gearshift.

I/E. LILY’S MEMORIES

The air feels warmer.

Everything looks more hazy.

The music gets louder and Lily slowly hears less and less of the street ambience until it disappears completely.

Suddenly, evening feels more like noon as light floods the car.

Lily looks at the driver’s hand. She looks up their arm to their blurry face. It’s the same person from her previous memories.

LILY
Why can’t I see you?

Lily thinks. She lets the light embrace her.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / ELEVATOR / CORRIDOR — EVENING

The elevator doors open. Lily and Marceau walk out.

Lily looks at Derek’s door as they pass.

They walk down to her door and she unlocks it.

MARCEAU
Do you need any help?

Lily seems a bit calmer.

LILY
No I’ll only be a second…

INT. LILY’S FLAT — EVENING

LILY
I’ll just grab a bagful.

The front door opens. Lily walks inside. The door naturally starts closing on its own.

She walks in and heads to her bedroom. She bends down and grabs a bag which is crumpled on the floor.

INT. LILY’S BUILDING / CORRIDOR — EVENING

Marceau is waiting in the corridor. He’s on his phone. The door is still slowly closing.

He looks up and notices it’s about to slam shut. He reaches forward but…

BANG!

It slams in his face.

INT. LILY’S FLAT / CORRIDOR — EVENING

Lily turns her head to the sound and turns back. She knows it’s the door.

She stuffs some clothes into the bag and walks into her bathroom.

We see a hand pass over the door and slowly twist the lock. It goes up and quietly shuts the deadlock.

Lily grabs her toothbrush from a glass, some other products from her sink and shoves them into her bag.

Something catches her eye.

She looks up at the mirror. She sees a shadow through the reflection of a reflection. Someone is waiting outside the bathroom.

Lily doesn’t have her gun and she knows this. She calmly zips up her bag and grabs her empty toothbrush glass.

She slowly walks out of the bathroom and as she’s about to reach the living room, she swings the glass around the corner, smashing it into someone.

SMASH!

Marceau looks up.

MARCEAU
Lily! Are you okay?

He walks up to the door and tries to open it. He can’t.

The intruder stammers backwards into the kitchen.

They have chunks of glass sticking out of their balaclava. Blood starts oozing out, tainting the glass.

They drop a crow bar onto the kitchen tiles, cracking them.

Lily drops her bag and comes forward kicking the intruder in the leg.

The intruder stammers backwards into the wall, trying to hold onto the kitchen counter for support.

Lily tries to punch them in the head with her right hand but the intruder grabs her wrist before she can strike the blow.

Catching Lily off-guard, the intruder gains their footing and with their free hand, punches Lily in the head.

Lily falls onto the floor.

Marceau stands across the corridor from Lily’s door and runs at it.

BANG!

The deadbolt shakes but doesn’t break.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Lily!!!

The intruder stands up straight and pulls a chunk of glass out of their cheekbone. A gush of blood splats on the kitchen floor.

The intruder looks at Lily and sees the crowbar next to her on the floor. They start coming forward.

Lily sees where the intruder is looking. She sweeps the crowbar backwards, sending it flying into the living room.

The intruder comes closer as if they’re about to pounce on Lily.

Lily turns onto her stomach trying to get on all fours and get up.

BANG!

The intruder grabs her leg.

Lily kicks the intruder as hard as she can. They fall, catching themselves with their hands.

Lily looks back. The intruder is holding their face. More blood spills from their hand.

Lily rushes forward into the living room and bends down. She grabs the crowbar.

BANG!

The intruder grabs her by the neck and pulls her onto her back. The intruder starts choking her.

BANG!

Lily swings the crowbar, trying the hit the intruder but she keeps missing.

Finally she strikes their leg.

The intruder grabs the crowbar and pulls it quickly. She loosens her grip and the intruder pulls it out of her hand.

They toss her to the side. She gasps for air. She looks up at the door which thumps as Marceau tries to get in.

BANG!

The intruder gathers their composure. They grip the crowbar and walk up to Lily.

They kick Lily over onto her back.

LILY
AHHHHHH!

She collapses on the ground.

They climb on her, kneeling over her.

BANG!

The intruder accidentally kneels on Lily’s bruised arm.

LILY (CONT’D)
AHHHHH!

They take notice of her bruises. They swap the crowbar into their other hand and grab Lily’s bruised arm, pushing into it as hard as they can.

LILY (CONT’D)
AHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHH!

Her arm feels like it’s going to break.

BANG!

Lily turns her head to her right. Marceau is still trying to break the door down. Tears are swelling at her eyes.

She tries to hit the intruder in the head with her free arm. The intruder keeps swatting her arm away.

She tries again to hit the intruder, grabbing their balaclava, and she swiftly pulls it off.

The intruder lets out a silent scream as shard of glass are pulled out from their skin and fall onto Lily.

BANG!

Lily looks up in horror, blood pouring down on her face, as her eyes meet the eyes of Derek.

She sees a scar down his neck, his voice box has been removed.

Derek pushes into her bruised arm again.

LILY (CONT’D)
AHHHHHH!

Derek raises the crowbar intending to smash it down in Lily’s face.

Lily can’t do anything. She tries to claw at his but he doesn’t stop.

BANG!

Everything goes silent for Lily.

Derek starts swinging the crowbar down.

BANG!!!!

A bullet flies through Derek’s neck. A plume of blood squirts out as the bullet exit’s his neck.

Derek is pushed off Lily with the force. He falls onto the ground next to Lily.

Lily turns her head and looks at Derek’s lifeless face. Blood still streams out of his cheeks.

Lily turns around and sees Marceau holding a gun, standing in the hallway.

Lily starts to hear again.

MARCEAU
Lily!

Marceau runs to her. He kneels down.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Are you okay? Are you bleeding?

He helps Lily sit up against the wall. He checks her up and down looking for bleeding.

LILY
(weakly)
It’s Derek.

Marceau looks at her but she is looking at Derek’s lifeless eyes.

MARCEAU
What?

LILY
(with more strength)
It’s Derek.

Marceau turns to look at Derek.

MARCEAU
Oh god.

Marceau closes his eyes and turns back to Lily. She can’t help but stare at Derek.

Marceau gently turns her head to face him.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
You’re safe.

Lily nods slightly. He pulls her closer and embraces her tightly.

Lily has a blank expression. She doesn’t know what to think. She hugs Marceau back tightly. She stares at Derek’s body again.

She takes a deep breath and pulls back. Marceau holds her by the arms.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Are you bleeding anywhere?

Lily weakly shakes her head.

LILY
I don’t think so.

MARCEAU
(softly)
Good.

BEEP. BEEP.

They both stop. The noise is coming from Derek.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Its pace is steady. The beeping continues.

Marceau slowly moves over Derek and searches his pockets. Marceau pulls out a wallet and car keys.

Lily notices a red light coming from Derek’s left forearm.

LILY
Look.

She points to it.

The beeping slowly starts getting faster.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Marceau holds Derek’s arm and pulls down his sleeve. There doesn’t seem to be any wrist watch. He twists the forearm around.

The beeping is getting faster.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Both Lily and Marceau look at the quickly flashing red light coming from under Derek’s skin.

MARCEAU
Go! Go! Go!

They both stand up and run to the open door.

Lily sees the frame is splintered as she runs out.

BOOOOOOM!!!!!

Marceau jumps at Lily, pushed by the blast wave, and pushing her to the ground. He covers her as best as he can.

The fire alarm goes off. They both look back at the flat through the doorway.

The glass doors from Lily’s balcony have shattered. Parts of the ceiling have crumbled down onto the floor.

The explosion was relatively contained, enough to blow up the corpse.

Lily stares into her flat and its painted red walls.

EXT. LILY’S BUILDING / STREETS — NIGHT

Outside Lily’s building there is a single fire truck and an ambulance.

Two police cars are parked out front with flashing sirens.

Residents wait outside in the cold unsure of what to do.

A car pulls up next to the police cars and parks. Captain McKenna comes out of it.

She walks up to the ambulance where Lily is sitting on the back with the doors open.

A paramedic is wrapping Lily’s bruised arm up in bandages. She has some slight bleeding.

Marceau is leaning against the ambulance back doors next to Lily.

He notices Captain McKenna and stands up.

Lily looks up. The paramedic walks off.

LILY
Thank you.

Lily starts getting up.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Don’t worry, you don’t need to get up.

Lily sits back down.

LILY
Thanks.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
How are both of you?

Marceau nods.

MARCEAU
I’m fine.

LILY
Me too.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Good… I contacted the hospital. Derek White is still there and has been for the whole day.

Lily is confused.

LILY
What?

She looks at Marceau.

MARCEAU
Don’t worry I called her.

Lily looks back at Captain McKenna.

LILY
He’s really there?

Captain McKenna nods. Lily seems relieved.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Is there something you haven’t told me about this case?

She looks at Lily and Marceau. Marceau is nervous and looks at Lily.

Lily sees him and thinks.

LILY
The assassin also looked like someone we know it couldn’t be.

Captain McKenna is confused.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Okay? So what does that mean?

Captain McKenna looks to Marceau but he doesn’t seem clear on it either.

LILY
I don’t know what it means. What I do know is that the intruder had car keys and a wallet. We’ve given the keys to officers and they are currently searching for the vehicle in the area now. I am certain that we will find Dr El.

Captain McKenna waits for a moment.

CAPTAIN MCKENNA
Okay. Once you locate him, I want swat going in. Update me regularly.

LILY
Yes captain.

Marceau nods. Captain McKenna turns around and walks back to her car.

Marceau’s phone starts ringing. He picks up.

MARCEAU (THROUGH PHONE)
Yeah?.. Okay good, we’re on our way.

Marceau hangs up and turns to Lily.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
We just found our car.

EXT. STREETS / INTRUDER’S CAR — NIGHT

Lily and Marceau walk up to a generic car.

There are uniformed officers standing around and a parked police car alongside the parked cars on the street.

Lily is holding something in her hand: a GPS scanner.

The doors to the car are open. A uniformed officer is rummaging for something in the back.

Another officer stands by the open driver door. Lily walks up to them.

LILY
Got the keys?

The officer hands over the keys.

Lily swiftly sits inside and puts the key in. She switches on the ignition and drops the scanner into her lap.

A screen on the dashboard comes up. Marceau watches as Lily taps through the settings to go to the car’s favourited locations. There is nothing saved.

She reaches under the steering wheel and grabs hold of something. She yanks as hard as she can, breaking loose the underside panelling.

She passes the panel to Marceau who promptly chucks it into the back of the car accidentally hitting the uniformed officer in the back. They shoot him a glare.

Lily plugs the scanner in and waits. Data flows in showing all the places that have been inputted into the GPS.

One address keeps showing up again and again.

EXT. STREETS / SUBURBAN DETACHED HOUSE — NIGHT

The streets are empty. There’s a faint ambience of the city in the distance.

INT. SUBURBAN DETACHED HOUSE / CORRIDOR / BEDROOM — NIGHT

Someone walks down a dark corridor. They stop at an open bedroom door. They walk in.

It’s Michael. He looks across the room. On one side there is a window with translucent curtains drawn; you can see faint lights from neighbouring houses.

On the other side of the room are a pair of sliding doors. Michael walks up to them and grabs the knobs. He tries to open the door but it won’t budge.

He kneels down and takes off a backpack he’s wearing. He opens it and takes out a lockpick.

Michael quickly unlocks the door and carefully walks in, bag in hand.

In this adjoining room, there are three desks and a swivel chair at one.

On each desk there are various trinkets and devices, all being worked on and lit by small lamps.

One desk blocks a door which clearly leads back out to the corridor.

There are countless marionettes hung up on the walls. All staring at Michael. He looks back at them.

Michael walks up to this desk and picks up the device. He seems to know what it is.

He turns it over and notices a loose wire. He brings it over to the next desk. He can see through the translucent curtains of another window which overlooks the street.

Michael rests his bag against the leg of the desk and grabs a piece from a clump of switches and metal on the desk.

He carefully inserts it into the device he holds.

He pulls the chair to him and sits down. He swipes the desk clear and rolls up the sleeve of his left arm.

Michael steadily holds his arm under the white light of the small lamp. He holds the device in his right hand.

CLICK.

Michael watches as a red light in his forearm starts blinking at an increasingly rate.

CLICK.

Michael press another button. The light stops flashings and transform to green before disappearing.

Michael picks up his bag and stands up. He rests the bag on the desk and carefully places the device inside.

He slowly pulls out a hammer.

EXT. STREETS / SUBURBAN DETACHED HOUSE — NIGHT

A car pulls into the driveway of the house. It’s headlights beam against a garage door which now slowly opens, letting the car inside.

INT. SUBURBAN DETACHED HOUSE / BEDROOM / GROUND FLOOR / GARDEN — NIGHT

SLAM.

A door closes.

Michael looks up toward the open bedroom door.

DR EL (O.S.)
(calling out to)
Michael!?

Michael grabs the knobs of the sliding doors, slowly bringing them to a close and being careful not to make any noise.

We see rubble and devices smashed on the floor, as well as, shattered marionettes laid across the floor as Michael closes the sliding doors.

Dr El walks into the kitchen and opens the fridge. He pulls out a carton of juice and walks over to a counter.

DR EL (CONT’D)
(calling out to)
Michael!
(to himself)
Where is this kid?

Michael looks at the open bedroom door. He turns to the window across the room.

Thud.

Dr El looks up. He’s standing in the kitchen with a glass of juice in hand.

Dr El slowly walks to the foot of the stair case and walks up.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Hello?

Dr El walks down the corridor and into the bedroom. He sees the closed sliding doors and walks over to them.

With his free hand he tries to open them. They won’t budge. He turns to the window. It’s slightly open.

Dr El thinks. He walks to the window and places his glass down on the nearby bedside table.

He moves through the curtains and closes the window.

Michael watches him close the window. Michael is hidden in a bush at the back of the house’s garden.

Dr El’s shadow turns away from the window. Michael relaxes. He hears rustling.

Suddenly, officers in full SWAT gear start surrounding the building, coming into the garden through the side gate.

The SWAT officers come to the back door and get ready for breach.

Michael watches in horror. Eve is still inside.

I/E. SUBURBAN DETACHED HOUSE / GROUND FLOOR / HIDEOUT / OPERATING ROOM — NIGHT

SWAT officers wait outside the front door. Lily and Marceau are also dressed up in gear.

Marceau has his hand on his radio.

MARCEAU
(whispering)
3… 2… 1… Breach! Breach! Breach!

The SWAT officers smash down the doors with battering rams and storm into the house.

SWAT OFFICER
Get down! Get down! Armed police!

Dr El is standing at the bottom of the stairs with his glass of juice as an officer tackles him to the floor.

DR EL
AHHHH!

The glass shatters and pierces his hand and side.

Marceau and Lily come in last. She watches as officers split off, going upstairs and into different rooms.

SWAT OFFICER 2 (O.S.)
Basement here!

Marceau and Lily go over to the basement. She looks back as an officer leads Dr El out of the door.

SWAT OFFICER
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to an attorney…

Dr El is led out of the front door.

She walks down into the basement.

SWAT OFFICER 2
Clear!

Officers break down the man basement doors. Marceau points to the operating room. The door is closed and the blinds drawn.

Lily follows him to the door.

Marceau holds his gun firmly and kicks the door in.

MARCEAU
What the fuck.

Lily comes in after him. She lowers her gun.

Eve is hooked up to countless wires and cables. There are many tubes injected into her. There is an oxygen mask over her face.

Lily walks up to Eve and holsters her gun. Marceau follows but keeps his gun out.

Lily slowly lifts up the mask. She stares at Eve’s face. Aside from some cuts and bruising, it’s the same as hers.

Marceau watches in awe. Lily slowly places the mask back down. She turns around.

LILY
Get the paramedics.

Lily walks out of the operating room with a blank expression.

Marceau passes her and rushes up the stairs.

She sees a desk with a computer on it. She pulls out the chair from under the desk and sits down.

The computer is already on. She clicks a minimized tab. It opens up as a patient data server.

She see’s a search bar and recent history. In the recent history there’s a line reading: ‘Personal clo…’

Lily clicks on the search bar. She thinks for a moment before typing in: ‘Derek White’.

The computer loads for a few seconds. A patient portfolio comes up.

Lily reads diligently: ‘veteran programme’, ‘divorced’, ‘father of 3y/o’, ‘DNA donor’.

She scrolls down. There a list starting with ‘DWC_01’, then ‘DWC_02’, then ‘DWC_03 — DECEASED’.

Lily clicks on the ‘DWC_03’ tab. It expands. She reads ‘Clone_03… Body Exploded…’

Lily goes back to the search bar. She types in: ‘Lily Diaz’.

The computer comes up with a patient portfolio. There’s a photo and it looks like her. She clicks on it.

‘DECEASED.’

Lily’s eyes scan the page erratically: ‘Donor replaced.’

She see’s a list when she scrolls down. Unlike Derek’s list, there are only two: ‘LDC_01 (REPLACEMENT DONOR)’, & ‘LDC_02 (EVE).

She clicks on ‘EVE’. There is a status bar which reads ‘UNDERGOING PROCEDURE’. Lily looks up. Through a crack in the blinds she see’s Eve hooked up on the operating table.

She looks back at the first clone on the list. The tab expands and she reads ‘Exact replica.’

She looks at the status bar which reads: ‘metal poisoning from bomb implant.’

Lily looks down at her arm. She quickly looks back up. She scrolls down. The banner at the top of the page constantly reading: ‘LisaDiazClone_01’.

She keeps scrolling down and sees:

‘Bomb Implant: Activated’

She presses ‘Activated’ and it switches to ‘Deactivated’.

She quickly rolls up her sleeve revealing all her bruises. With her fingers she presses hard onto her skin.

The pain is unbearable. She bares her teeth. She keeps pushing into her forearm aiming to find the implant.

Lily stops. She grabs her flashlight and slides it between her teeth.

She pulls a knife from her belt and hovers it over her skin. She cuts a line down her forearm and then across her forearm, creating a cross wound.

Blood seeps out onto her arm and then onto the desk. She drops the knife on the desk and reaches into her arm with her fingers.

She digs around, aiming to find the implant. She bites as hard as she can on the flashlight.

Her eyes relax. She pulls out a small, metal, bead-like device, and sets it down on the desk.

Marceau comes down the stairs following two paramedics. They reach the bottom of the stairs.

MARCEAU
It’s through that door there.

Marceau points to the operating room. The paramedics look back at him and walk off to the operating room.

Marceau walks up to Lily. He sees her arm bleeding.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Lily!

He comes down and puts pressure on the wound. Lily is staring at the computer screen. He knocks on the operating room windows.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
I need help!

He turns to Lily, holding pressure on the wound.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
What happened?

He watches her face. Her blank expression fading as tears begin to form at her eyes.

He looks to the screen and reads it. He sees where it says clone and bomb implant.

Marceau looks down at the bloody wound he’s putting pressure on. He looks up at Lily.

Lily looks at him with a look of despair. She starts crying.

Marceau looks distraught. He leaves one hand applying pressure on her arm and then he grabs her with his other arm, bringing her in for a hug. He holds her tight.

Lily bawls, tears swelling and falling into Marceau’s shoulder. She hugs him back with her free arm.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
Paramedics please!

Lily still cries. She doesn’t stop.

I/E. STREETS / SWAT CONVOY / SWAT TRUCK 2 — NIGHT

Three SWAT trucks drive along a highway heading to the city centre.

Lily and Marceau are in the second SWAT truck. Eve is on a gurney next to them in the back.

Lily looks at Eve. She can see Eve’s faint breath against the oxygen mask.

Lily looks up. There are SWAT officers sitting opposite her. Behind them are small windows which Lily can see out of.

Lily watches at the streets blur. Shop lights and stops lights streak into beams as the truck passes by.

She looks around the truck. She sees officers stare at her and then quickly look away once they’re caught.

She looks down at Eve whose hand hangs off the gurney. Lily looks down at her hands resting in her lap.

Lily slowly reaches for Eve’s hand but hesitates and pulls back. She turns to look out the window behind her. It’s started to rain.

The convoy splits off. Lily watches as the truck behind them turns down a different street. She can’t seem to see the truck in front of them either.

Their truck drives under an overpass and down into a garage of a skyscraper still under renovation.

They come to a gate where a officer in full SWAT uniform lets them in.

The gate shuts behind them.

EXT. SKYSCRAPER — EARLY MORNING/BEFORE SUNRISE

One floor half-way up the building is lit up. The remaining floors are all in darkness.

There’s is the occasional person waking up early in the surrounding buildings so lights flicker here and there.

INT. SKYSCRAPER / FLOOR 29 / STAIRWELL / LIFT SHAFT — EARLY MORNING/BEFORE SUNRISE

Lily is standing by a floor-to-ceiling window in a relatively empty floor which looks like it hasn’t been touched since construction finished.

There is a generator powering a few machines next to a hospital bed where Eve is laying with a bandaged arm.

At the centre of the building, there are two lifts. A SWAT officer is sat by them in a chair. There are a few SWAT officers sat around on chairs.

Marceau sits in a chair next to Eve’s bed. It’s not too far from Lily.

Lily’s arm is bandaged up. She stares at the city skyline which flickers in the rain.

Marceau looks up at her. He opens his mouth, wanting to say something but he hesitates.

SWAT OFFICER (O.S.)
Excuse me.

Both detective look at the officer.

SWAT OFFICER (CONT’D)
The helicopter should be here soon and then we’ll transfer the patient out of the city.

LILY
Do you have any idea for an arrival time?

SWAT OFFICER
It could be anywhere from ten minutes to thirty. Sorry.

The officer shrugs and walks away.

MARCEAU
How’s the arm?

LILY
It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt too bad.

MARCEAU
Hey, I’m sorry this is happening to you.

LILY
Me too.

MARCEAU
Do you believe it?

LILY
Yes. I don’t know what I’m meant to do…

Lily rubs her forehead.

LILY (CONT’D)
With this.

Marceau listens.

LILY (CONT’D)
I don’t understand why. I don’t know who I am.

MARCEAU
You’re you.

LILY
That doesn’t help me. I don’t know what I’m meant to believe right now. Actually I don’t want to think about anything right now.

The lights on the floor black out. The detectives look around.

The SWAT officers turn on their flashlights. The officer sitting by the lifts gets up.

SWAT OFFICER 2
Hey! I’ll check the breakers!

The officer opens a door next to the lift shaft, propping it open with their chair. They go into the stairwell.

Marceau checks Eve and ensures her oxygen mask is still working.

Lily walks up to him.

LILY
Everything still working fine?

MARCEAU
Think so.

TRKKKKKK!

The sound of gunshots from the stairwell.

Everyone snaps toward the sound as it echoes out the door.

SWAT OFFICER (OVER RADIO)
Peters! Can you read me?

There is no feedback coming from the radio. They won’t switch on.

Lily takes note of the radios not working.

The officer turns to Lily and Marceau.

SWAT OFFICER (CONT’D)
Stay here. There are reinforcements outside the building nothing could have gotten in.

LILY
Officer I don’t think that’s true.

The SWAT officer gets an annoyed expression.

SWAT OFFICER
I’m under strict orders detective and I intend to follow them.

The SWAT officers leave Lily and Marceau alone on the floor. They head to the stairwell and head down.

Lily gets out her phone and tries calling a number. It doesn’t work.

LILY
Hey try see if your phone works.

Marceau takes his phone out and tries his.

Lily goes to the windows and looks out through the rain. There’s a light on in the building opposite them. Someone is walking around inside.

It looks like they’re on their phone.

Lily looks back to Marceau.

MARCEAU
It’s not working.

Lily starts pacing.

Marceau watches as Lily paces.

MARCEAU (CONT’D)
You think it’s Dr El?

Lily stops. She comes close to Marceau.

LILY
Yes.

MARCEAU
Okay… The helicopter’s coming soon. We could hold out on the roof.

Lily nods.

LILY
Okay.

Marceau grabs one of the small compressed tanks of oxygen and places it onto a carrier bag. He lifts Eve up and places the bag around Eve’s head and shoulder.

Lily comes around the bed and grabs Eve by one arm. Marceau has her by the other.

The pair lift Eve across the floor and into the stairwell.

TRKKKKKKKK!

TRKKKKKKK!

Lily places her hand on Marceau’s chest. He stops. She lets go of Eve and slowly peers down the stairwell.

Far below Lily can see flashlights attached to shadows. These shadows are throwing bodies down the stairwell. Lily carefully backs up.

She shakes her head at Marceau and points back through the door.

Marceau carefully lifts Eve back through the door. Lily slowly picks the chair up and closes the door, being careful not to make a noise.

MARCEAU
Hold her, let me check the elevator shaft.

Lily grabs hold of Eve who is still unconscious and slumped in Lily’s grip.

Marceau grabs the chair and walks over to one of the lift doors. He places the chair down and pulls the doors open.

He shoves himself in between a small gap between the doors and uses all his strength, using his legs to get more support, to open up the doors.

He grabs the chair and jams it between the doors.

Lily can see into the lift shaft.

LILY
Look, there’s a ladder on the beam.

Marceau sees the ladder on the other side of the beam. He steps onto the support beam which separates the two lift shafts before turning back to hold the door again.

He pulls the door back fully. The other side of the door snaps back into position.

Lily carefully kicks the chair back into the floor, giving her room to carry Eve into the lift shaft.

Marceau is holding onto the door as hard as he can.

MARCEAU
(strained)
Lily, you may want to hurry it up a bit.

Lily places one foot behind Marceau on the support beam and carefully lifts Eve through.

Marceau lets go of the door quickly grabbing the wall with one hand and Eve with the other.

They gather themselves on the beam and start heading to the ladder when a whirring begins.

Marceau looks over the edge and sees one of the lifts coming up.

Lily climbs up the ladder slightly. Marceau lifts Eve up to her.

The lift stops at their floor. 29. The doors open and they can see light through the cracks.

They hear the sound of people coming out of the lift.

CLONE 02 (O.S.)
There’s no one on floor 29…

Marceau points to the top of the lift. Lily nods in agreement.

Marceau passes through cables and struts to get on top of the lift. He reaches out as Lily passes Eve through.

CLONE 02 (O.S.) (CONT’D)
We need to go to the top. Check the elevator shaft first.

CLONE 05 (O.S.)
Alright.

Both Lily and Marceau’s eyes widen.

Marceau lays Eve down on top of the lift behind some beams and Lily quickly slips through the cables to lie down next to them.

Once Lily goes down, the hatch at the top of the lift opens.

The head of a clone sticks out with a flashlight and shines it around the shaft. They point it in the direction where Lily and Marceau are laying.

Both of them are trying to control their breathing. Marceau makes sure that Eve is still breathing.

CLONE 05 (O.S.) (CONT’D)
I’m not seeing anything. Let’s go up.

The hatch closes and the lift doors as well.

The cables begin whirring and the lift suddenly pulls upwards bringing the three stowaways up to the top floors.

Lily looks at Eve as they go up. Eve seems strangely calming to her.

The lift stops at floor 60. The doors open and the clones come out.

Lily lifts herself up and climbs over a support to get to the other side of the lift. She slowly opens the hatch and looks down into the lift.

The doors to the floor are still open. She cannot see anyone.

Lily pulls her head out of the lift and looks to Marceau who is now sitting up.

LILY
We’re good. Come on.

Marceau lifts Eve up and passes her over to Lily. Marceau jumps down into the lift first.

MARCEAU
I’m ready, pass her.

Lily hears a whirring. She looks into the adjoining lift shaft. The other one is coming up.

Lily lowers Eve and quickly goes through the hatch after her.

INT. SKYSCRAPER / FLOOR 60 / CORNER OFFICE — EARLY MORNING/BEFORE SUNRISE

Lily and Marceau carry Eve through the floor.

Unlike floor 29, this floor is relatively refurbished. There are corridors and offices. Some with furniture and some without.

They walk down a hallway which comes to a bend. Lily looks down the bend and sees a shadow figure with a flashlight.

Marceau hears a noise behind them and sees the light of another flashlight coming around.

Marceau sees an office in front of them and nods his head to it. Lily nods her head in agreement.

They quietly bring Eve through the office door and shut the door behind them.

It’s a corner office with a long desk and views across the city.

Lily and Marceau carry Eve behind the desk and lay her down on the carpeted floor.

Marceau sees a landline phone on the desk and grabs it. He starts dialling a number when Lily taps him.

Marceau looks up.

Outside the window, they can see the helicopter approaching to the roof of the building. Its headlights glimmer through the rain.

BOOOOOM!!!!

Lily and Marceau snap their heads to the centre of the floor. The explosion sounds like it happened down the hallway.

Marceau and Lily both stand up. Lily gestures for him to sit down.

Lily quietly steps to the office door and opens it. She can’t see any flashlights down the hallways.

BOOOM!!

Lily moves back, accidentally letting the door close. That second explosion sounded fainter.

Marceau stands up.

LILY
We might be able to get a signal if we get onto the roof.

MARCEAU
We can try that.

Marceau lifts Eve up while Lily holds the office door open for him.

INT. SKYSCRAPER / FLOOR 60 / ROOF ACCESS STAIRCASE — EARLY MORNING/BEFORE SUNRISE

The pair carry Eve down the hallway where they saw the first flashlight.

Marceau keeps looking behind them. Eve is still unconscious.

Lily steps forward and stops. They both look down. The floor is covered in blood.

It’s hard to see without the lights on but they can see a body slumped against the floor in front of them.

Lily lets go of Eve and grabs her gun. She slowly comes to the figure.

As she gets closer she realises. It’s a corpse of a clone. They were blown up by their bomb implant as they are missing their left arm, half of their face and torso.

Lily looks away, unable to look at the clone’s organs spilling out.

Lily comes back to Marceau and picks up Eve again.

They walk a few steps forward to a door with a sign above it reading: ‘Roof Access’.

Marceau opens the door and they all go through. They walk up a narrow staircase. Lily in front with Marceau carrying Eve behind her.

Lily sees blood trickling down the steps. She looks to the top of the staircase. There is no body, only a closed door.

Lily aims her gun at the door and quickly opens it. A corpse falls backward in front of her, also a clone and also exploded.

Lily shoves the body out of the doorway and comes out to the roof. Marceau follows her.

EXT. SKYSCRAPER / ROOF — EARLY MORNING/NEARING SUNRISE

The helicopter is waiting in front of them. It’s engine is off but there are a few lights on in the cockpit which Lily can see despite the rain.

Marceau comes out through the door and Lily helps hold Eve again.

They quickly carry Eve to the helicopter, however, as they get closer they see a body below it wearing a police jacket.

DR EL (O.S.)
Lily!

Lily and Marceau turn around. Dr El has come out of the staircase with two guards.

Lily goes for her gun, bringing it up in front of her —

BANG!

LILY
Ahhhh!!!

One of the guards shoots her right through the hand. Her gun falls to the floor, splashing in a small puddle of rain.

Lily instinctively reaches for her hand but doesn’t let go of Eve, dragging the unconscious clone down onto her.

Lily falls on her knees but is able to catch Eve’s head in her lap.

MARCEAU
Lily!

Marceau tries to bend down to help her.

DR EL
Stop! Do not move.

Marceau freezes.

Lily twinges in pain. Rain mixes with the blood seeping from her hand.

LILY
Ah…

She clutches her hand and bares her teeth.

Dr El and his guards walk a bit closer but maintain some distance.

DR EL
Drop your weapon on the floor and kick it away.

Marceau reaches for his gun.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Stop! No sudden movements!

Marceau freezes.

MARCEAU
Okay, I’m going slowly. I’m going slowly.

He starts, very slowly, reaching for his gun.

Someone emerges out of the shadows and kicks him in the leg. Marceau drops his gun and is met with a gun pressed against the side of his head.

Michael is holding the gun.

Michael lowers Marceau to the ground.

MICHAEL
Don’t move. You will stay on the ground. Don’t look up, don’t think or I will shoot you.

MARCEAU
(baring teeth)
Okay.

Michael lays Marceau on his stomach. Rain hits the back of Marceau’s head.

MICHAEL
Spread your arms and fingers out. Legs too.

Marceau listens and spreads himself like a starfish.

Lily looks back at Marceau. Michael is pointing his gun at his head.

Dr El watches with his clone guards.

Michael turns to Lily.

Eve stirs. Her eyes struggle to open but she is able to open her mouth.

Lily’s eyes widen and she reaches down to Eve’s head, wiping rainwater from her face.

LILY
Eve?

Lily holds her bloody hand away from Eve’s face.

DR EL
Lily! Step away from her!

Lily ignores Dr El. She holds Eve’s hand.

Michael watches Lily.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Lily! Do you want to die?! Listen!

Michael turns to Dr El. He looks at the guards aiming their guns right at Lily. Eve is right in the line of fire.

Marceau is looking at the floor, only able to hear what is going on. He shuts his eyes firmly and looks up to see.

Michael looks back to Lily and walks in front of her blocking any line of fire.

Lily looks up at him. Both their hair drenched.

Michael aims his gun at Lily’s head with both hands, however, none of his fingers are on the trigger.

Michael keeps aiming with his left hand but subtly uses his right hand to point at his forearm.

Lily looks into his eyes. His mouth begins to move. She looks at his mouth.

MICHAEL
(mouthing)
Did you defuse them?

Lily squints slightly at his mouth. He repeats, pointing at his forearm.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)
(mouthing)
Did you defuse them?

Marceau is looking confused. He doesn’t understand what Michael is saying.

Dr El can’t see anything.

DR EL
Michael! What are you doing?! Shoot her!

Lily looks at Michael’s forearm. She looks down to Eve and lifts her bandaged arm next to her own. She looks up at Michael and nods.

Michael nods. He reaches into his jacket with his free hand and pulls out the device he stole from Dr El.

Dr El still doesn’t see Michael doing anything. He turns to his guards.

DR EL (CONT’D)
Keep aiming at Lily. As soon as Michael moves take the shot.

Michael holds the device with a firm grip and presses the button. He quickly bends down to cover Eve.

Lily can see the guards frantically clawing at their arms.

BOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!

What is left of the guards falls to the ground. Dr El falls after them. He’s been ripped apart from both sides and collapses, slowly bleeding out.

Lily looks at Michael. He is holding Eve’s hand and her head. Michael is consumed by Eve. His gaze doesn’t pry from her.

Lily doesn’t know what to do.

MICHAEL
I’m not going to do anything to you two.

Michael looks up. Marceau is looking up at them but hasn’t gotten up.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)
You can get up.

Marceau is confused. He hesitantly gets up and comes over slowly.

Lily remains kneeling with Eve’s head in her lap.

Michael looks back down at Eve.

Eve squeezes Michael’s hand back. Her eyes open. She sees Michael and smiles.

EVE
(muffled)
I love you too.

Lily watches in silence.

Michael lifts Eve up, hugging her. As he holds Eve he looks at Lily and then Marceau.

MICHAEL
Thank you. Thank you.

Neither Lily nor Marceau know what to say.

Michael leans back, still holding Eve up.

MICHAEL (CONT’D)
We need to go.

Eve nods, her eyes weakening and eventually closing. Michael lifts her in his arms and turns to the helicopter.

Lily stands up. She’s clutching her bloody hand.

LILY
You can’t go.

Michael looks back at Lily.

MICHAEL
We can’t stay.

LILY
But what are you going to do? What am I meant to do?

Marceau is standing behind Lily. He feels sympathy for her.

Michael looks at Lily for a moment.

MICHAEL
We’re going to live. It’s all we can do.

LILY
How am I meant to live with this?

Michael sighs.

MICHAEL
You’ll find a way to if you accept it, this. It isn’t the end of the world and you aren’t dead. You’re alive, so live.

Michael turns to the helicopter and walks up to it. The doors to the passenger seats have already been slid open. He sets Eve down and opens the driver door.

Lily watches as Michael pulls out a dead clone pilot and puts Eve in her seat properly. He gets into the cockpit and starts the engine.

Marceau comes and stands next to Lily. She is still clutching her hand. The rain starts to slow, eventually stopping.

The sun begins rising over the horizon.

The helicopter lifts off the roof and starts flying from the building.

Lily and Marceau watch the sunrise. She leans her head against his shoulder. He brings his hand around her, holding her.

SWAT officers rush out of the staircase door and onto the roof.

We see Lily and Marceau standing there.

The sun keeps rising.
