EXT. FRANK’S PUB — MONDAY MORNING
Joseph drives into an alley behind the pub. He’s hardworking, skilled, and stands for his morals. He is mid-thirties. He waits for a moment before the door opens. Frank comes in.
FRANK
Hey there Joe. Did you finish the job?
JOSEPH
I did.
FRANK
Lovely. Here you go then.
Frank hands over a bag. Joseph looks inside. There is a single 100gram bar of gold. Joseph nods. This bar is worth roughly £5000.
JOSEPH
Thanks boss.
Joseph stuffs the gold bullion (bar) into the inside of his coat.
FRANK
Listen, Joe, before you leave I have another job.
JOSEPH
Already? Tell me, I’m free.
Frank breathes through his teeth.
FRANK
You may not like it Joe.
JOSEPH
Why not?
FRANK
Because it’s for Bobby.
JOSEPH
Bobby? Bob ‘Bobby’ Johnson, Bobby? Did that fucker personally ask for me to do it?
FRANK
No, no, but I don’t have any available men right now.
JOSEPH
You’re sure?
FRANK
Yes Joe.
There’s a moment of silence whilst Joseph looks around disappointed.
FRANK (CONT’D)
I know it’s hard for you, but this needs to be done.
JOSEPH
I understand Frank, but this fucking guy. I mean come on. You expect me to work for him?
Joseph shakes his head.
FRANK
Joe…
Joseph sighs.
JOSEPH
What’s the job?
FRANK
Bobby want’s his chauffeur killed.
Joseph looks confused.
FRANK (CONT’D)
Driver.
JOSEPH
No, I know.
FRANK
The guys name is Stephen. Bobby thinks he’s ratting on his location to O’Donnelly. He’s apparently been suspicious for months but didn’t do or say anything.
JOSEPH
Why would O’Donnelly care about Bobby? He’s not that involved with us —
FRANK
I don’t know. But Phil told me he wanted me to take care of it, so I’m here asking you.
He looks at Joseph, who looks back.
FRANK (CONT’D)
Will you do it?
JOSEPH
How much?
FRANK
50,000.
JOSEPH
50,000? Actually? For one guy?
Joseph contemplates the hit.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Bobby didn’t pay for the last job he asked done.
FRANK
Yes, but because of your past with him, I’ll pay you personally if he doesn’t.
Joseph thinks about the hit.
FRANK (CONT’D)
Joseph, I just need this done. I’m not trying to get in fucking trouble with Alan because I couldn’t do what that little-fucker Bobby asked.
JOSEPH
Why would Alan care that much?
FRANK
It’s the anniversary this week.
JOSEPH
What?
FRANK
His birthday.
JOSEPH
I thought that was in a week or two.
FRANK
It is but he wants to celebrate it along with the anniversary of the, the association.
JOSEPH
Ah okay.
FRANK
I’ll probably have your invite for you tonight after you come back from the job. So what do you say? I don’t have all day.
JOSEPH
I’ll do it don’t worry.
FRANK
Good man. Bobby wants to meet you at this address.
Frank hands over a note to Joseph.
FRANK (CONT’D)
It’s a restaurant.
JOSEPH
Do I need my own gun?
FRANK
No actually. Bobby says he has a gun already. I’m guessing he’ll give it to you when you meet.
JOSEPH
Alright then.
Frank opens the door of the car and gets out. He’s about to close the door when he leans back in.
FRANK
Come back after you finish. Don’t do anything stupid, I’m serious, he’s guarded and you know that.
JOSEPH
I won’t boss.
Frank nods and shuts the door of the car.
Joseph drives off.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE RESTAURANT — MONDAY NOON
Joseph parks on the opposite side of the road to the restaurant. He gets out and comes to the front doors. There is a woman there.
WOMAN SERVER
Hello sir, do you have a booking?
JOSEPH
No, I’m waiting for someone. They were meant to meet me outside.
WOMAN SERVER
Well, you can wait for a bit, but eventually you will have to move.
JOSEPH
D’you think I could check inside to see if they’re there?
Joseph says pointing at the doors. He begins walking towards the doors but the woman gets in front of him.
WOMAN SERVER
Sir, you’re not allowed inside without a reservation.
JOSEPH
I just want to check. I don’t understand why I can’t check?
INT. THE RESTAURANT
Bobby is sitting at a table. He spots Joseph outside getting angry at the woman. He stands up and walks towards the door.
EXT. THE RESTAURANT
Bobby opens the front door.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Excuse me dear, he’s with me.
The woman turns around.
WOMAN SERVER
Oh okay, thank you.
Bobby closes the door and walks back to his table. She turns to Joseph.
WOMAN SERVER (CONT’D)
You can go on in now sir.
Joseph looks so confused at her nonchalant demeanour. He walks in slowly dumbfounded.
INT. THE RESTAURANT
Bobby is sat at his table already. Joseph enters looking around the restaurant. There’s no one there.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Joseph! How are you? Sit, sit.
JOSEPH
There’s no one here.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Yes I reserved the whole restaurant.
JOSEPH
Okay then. Frank said you had the gun for me.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
(smug)
Right down to business huh? No hello? No nothing?
Joseph just stares at Bobby.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Hey, I’m just joking. Cheer up. You get to kill someone today. Doesn’t that make you people happy —
JOSEPH
Shut the fuck up. What are saying?
Joseph looks around worried.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
No one’s going to hear us. The place isn’t wired trust me.
Joseph looks disappointed and annoyed.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Seriously, do you want a drink? I’ll pay.
JOSEPH
Fine. I’ll have —
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Waiter!
A waiter comes scurrying to the table from out of view.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Two Amalfi Dreams.
WAITER
Right away sir.
The waiter scurries away.
JOSEPH
What the fuck is an Amalfi Dream?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Hell, I don’t know, it’s on the menu. Let loose a little, you don’t have to be so uptight.
JOSEPH
I don’t want this to go wrong Bobby. A lot of people get fucked over if it does, including me.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Oh I always forget you hitmen are like this. You’re no fun. Who was the last guy I worked with? What was his name?
Joseph is visibly getting angrier.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Oh yeahh, Sam right? Weren’t you guys friends?
Joseph doesn’t say anything.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
It’s a real shame he fucked up. Caused him to get killed —
JOSEPH
(blunt)
Where’s the gun?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Tryna ruin my fun huh? Alright. The gun’s in the bathroom. I’ll make it clear when I want you to get it.
JOSEPH
Where’s the guy? Stephen?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Yeah he’s coming, it’s his day off today so he’ll come in a couple of minutes or so.
JOSEPH
Who drove you here then?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Him. He drove me then went back home. Apparently he had to spend some time with his daughter on her birthday. Don’t know why.
JOSEPH
It’s his daughter’s birthday?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Yeah, is that gonna be a problem?
JOSEPH
Bobby. Come on, that’s a dick move.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
He’s a rat. I’m being sensible.
JOSEPH
Nah you’re just being a cunt.
The waiter comes back with their drinks.
WAITER
(to Bobby)
Here you go sir.
(to Joseph)
And you.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Thank you.
The waiter bows and turns to Joseph. Joseph doesn’t do anything so the waiter leaves after a second.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Have some manners Joseph. You look like you’re about to kill a man.
Bobby starts laughing.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I know you’re just doing this for the money. You would never do this for me. You hate me I know that. But what happened to your friend, Sam, Samuel, whatever the fuck his name was — that wasn’t my fault. He was a pussy.
Joseph’s hand grips the knife on the table. Bobby doesn’t notice.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
He didn’t follow through. He caused his own death. Not my little fuck up —
Joseph stands up quickly, leaning over the table and grabs Bobby by the lapel, pressing the knife into his neck.
JOSEPH
You better shut the fuck up, before I make you shut the fuck up.
Bobby looks nervous.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Okay, okay, I’m sorry. Please take the knife from my neck.
Joseph leans back and sits back down. Bobby rubs his neck.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Would you look at that? Perfect timing.
Bobby gestures towards the front door. Joseph turns around to see. Stephen is talking to the woman server outside.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
If you would excuse me.
Bobby gets up and walks to the door. Joseph tries to make the table look normal again after having knocked over some things when grabbing Bobby.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.) (CONT’D)
He’s with me too dear.
WOMAN SERVER (O.S.)
Oh okay sir.
Bobby walks back to the table with Stephen.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
How’s your daughter?
STEPHEN
Oh she’s very happy.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
How old did you say she was again?
STEPHEN
Seven today.
Joseph looks annoyed, frustrated by Bobby’s timing of the hit.
Bobby and Stephen get to the table.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Stephen, this is Joseph. Joseph, Stephen.
Joseph stands up. Stephen extends his hand and they shake. They all sit.
STEPHEN
(to Joseph)
Nice to meet you.
JOSEPH
You too.
STEPHEN
Do you work for Bobby?
JOSEPH
Oh no, my friends do.
STEPHEN
Ah okay, are you also a chauffeur?
JOSEPH
No I work in a pub.
STEPHEN
You must drink a lot then.
Stephen laughs and pounds Joseph’s shoulder. Joseph gives off a fake laugh.
JOSEPH
Yeah, sure.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Actually Stephen you met one of his friends?
STEPHEN
Really?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Do you remember Samuel?
STEPHEN
Oh yeah, I remember the fella.
Joseph looks at Bobby, glaring into his eyes.
The waiter comes up to the table.
WAITER
Are you all ready to order?
JOSEPH
I think we need —
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Three sirloin steaks.
(to Stephen and Joseph)
Are you guys fine with medium?
Joseph and Stephen aren’t given a chance to speak before Bobby continues.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
We’ll just go with medium for all.
The waiter writes the order down into his notebook.
WAITER
Is that all sir?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Could we have three more drinks? The same as last time.
WAITER
Absolutely sir.
The waiter bows and walks off.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
The steaks in this place are amazing. You’ll love them, I’m sure.
STEPHEN
Did you ever get to speak to Williams today?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Williams? Why would I need to speak to him?
STEPHEN
You-you had that thing didn’t you?
Joseph looks from Bobby to Stephen then back to Bobby, to see Bobby looking at him.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
I don’t remember saying anything about a Williams.
Bobby raises his eyebrows at Joseph and looks to the side, indicating Joseph to go to the bathroom.
STEPHEN
Huh, I must be thinking of another person then.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Maybe.
Bobby smiles.
JOSEPH
Sorry gents, if you’ll excuse me, I need to take a piss.
Joseph stands up and walks away from the table.
INT. THE RESTAURANT — BATHROOM
Joseph walks into the bathroom.
JOSEPH
This fucking guy, Jesus Christ. I’m never fucking agreeing to this shit again. Jesus.
Joseph stands there for a second not moving but looking around.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Ugh he didn’t tell me where.
Joseph looks disappointed. He looks up defeated.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
No detector, alright.
Joseph takes a packet of cigarettes out from his coat and grabs his lighter. He starts smoking. He looks in the mirror. He keeps smoking.
Joseph begins looking around the bathroom. He looks under the sinks. Being careful with his cigarette. He tries to move the mirror to see if there is space behind it. There isn’t.
He slowly opens each cubicle, one by one, and peers inside. He can’t see anything. He keeps smoking. He goes to one cubicle and tries to take the top off the toilet tank. He manages to yank it off and places the top on the seat. There’s nothing inside. He keeps smoking.
He looks up, noticing a panel in the ceiling is out of place slightly. It is above a different toilet seat. He walks into the next cubicle and gets onto the seat. He grabs his phone and presses the torch button for light. He slowly lifts the panel and shines his phone through. He spots the gun.
He takes the gun out, it is a revolver. He shakes his head and raises his eyebrows at the fact Bobby gave him a revolver.
He puts the panel back in place and walks to the mirror, gun in hand. He keeps smoking. He opens the bullet chamber, making sure that all the bullets are there. He finishes his cigarette, flicking it into a sink and turning on the tap to soak it. He puts the gun into his pocket and walks out of the bathroom.
INT. THE RESTAURANT
Joseph walks back to the table.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Well then Daniel told me, the reason Jacob was kicked out was because he cheated on his wife —
STEPHEN
Well I knew that.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Wait, wait, wait, do you know who he cheated on her with?
Stephen shakes his head no. Joseph reaches the table and sits down. Bobby looks up.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Bad stomach huh?
JOSEPH
Yeah, I couldn’t seem to find the toilet paper.
Joseph raises his eyebrows at Bobby quickly.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Ah okay, well I’m glad you found it. Anyway, Jacob. Had sex.
STEPHEN
Yeah?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
With her mother.
STEPHEN
What? Her mother? Her actual mother?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Yeah — that was my fucking reaction. It’s fucking sick, I don’t know what the fuck he was thinking. For fucks sake, she’s married too. I don’t know what either of them were thinking.
STEPHEN
Holy shit. I mean, she is hot, but that’s his wife’s mother. His children’s grandmother.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
You don’t think I know that?
The waiter starts walking over with the three steaks. They reach the table and places the steaks down one by one.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
Thank you.
The waiter walks off. Bobby starts cutting into his steak, so does Stephen.
STEPHEN
Fucking hell. I don’t even know what to say to that, that’s sick.
Joseph hand is firmly on the revolvers handle. He drinks with his other hand.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Well he’s effectively homeless now. But in this day and age, I wouldn’t be surprised if he married the mother. People are, they’re fucked up like that.
The waiter comes back with there new drinks.
WAITER
(to Bobby)
Sorry for the delay on the drinks, sir.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Don’t worry about it.
Bobby gestures for the waiter to leave. The waiter walks away. Joseph’s eyes follow them as they leave the room. Joseph looks at the steak.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
You not gonna eat Joseph?
Joseph looks up at Bobby.
STEPHEN
Your stomach hurt that bad?
Stephen laughs obnoxiously, again pounding Joseph’s arm.
Joseph lets go of the revolver and starts cutting into the steak.
STEPHEN (CONT’D)
I couldn’t imagine what I would do if my wife fucked my dad. I mean what would my children think. My daughter, I mean, she’d be distraught if mum left.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Hey what if you fucked your wife’s mum? Would your daughter miss you?
Bobby taps Stephen’s arm. Stephen stares at Bobby, then laughs with a delayed reaction.
STEPHEN
Oh you crack me up Bobby. Honestly though, she’d miss her mum more than she’d miss me.
Bobby has just put a piece of steak in his mouth. He’s chewing. He holds his finger up, indicating to ‘wait a second.’
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
(with a mouthful of meat)
It’s tough.
He finishes chewing.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
That’s good to hear though.
STEPHEN
Hm, what’s good?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
That your daughter wouldn’t miss you as much.
Joseph has his hand on his revolver again.
STEPHEN
I’m confused, why is that good?
Joseph is staring at Bobby.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Ask Joseph.
Bobby nods at Joseph. Stephen turns to Joseph to see him pointing a gun at his face.
BANG
Stephan falls off his chair like a fish flopping out of water. Joseph stands up, still holding the revolver. Stephen tries to crawl away but struggles incredibly. Joseph kicks Stephen over, so that he’s on his back. Stephen tries to hold his hands up. Joseph shoots again.
BANG
Stephen stops moving. His hands fall dead. Joseph walks back to the table and sits down.
Bobby is still eating. He has almost finished his steak. Joseph puts the revolver next to his own plate.
Bobby picks up Stephen’s steak with his fork and puts it onto his plate. He has some blood splatter on his face, but keeps eating.
Joseph doesn’t touch his steak.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
I’m glad you didn’t fuck that up Joseph. You did a good job. I actually would’ve preferred you kill him a little earlier but oh well.
JOSEPH
You didn’t signal earlier.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
You should be able to tell.
Bobby keeps eating Stephen’s steak.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
You know the peppercorn sauce here is actually amazing, I love it —
JOSEPH
What about the waiter?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
The workers?
Joseph nods.
JOSEPH
Yes.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
They’ve all been paid off. No one cares there’s a dead man here. You shouldn’t either, you’re job is done already.
JOSEPH
Fine.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
But you know what, good job Joseph, you did well. Relax. Have a drink. Finish your steak. Unlike Sam, you actually did your job.
JOSEPH
Shut the fuck up. Don’t talk about Sam again.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON
Or what? You won’t do jack-shit. I own you right now. I’m paying you. You get to go home tonight and enjoy yourself, knowing you’ve made an easy Fifty-K.
Joseph doesn’t say anything.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
You not gonna speak? You’re that pissed about your friend?
Joseph still doesn’t say anything. His places his hands on the table and leans back.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (CONT’D)
How many times will I have to try get it through your thick skull that your friend was a pussy. A little bitch pussy —
Joseph stands up quickly, his chair flies backwards, his hand on the gun. Bobby doesn’t have time to finish his sentence.
BANG
Bobby chokes, he was shot in the neck. Blood spurts out of his neck. He slumps back in his chair, twitching and staring at Joseph.
BANG
BANG
BANG
The gun smokes, the chamber completely empty. Bobby sits in his chair dead. Joseph stands there still holding his gun.
CUT TO:
INT. GIUSEPPE’S PIZZERIA — MANAGER’S OFFICE — MONDAY NOON
Luis is sitting at the desk of his manager’s office. He’s honest and wants to make his way in life without having to resort to criminality. He is a young ex-convict, in his late twenties. He is of Spanish descent. The office is small and unprofessional, with pizza boxes all around. His manager is sitting across from him.
LUIS
Did I do something wrong Marzia?
MARZIA
No, no. You’ve been perfect Luis. The past couple days since you’ve been working here have been amazing. It’s really my fault. I didn’t do a background check when you started working here.
Marzia is kind and thoughtful, she and Luis flirt a lot around the pizzeria, so it annoys her that she has to fire him. She herself is also young, the same age as Luis.
LUIS
Oh…
MARZIA
Yeah.
LUIS
Is it really a big problem?
MARZIA
Well, Lorenzo doesn’t want the family business to be tainted. He thinks if we hire you, people might find out and complain or something.
LUIS
I stay in the back though, no one would have to know —
Marzia holds her hands out as if you stop Luis from speaking.
MARZIA
I know Luis. I’m just relaying what I’ve been told. I don’t want to have to let you go at all. I don’t really understand either why it’s such a big deal but it’s what Lorenzo wants.
LUIS
Okay then.
MARZIA
I’m really sorry, but you are fired. This is your notice. I understand though if you don’t want to come in for the next few days.
Marzia pauses for a moment.
MARZIA (CONT’D)
You’ll still be paid for all your work and everything.
LUIS
I understand. Thank you.
Luis smiles weakly at her. He stands up and walks out of the office.
EXT. GIUSEPPE’S PIZZERIA
Luis is walking in an alley away from the building, he looks sad and annoyed at being fired. Marzia runs out after him.
MARZIA
Luis!
Luis turns around confused.
LUIS
Yeah what’s wrong?
MARZIA
I don’t know if this is inappropriate seeing as I’ve just had to fire you.
She gives a quick fake chuckle.
MARZIA (CONT’D)
But, uhm, do you think I could have your number? Like maybe we could go out sometime, just us.
Luis’ face gets happier.
LUIS
Yeah absolutely, give me your phone.
Marzia hands him her phone and Luis inputs his contacts.
MARZIA
Thanks, I’ll give you a call.
Marzia smiles at Luis before turning away and going back into the building. Luis looks happy as he walks away.
Luis pulls out his phone and starts calling someone.
LUIS
Hey can you meet?
Luis pauses for the reply.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Yeah the pub is fine I’ll meet you there. Bye.
Luis puts the phone away and keeps walking.
CUT TO:
INT. FRANK’S PUB — MONDAY AFTERNOON
Luis walks up to the bar to his friend. His friend turns around.
ARGYLE
Luis! What’s up man? Everything good?
Argyle is loyal to Luis. They’ve been friends since childhood. Argyle himself is very stoic when he wants to be and doesn’t take shit from anyone. However, he loosens up whenever he’s with Luis. He is also in his late twenties/early thirties same as Luis.
Luis sits down next to Argyle.
LUIS
I just got fired.
ARGYLE
Huh? From the pizzeria? Seriously? I thought they loved you. What happened?
LUIS
They found out about my criminal record.
ARGYLE
(confused)
But that was only petty theft? Nothing big.
LUIS
Yeah I know, but apparently Lorenzo didn’t want to ruin the place’s reputation —
ARGYLE
Who’s Lorenzo again?
LUIS
The owner’s son.
ARGYLE
Is he the manager you were talking about?
LUIS
What? No! The manager’s a woman that’s why I was flirting with her, c’mon.
Argyle holds his hands up defensively.
ARGYLE
My bad, my bad.
Argyle chuckles to himself.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Seriously though that sucks. Why didn’t they check your record before then?
LUIS
Fuck if I know. They just didn’t. That’s like the third place too, and I preferred this the most.
ARGYLE
Let me buy you a drink.
Argyle leans over the counter. He looks at someone: Frank.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Frank!
Frank walks over.
FRANK
What do you want?
ARGYLE
Can we get two beers?
FRANK
Guinness? Yeah sure.
Frank pours the two beers and hands them over.
LUIS
It’s not all bad though.
ARGYLE
What do you mean?
LUIS
Marzia, the manager.
ARGYLE
Mhm.
LUIS
She asked for my number and said she’ll call me.
ARGYLE
Oh shit really.
Argyle has a big grin on his face. Argyle points his finger at Luis and wags it up and down.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
All that flirting paid off.
LUIS
It literally did.
Luis smiles. He drinks his beer.
ARGYLE
I’m sure you’ll find another job too. You could definitely find another pizza place.
LUIS
Yeah probably, I’m not too upset about it so it’s alright.
ARGYLE
I did see something though, it was a pizza place up in Marylebone. Probably some of the best pizza I’ve had in my whole life, I mean the parmesan literally melting in my mouth, it was like fucking an angel —
Luis snorts, choking on his beer.
LUIS
You wouldn’t know what fucking an angel was like with your game.
ARGYLE
Wow. I can see you’re not that upset damn. Maybe I should call Marzia, she can come out with me instead —
FRANK
Argyle.
Argyle looks over to Frank. Frank gestures him to come over down the bar.
ARGYLE
Give me a second.
LUIS
Yeah sure.
Argyle stands up and walks down the bar. He leans over the counter. Luis drinks his beer, trying to eavesdrop. He looks at Frank and Argyle out of the corner of his eye.
FRANK
Here.
Frank slides over a single one ounce gold coin (roughly £1,500). Argyle covers the coin instantly and slides it into his pocket.
FRANK (CONT’D)
I know you just finished a job but somethings come up. You willing to do it?
ARGYLE
Yeah of course Frank, anything for you.
FRANK
Good lad. It’s a hit. 200K, gold bullions.
ARGYLE
Yeah.
FRANK
You know Joseph?
ARGYLE
Yeah I do, why?
FRANK
Well it’s him.
ARGYLE
A hit on Joseph? The fuck did he do?
FRANK
Killed someone he wasn’t meant to, and now Alan’s pissed. You still want to do it?
ARGYLE
Yeah I will.
FRANK
Here’s an address. You may want to check it out, it might help.
Argyle nods. Frank extends his hand for a handshake. They shake hands.
Luis has been drinking his beer the whole time. Argyle walks back to Luis.
LUIS
What was that all about?
ARGYLE
A hit.
LUIS
Didn’t you do one recently?
ARGYLE
Yeah but this is worth it. 200K, gold.
LUIS
200K? Seriously? To kill —
Argyle coughs.
LUIS (CONT’D)
To take care of one guy?
ARGYLE
I’m just fucking with you, no one cares here. But yes 200K.
LUIS
Wait why gold?
ARGYLE
Fuck if I know. It’s fancy I guess? Easier to store too than money so it’s fair enough.
LUIS
Oh yeah I guess that’s true.
Luis drinks more beer. Argyle looks over at Luis, drinking his own beer while doing so.
ARGYLE
Actually Luis, do you wanna help me?
LUIS
With the hit?
ARGYLE
Yeah why not? You’re good at this stuff —
Luis looks as if he’s about to say something. Argyle puts his hand up.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
I know you said you didn’t wanna do that shit anymore but 200K Luis. I know your arse is broke. You need the money, and frankly I’d rather some backup for this hit.
LUIS
I know but I agreed to stay out of trouble. I don’t want to upset my parents. They only know about the petty theft, if they find out that I’ve done this shit with you I’m fucked. They’ll never talk to me again.
Luis scratches his head. He sighs.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Why do want back up? Do you know the person? Are they dangerous?
ARGYLE
Everyone who’s got a hit on them is probably dangerous. I don’t know him though, only heard of him, but everyone speaks highly of him, like he’s some master at his work.
Luis raises his eyebrow. Not believing Argyle.
LUIS
You believe that?
ARGYLE
Not really, but better be safe than sorry. Look you can drop out whenever you want but I just want someone with me and I trust you more than anyone.
Luis finishes his beer. He sits in silence for a moment.
LUIS
And nothing bad would happen?
ARGYLE
Absolutely nothing. I’ll protect you every step of the way. And we split it 50/50.
Luis nods. He kisses his teeth.
LUIS
Okay fine. I’ll do it.
ARGYLE
(quickly)
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I fucking love you Luis. You’re gonna make me cum. We’ll leave now, I got an address we should check out.
Argyle gets of his barstool and starts walking towards the Pub’s doors. Luis is still sat down. He turns around.
LUIS
You wanna leave now? No more drinks?
ARGYLE
200K motherfucka! Bring your arse over and come with me.
Luis gets off his barstool reluctantly. He follows after Argyle. They walk towards the door together.
Someone opens the Pub door: Liam.
LIAM
Hey Argyle. You leaving already?
ARGYLE
Got a job.
LIAM
Good luck son.
Liam pats Argyle on the back and walks towards the bar. Argyle and Luis leave.
CUT TO:
EXT. THAMES — MONDAY AFTERNOON
Joseph throws the revolver into the Thames River. He walks back into his car and drives off. He puts on his music.
CUT TO:
EXT. FRANK’S PUB
Joseph parks a street away from the pub. He walks towards the pub and goes down a side alley. The side door is open. He goes inside.
INT. FRANK’S PUB
Joseph hears talking. He is confused as to who is talking. The door to Frank’s office is open. He creeps closer, silently.
Frank is in his office with Alan and Phil. There are also two bodyguards for Alan.
Alan is the head boss of the organization. Phil is another boss who works directly with Alan. Alan is an old man in his 70s/80s. Phil is younger around 50 much like Frank himself.
ALAN
Did you put out the hit?
FRANK
Yes boss I did.
ALAN
Don’t you lie to me now. You understand the severity of this situation don’t you?
FRANK
I’m not lying boss I swear. I already have a man on it. He’s a good hitman. He does odd jobs for me whenever I ask. I trust him to do this.
Joseph smiles thinking that Frank is talking about himself.
PHIL
So you’re positive this hitman will kill Joseph?
Joseph smile fades instantly. His face drops.
FRANK
Yes Phil. He will. He hasn’t failed me yet.
ALAN
That’s good.
FRANK
Has anyone asked about Bobby yet?
ALAN
So far no Frank. But that information isn’t important to you right now.
FRANK
Alan, I know you’re angry —
Alan points down on Frank’s desk. He taps furiously as he speaks. Phil looks over at Alan in support.
ALAN
Angry?! Are you serious? You hire the one person to do a job who’s most likely to kill Bobby. You’re a fucking idiot.
FRANK
I’m sorry Alan.
ALAN
You’re coming with me.
Joseph is trying to process everything he is hearing. He is unsure of what to do. He searches his pockets for the gun, forgetting that he’s thrown it away.
JOSEPH
(whispering)
Fuck.
(Back to the Bosses in the office).
FRANK
Coming with you where?
ALAN
Well if this Joseph is as good as you say then why wouldn’t he want to kill you right now?
Joseph still looks confused.
PHIL
(to the bodyguards)
Get the car ready. Bring it to the alley.
Joseph’s eyes widen. He quickly leaves the pub into the alley.
Alan and Phil are up. The bodyguards have left to get the car. Frank is still sat down.
ALAN
Frank. Come. This isn’t a suggestion. Come. You stay with me for a day or two. Phil will place some of his people to watch over the pub. If they see Joseph then the little fucker will get killed, and all our problems will be solved. Now come.
Frank reluctantly stands up. Alan leaves the office, Frank following him, and Phil behind them all. Phil leaves the office last and closes the door.
The Bosses get into the car that the bodyguards have parked outside the side-door.
Joseph is hiding behind a large-metal-bin. He sees the Bosses get into the car, and watches the car drive off. He looks confused and not sure what to do. His eyes move from side to side quickly.
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S CAR — MONDAY EVENING
Argyle and Luis are in the car, listening along to music.
LUIS
I’m just saying I would rather get it checked out then do nothing. Are you seriously saying you wouldn’t even get like a yearly check up?
ARGYLE
Man, fuck that. I’m not letting no doctor near my arsehole or nothing.
LUIS
Argyle what if you have prostate cancer. You’ll never find out if you don’t get it checked out. Obviously we’re too young but like in the future.
Argyle parks the car. They both get out. They start walking towards the entrance of a block of flats.
ARGYLE
No I’m still not letting a crusty old man, near my arse then, and I think that’s valid.
LUIS
Fuck no it’s not valid. Also not all doctors are old, what are you talking about?
ARGYLE
Literally in all the adverts I’ve seen for prostate cancer, they’re all old white guys.
Argyle opens the building door. They walk inside.
INT. ARGYLE’S FLAT BLOCK
The pair walk out of the lift and start walking towards Argyle’s flat door.
ARGYLE
I don’t know I just find the thought of someone’s finger up my bum a little weird. Now if you wanna do that Luis that’s up to you. But me and my colon are staying off limits.
LUIS
What about testicular cancer? Would you let a doctor look at your cock and balls if you saw a lump?
ARGYLE
It depends then, is it a woman or a man doctor?
They reach Argyle’s flat door. He takes out his key and opens the door.
LUIS
Does it matter?
They walk inside.
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
They walk into Argyle’s house.
LUIS
Wait should I take my shoes off?
ARGYLE
Yeah, we won’t stay long but my mum would kill me if she found out I let people walk inside with shoes on.
LUIS
Yeah, yeah, I know. It’s the same for me.
Luis sits down by the door to take his shoes off whilst Argyle kicks his shoes off.
Argyle walks into his kitchen while Luis still takes his shoes off. Argyle pours himself a drink of whiskey.
ARGYLE
You want anything Luis? Drink-wise?
LUIS
I’ll have whatever you’re having.
ARGYLE
Cool. Argyle pours a glass of whiskey for Luis. Luis comes to the kitchen, shoeless. He picks up the glass and starts sipping.
LUIS
But why does it matter?
ARGYLE
Hm?
LUIS
Man or woman doctor?
ARGYLE
Ohhh. Look listen. I would rather a woman, in a very respectful manner keep in mind —
Argyle nods. Luis nods back too in a smug manner.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Be touching my dick then a man. That’s just how it is, okay?
Argyle gestures Luis to follow him into his room. The pair walk towards his bedroom.
LUIS
Seriously? Wouldn’t you be scared enough that it didn’t matter whether it’s a woman or man?
ARGYLE
Look Luis, I don’t want a guy to be stroking on ma cock.
Luis smiles greatly.
LUIS
They’re not going to be stroking on your cock.
They’re in the bedroom now. Argyle places his glass of whiskey on his bedside table. He grabs a chair and drags it to his wardrobe. He stands on the chair.
ARGYLE
I know that obviously. But I find it weird. Actually, I don’t wanna get hard while a woman doctor is checking my balls.
LUIS
Why would you be hard? Are you into cupping?
ARGYLE
Bitch what?
LUIS
Cupping?
ARGYLE
What the fuck is that?
Argyle opens his wardrobe and takes out a box. He comes down from the chair and puts the box on his bed. He opens it.
LUIS
It’s like when someone holds your balls. I don’t know if it’s squeezing too though.
ARGYLE
(shocked)
Squeezing!!?? Oh my lord?? Wouldn’t that hurt?
Inside the box is a couple (2 to 4) of 9mm guns. There is also a load of magazines and loose bullets. Argyle picks up the magazines and checks that they are full. He fiddles with the loose bullets, trying to shove them into the magazines to check they’re actually full. Luis has been drinking his whiskey the whole time.
LUIS
No, no it’s like a soft squeeze? People do like it apparently.
ARGYLE
Apparently huh? Are you sure you haven’t had that?
LUIS
Erhh no. I have not.
Argyle puts the magazines into both guns. He passes one gun to Luis. Luis finishes his whiskey and puts it down.
ARGYLE
Here.
LUIS
Thanks.
Argyle picks up a few spare magazines which are full. He hands two over to Luis and keeps two himself. They stuff it into their coats and belts.
ARGYLE
I guess next sex thing I gotta try is cupping.
LUIS
Why? You preparing yourself for the doctors?
ARGYLE
No your mum.
Luis smacks his arm lightly.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
(quickly)
I’m joking, I’m joking. Don’t shoot.
Argyle laughs a little. He picks up his drink again and finishes it.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
C’mon let’s go.
They leave the bedroom. They bring their drinks to the kitchen and leave them in the sink. They put their shoes on and leave.
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S CAR — MONDAY EVENING
The music is on again, same as earlier. They have just pulled out from the parking spot.
LUIS
Where are we going?
ARGYLE
I’m not sure. Frank just gave me this address on a napkin.
Argyle holds up the napkin and waves it.
LUIS
Lemme put it into maps.
ARGYLE
Yep.
LUIS
Okay got it. It’s a restaurant.
ARGYLE
A restaurant? Okay then.
EXT. THE RESTAURANT
They walk up to the door. The woman server is there.
ARGYLE
Hi we work for a man called Frank. I think he may have called ahead?
WOMAN SERVER
Oh yes he has. It’s just inside you’ll see. I’ll lock the door after you.
ARGYLE
Thanks.
The woman server unlocks the door and lets them in.
INT. THE RESTAURANT
The woman server locks the door as they come inside. Argyle notices Bobby sitting dead in his chair. He starts walking up to the massacre.
ARGYLE
Jesus.
LUIS
Which one is the Bobby guy?
ARGYLE
That one. Other ones Stephen.
Argyle points to Bobby.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Shot in the neck? Ouf. That’s a painful shot. Looks like he unloaded the clip into this guy.
Luis walks over to Stephen.
LUIS
Well this guys not much better. He got shot in the face.
Argyle turns around.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Look, right under the eye. And then in the heart.
Luis crouches down, and notices a bulge in Stephen’s shirt.
ARGYLE
God I forgot how natural you are at this.
LUIS
I think I found something.
Luis moves Stephens shirt up to reveal a recording device on his side.
ARGYLE
Oh shit. Rip that out right now!
Luis yanks it and it comes out, wires and all.
LUIS
It doesn’t look like it’s transmitting to anything. Just looks like a regular recorder.
ARGYLE
Can we play it?
Luis presses a button and the recording starts playing.
STEPHEN (O.S.)
This is Detective B. Hill. Date is Monday the 11th of March 2024. I have been invited by Bob Johnson to a dinner, where I suspect he has also invited another person. I believe that person is Josh Williams who was recently suspected of involvement in the recent Duncan Drug Case. I will reach the restaurant in roughly five minutes.
ARGYLE
Fast-forward it.
Luis fast-forwards the record.
BANG
BANG
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Pause. Rewind a little.
Luis rewinds and presses play.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.)
Hey what if you fucked your wife’s mum? Would your daughter miss you?
STEPHEN (O.S.)
Oh you crack me up Bobby. Honestly though, she’d miss her mum more than she’d miss me.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.)
(with a mouthful of meat) It’s tough.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.) (CONT’D)
That’s good to hear though.
STEPHEN (O.S.)
Hm, what’s good?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.)
That your daughter wouldn’t miss you as much.
STEPHEN (O.S.)
I’m confused, why is that good?
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.)
Ask Joseph.
BANG
BANG
ARGYLE
Jesus. What the fuck is wrong with Bobby.
LUIS
I mean if the guy was an officer that daughter is probably fake.
ARGYLE
I hope so. Fast forward a little.
BOB ‘BOBBY’ JOHNSON (O.S.)
You not gonna speak? You’re that pissed about your friend?
(pause)
How many times will I have to try get it through your thick skull that your friend was a pussy. A little bitch pussy —
BANG
There is a pause in the recording.
BANG
BANG
BANG
ARGYLE
Makes sense why Bobby died now.
LUIS
Was he always like that?
ARGYLE
I never met the guy but I’m gonna guess that he was.
Argyle starts ruffling through Bobby, while Luis stands up.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Nothing on Bobby. Just his wallet.
Argyle takes out the money and puts it in his pocket.
LUIS
Argyle!
ARGYLE
What? He won’t need it.
Argyle says as he shrugs.
LUIS
Is there anything else we need here?
ARGYLE
I honestly don’t know. We’ll keep the recording, but I’m not a fed, I don’t know what to do in this situation. I guess we’ll see if there’s anything about O’Donnelly on the tape.
LUIS
Who?
ARGYLE
This fucker —
Argyle points at Stephen.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Was supposedly snitching to O’Donnelly, it’s why Bobby wanted him dead. But I guess Stephen was just a cop.
They stand looking at the bodies. Argyle’s head cocks.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Actually I might know where to find Joseph.
LUIS
So we’re not going to do anything else here?
ARGYLE
Nah, we’re not gonna get paid for this stuff. Hmm. Yeah I think I know where to go. Come.
Argyle starts walking towards the doors. Luis looks at the bodies one last time as he walks away with the recording in hand.
CUT TO:
EXT. LIAM’S HOUSE — MONDAY EVENING
Argyle and Luis get out of the car. They start walking up to the door while talking.
ARGYLE
Oh yeah, I forgot to say, the guy’s called Liam. We saw him at the pub earlier.
LUIS
Oh I think I remember him. Just before we left right?
ARGYLE
Exactly.
They reach the door. Argyle presses the doorbell. They wait a few seconds. The door opens.
KATHERINE
Argyle! How are you?
Katherine says with a smile.
ARGYLE
Hey Mrs. Richards.
Argyle also has a smile on his face.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
This is my friend Luis. He’s working with me on a job.
KATHERINE
It’s nice to meet you Luis.
She hugs him. Luis looks back at Argyle who’s grinning at him with his arms crossed.
KATHERINE (CONT’D)
Come in, come in. We’re just having dinner.
Katherine goes in and Argyle and Luis follow.
INT. LIAM’S HOUSE
Katherine leads the pair into the dining room. Liam is sat at a table with two kids. The children are young around ten. One girl, one boy. The girl is the eldest.
LIAM
Argyle, what’s the occasion?
ARGYLE
I’m afraid work Liam.
KATHERINE
Would you two like to join us?
ARGYLE
Oh I’m not sure if we have time to eat but we could stay for a bit, can’t we Luis.
Argyle nudges Luis softly.
LUIS
Yes, yeah we could stay for a bit.
LIAM
Sit, sit. What is it you need?
ARGYLE
Well, we need to find someone called Joseph. Do you know who that is?
The children eat unbothered by Argyle’s and Luis’ presence. Luis looks at one of the kids who looks up at him and then down to continue eating. Luis is confused at the kids ignorance but doesn’t question it.
LIAM
Joseph? Do you remember a Joseph honey?
Katherine thinks for a moment.
KATHERINE
(happily)
Yes! He has a girlfriend. I sent her a card last year. We got a card back I think. I’ll go look for it.
LIAM
Thank you dear.
Katherine gets up and leaves the room. Liam goes back to his meal.
LUIS
Is your wife involved in this business too?
ARGYLE
Luis shushh.
LIAM
No, no it’s fine.
Liam gestures towards Argyle.
LIAM (CONT’D)
She is. We’ve done many jobs together. It’s how we met actually.
LUIS
Oh that’s really sweet actually.
LIAM
Thank you.
Liam smiles. He keeps eating.
LIAM (CONT’D)
So what do you need with Joseph?
ARGYLE
We have to “take care” of him.
Luis looks at Argyle and then to the children.
LUIS
The kids.
Luis gestures to them.
LIAM
Don’t you worry they don’t know what you’re talking about. And they don’t care either. What did Joseph do?
ARGYLE
He killed Bobby.
Liam raises his eyebrows.
LIAM
Bob Bobby?
ARGYLE
Yeah.
LIAM
He should know better.
ARGYLE
Probably but there’s nothing that can be about it now. He also may have been involved with O’Donnelly. Bobby I mean
LIAM
O’Donnelly? Hm. That’s not good. You don’t think Joseph was hired by O’Donnelly to kill Bobby do you?
LUIS
We didn’t think of that.
LIAM
I know someone who works for O’Donnelly, they’re friendly.
Liam pulls out a pen and starts writing on a piece of paper.
LIAM (CONT’D)
Call them, it could be useful.
ARGYLE
We will.
Liam keeps eating his meal. Katherine walks back in holding a letter.
KATHERINE
Here, look the return address.
ARGYLE
Thank you so much Mrs. Richards.
Argyle takes the letter from Katherine. Katherine goes to sit down. She is ready to continue with her meal now.
KATHERINE
It should be the return address.
ARGYLE
Thank you.
LIAM
Are you sure you two don’t want anything to eat?
ARGYLE
We’re sure. We gotta rush anyway.
LIAM
Okay then. Good luck to you both.
Both Argyle and Luis stand up.
ARGYLE
Again thank you guys so much.
KATHERINE
Anytime dear.
Katherine smiles at Argyle. Argyle nudges Luis. Luis looks at Argyle then back to Liam and Katherine.
LUIS
Thank you.
Liam nods and Katherine keeps smiling. Argyle and Luis walk out of the out and shut the door.
KATHERINE
They’re going to take care of Joseph, right?
LIAM
Yeah.
KATHERINE
It’s a real shame, Joseph’s girlfriend was always quite sweet.
LIAM
I know. It sucks, but Joseph did something wrong.
Katherine nods. The couple eat alone with their children.
CUT TO:
EXT. LIAM’S HOUSE
Argyle and Luis get into Argyle’s car and drive off.
CUT TO:
EXT. LUCILLE’S FLAT BLOCK — MONDAY EVENING
A car drives down the street. Pulling into a parking space. Joseph gets out of the car. Joseph runs into the block of flats.
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE
Lucille hears the doorbell. It is being rung rapidly. She is in the shower. The doorbell keeps being rung. She pokes her head out from behind the shower curtain. She thinks she hears something. She stops the shower, and hopes out, wrapping a towel around her. Lucille has a French accent.
She walks to the front door and opens it to see Joseph panting and pressing the button.
LUCILLE
Joseph, what is the problem? Is everything okay?
JOSEPH
Are you alone?
Joseph grabs Lucille by the arms and moves her to the side. He closes the door. He walks into the flat looking around. He checks the windows in the main section of the flat. He looks behind everything.
LUCILLE
What do you mean? Of course I’m alone. I was taking a shower.
JOSEPH
You’re sure? No one came in while you were in there.
LUCILLE
Non.
Joseph walks into the bedroom and checks under the bed. He opens the wardrobes and looks behind curtains. He checks that all the windows are not. Not saying a word at all.
LUCILLE (CONT’D)
Mon chéri? What are you doing?
Joseph looks around stressed. Lucille hugs him from behind. She holds him tight.
LUCILLE (CONT’D)
Joseph, everything is okay. I’m worried.
Joseph turns around slowly. He looks lovingly into her eyes. She gets on the tip of her toes to kiss him. They kiss. Joseph pulls back.
JOSEPH
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you worried.
LUCILLE
Sit.
Lucille sits on the bed. She pulls Joseph softly down to her.
LUCILLE (CONT’D)
Tell me what’s wrong.
JOSEPH
I fucked up. I did something I shouldn’t have and now they want to kill me.
LUCILLE
Your boss?
JOSEPH
Yes. You’re not safe here. They’ll be coming.
Lucille looks into Joseph’s eyes.
LUCILLE
Are you sure?
JOSEPH
Yes.
LUCILLE
Okay. What do you need me to do?
JOSEPH
Can you go stay with your mother until I figure this out?
LUCILLE
Yes, I can do that.
JOSEPH
Thank god. I got to go soon. I can’t stay at all. I’m sorry but promise me you’ll be gone by midnight.
LUCILLE
I promise mon chéri. I’ll start packing now.
JOSEPH
Thank you.
Joseph kisses her.
LUCILLE
What are you going to do?
JOSEPH
I’m going to see a friend. Hopefully he can tell me more about what the fuck is going on.
LUCILLE
Okay. Be safe. Don’t do anything stupid.
JOSEPH
I won’t.
Joseph stands up. Lucille stands up too. Joseph is about to walk out of the room when Lucille holds him and hugs him once more.
LUCILLE
I’m serious. Be safe. I’ll call you when I’m at my mums house. Take a key encase you need to come back.
JOSEPH
I will.
They kiss one final time before Joseph leaves the room. Lucille hears the door shut from the bedroom. She sits back down and fiddles with an engagement ring on her finger. She tears up slightly before wiping the tears away.
CUT TO:
INT. JOSEPH’S CAR — MONDAY NIGHT
Joseph starts his engine. He takes out a burner phone and calls someone.
JOSEPH
Hey, Marvin, where are you?
He pauses.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Are you alone? Can I come to you?
He pauses.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
But is it safe?
He pauses.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Okay I’ll pick you up then. See you in 15.
Joseph reverses out of the parking spot and starts driving down the street. His radio is on.
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Marvin is standing on the corner of a street. Alone on the pavement. Joseph pulls up. The window is down.
MARVIN
Motherfucker it is cold, and you got me up on the corner like some damned hooker.
JOSEPH
Sorry Marv.
MARVIN
(mimics)
Sorry Marv.
Marvin opens the door and gets into the car.
MARVIN (CONT’D)
(jokingly)
So whatchu want? I can give you a handy for a fiver, or a blowy for a tenner.
Marvin acts out the “handy” and also the “blowy” when he mentions them.
Joseph looks over at Marvin. Marvin starts laughing.
JOSEPH
Do you want me to leave you on the corner?
MARVIN
Ahh c’mon man I’m just playing. You know that.
Joseph starts driving off.
JOSEPH
You don’t have a gun do you?
MARVIN
Whatchu mean?
Joseph leans over whilst driving and starts patting down Marvin’s pockets.
MARVIN (CONT’D)
Motherfucker get off me, the fuck are you doing? Tryna give me the handy instead?
JOSEPH
I’m just being cautious.
MARVIN
I’m your friend, damn.
(jokingly)
Frankly, I’m insulted by this crude mistreatment.
Marvin starts tutting.
JOSEPH
You get why though right?
MARVIN
Yeah I know man. Everybody and their aunt are talking about you. You done fucked up badddd.
JOSEPH
What do you know about the hit?
MARVIN
200K I heard.
JOSEPH
200K? Oh fuck.
MARVIN
Fuck indeed.
JOSEPH
Do you know who’s been put on the hit?
MARVIN
On the hit? Nah. I heard it’s one person, I’ve also heard it’s more. So I really don’t know.
JOSEPH
I think I’m going to try talk to Frank, maybe talk him out of it.
MARVIN
Joe are you stupid?
JOSEPH
What?
MARVIN
Are you stupid? There’s no reasoning with Frank. This isn’t his decision. He wouldn’t do you like that, he practically sucks you off.
JOSEPH
I think it’s worth a shot. Also how else am I going to find out who’s after me?
MARVIN
Well you’re not going to find out from Frank either way. He’s not in the pub.
JOSEPH
What?
MARVIN
Yeah he’s gone. The pub’s closed completely. No one in or out. I heard he’s not coming back till Wednesday or something but I don’t know.
JOSEPH
Is anyone watching the place?
MARVIN
Shiiiit probably but fuck if I know.
JOSEPH
I need to know though.
MARVIN
Hmmm. How about Charles?
JOSEPH
Charles? The jeweller?
MARVIN
Yeah man. He’s close enough with Frank ain’t he? He would probably know who’s after you. Do you have a gun?
Joseph is about to say “no” but Marvin keeps talking.
MARVIN (CONT’D)
Actually doesn’t matter. He’s not a fighter. You could probably beat him with your fists. You know where he is right?
JOSEPH
Yeah I know.
MARVIN
Go to him then.
Marvin looks outside.
MARVIN (CONT’D)
Drop me off down there.
JOSEPH
There?
MARVIN
Yeah man. Call me again if you need anything.
JOSEPH
I will. Thank you Marvin.
MARVIN
Of course man. I gotchu.
Joseph pulls over and Marvin opens the door. Marvin gets out and closes the door. Joseph quickly drives off.
CUT TO:
INT. THE JEWELLERY STORE — MONDAY NIGHT
Charles is sat in his office. The lights to most of the store are off. Only the light in his office is on. He is inspecting a diamond ring. Marking things on a sheet. Then moving onto the next diamond ring.
He hears the screech of tires coming from outside. Then a car stopping but the engine still running. The door to his office is open. From the opening he can see the beams of light coming from the front of the car. He hears the front door of his store break, the sounds of breaking glass. An alarm starts ringing.
He looks nervous. He slowly opens a drawer in his desk and scuffles through some papers to find a revolver. He pulls the revolver out slowly and gets up, trying his best not to make any noise. He creeps over to the door to his office, whilst holding his gun. He peers out, aiming his gun in the direction of the front door. He creeps down the hallway towards the front of the store. He reaches out flicking on the lights.
A copper pipe comes into frame, pressing against Charles’ head. The pipe is of similar shape to a gun barrel. Charles’ face sinks as he feels the cold metal.
JOSEPH
Hey Charlie. Drop the gun slowly and kick it backwards.
Charles bends over slowly and places down the gun. He comes up again facing away from Joseph and not seeing that he doesn’t actually have a gun. He nudges the gun back towards Joseph.
CHARLES
The police will be here soon, can’t you here the alarm.
JOSEPH
We both know that alarm does nothing. You wouldn’t want the police to come and see all the illegal shit you’ve got here. Now take two steps forward.
Charles moves forwards and Joseph bends over to pick up the revolver.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Why does everyone have revolvers?
Joseph cocks the gun. Charles is more scared.
CHARLES
Please don’t hurt me.
JOSEPH
If you don’t fuck up here then you won’t get hurt. But be careful Charlie.
CHARLES
It’s Charles.
JOSEPH
I don’t care. Turn around. Come towards me.
Joseph takes a couple steps backwards and Charles comes forwards.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Go into your office.
Charles turns into his office.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Keep those hands high up.
Charles walks into his office and Joseph follows with the gun point at his head.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Sit in your chair.
Charles sits down in the chair. Joseph stays standing.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Who’s doing the hit?
CHARLES
What hit?
JOSEPH
The hit on me.
CHARLES
I don’t know.
JOSEPH
Oh Charlie really? Is that how you want to act?
CHARLES
I swear I don’t know anything, I haven’t heard from anyone in a few days.
JOSEPH
Now I know that’s not true. Because I was told by “someone” that they had spoken to you today.
Charles looks guilty. Joseph is lying about being told by someone and so emphasises “someone”.
CHARLES
Freddie told you?
JOSEPH
No.
CHARLES
Huh? I’m confused.
JOSEPH
Stand up.
Charles stands up.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Move there.
Joseph points at a spot next to Charles desk where Joseph is able to see Charles whole body.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Do you still know nothing about the hit? Or did Freddie talk to you about nothing?
CHARLES
(scared)
Freddie just came to pawn some gold! I swear!
JOSEPH
(disappointed)
Ah you motherfucker.
Joseph shoots Charles in the foot.
BANG
Charles screams and falls to the floor, clutching his foot.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
(surprised but happy)
Oh shit you actually have real rounds here!
Joseph opens the gun chamber to see if the rest of the bullets are there.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Five more bullets Charlie. Where do you want them?
Charles is crying on the floor.
CHARLES
(pleading)
I don’t want them! Please! Don’t shoot me!
Joseph walks over to Charles and puts his foot on Charles’ chest. He points the gun at Charles’ face.
JOSEPH
Open your eyes.
Charles sees the gun and keeps screaming.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Jesus Christ. You’re gonna alert the neighbours, goddamn. Stop whining, please. You’re going to make my ears bleed.
Joseph looks at the floor to see Charles has pissed himself.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Ah for fucks sake. Charlie, do you want to tell me anything at all. No one has to know but us.
Charles keeps crying.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Fine.
Joseph cocks the gun again. He aims at Charles other foot. He shoots.
BANG
Charles screams even more.
CHARLES
(screaming)
MY OTHER FOOT????? WHY??????
JOSEPH
Cause you weren’t saying anything.
CHARLES
I’M IN SHOCK BITCH.
JOSEPH
Hey, hey, hey, hey, don’t call me bitch.
CHARLES
FUCK YOU!
JOSEPH
God you’re actually holding up better than I thought.
Joseph notices a photo on Charles’ desk. Charles isn’t paying attention to Joseph. It’s a photo of Charles’ wife. Joseph flips over the photo. It says: “Love your girl, Audrey”, along with a drawn heart. He puts down the photo. He grabs a chair and drags it towards Charles. He points the gun at Charles again.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Charles. If you don’t help me here then I’ll have to see if Audrey can help me.
CHARLES
(through tears)
What? You wouldn’t!
JOSEPH
Why not? Maybe fuck her while I’m at it seeing as she hasn’t had sex with a real man if we’re basing it off you.
CHARLES
Stay away from her!!
JOSEPH
Then tell me who’s after me. It’s so simple. I politely asked.
Joseph shrugs.
CHARLES
Fine! It’s Argyle!
JOSEPH
What’s their last name?
CHARLES
I don’t know! No one uses there last name! Please don’t go to my wife! Please!
JOSEPH
Jesus this is just sad now.
Joseph throws the gun on Charles. Charles screams because of it.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Just because I didn’t kill you, doesn’t mean Frank won’t. If you want a way out there you go.
Joseph leaves the office, lighting a cigarette, as Charles tries to pick up the revolver, screaming. He doesn’t pick it up in time as Joseph is already at the store door.
He walks through the broken glass door and walks towards his car.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
(to himself, confused)
Who the fuck is Argyle?
CUT TO:
INT. LUCILLE’S FLAT BLOCK — HALLWAY — MONDAY NIGHT
Cut to Argyle, panning out to see Luis too. They are walking down the hallway towards Lucille’s door.
LUIS
Do you think it’s weird that Marzia hasn’t called yet?
ARGYLE
What? Absolutely not. She just doesn’t want to seem desperate. I’m sure that you’ll get called tomorrow. Fuck it you’ll definitely get called tomorrow, why wouldn’t she want to go out with you? You’re cute, funny,
(he smirks)
Sexy.
Luis smiles.
LUIS
Thanks.
ARGYLE
Don’t worry about it, she’ll call. She definitely thinks calling you today would make her seem too needy.
LUIS
Really?
ARGYLE
I mean I would call her if I was you but I know you don’t have her number.
LUIS
But that would make you seem desperate.
ARGYLE
Bitch I don’t care about that shit. If I like a girl, I like a girl, so Ima talk to her, simple as. I’m not for that weird “let’s wait twelve hours to reply with one word” shit. You know that.
LUIS
You’re right.
ARGYLE
Of course I am. Anyway, this is us.
The pair look up at the door. They both knock.
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE
Lucille walks over to her door and peers through the keyhole. Both Argyle and Luis are looking at the door. Luis turns to Argyle, but Argyle stays focused on the keyhole.
LUIS
Maybe she’s not in?
ARGYLE
She is. The light changed in the keyhole. She’s definitely looking at us.
Argyle waves stupidly/comically. Lucille quickly moves from the keyhole.
ARGYLE (O.S.) (CONT’D)
See the light changed again. Now she’s moved away. She’s there.
LUIS (O.S.)
You’re sure?
ARGYLE (O.S.)
Positive. Wanna kick it down?
LUIS (O.S.)
Yeah I guess.
Lucille looks shocked. She quickly opens the door.
ARGYLE
Well hey there little lady. How are you this fine night?
Argyle smiles. Lucille seems more deadpan.
LUIS
May we come in?
LUCILLE
Why?
LUIS
So we can talk.
ARGYLE
Is your boyfriend Joseph in there?
LUCILLE
No I haven’t seen him in a couple of days.
ARGYLE
You’re sure?
LUCILLE
Yes I’m sure. You look familiar have with met?
ARGYLE
Me?
LUCILLE
Non. You.
She points at Luis.
LUIS
I don’t think we’ve met, no.
ARGYLE
Well we’re coming in.
LUCILLE
No you can’t.
Argyle pushes the door open and walks into the flat.
LUIS
I’m sorry about him. We’ll be gone soon.
LUCILLE
I swear I don’t know where Joseph is.
Argyle walks into the bedroom.
ARGYLE (O.S.)
Oh you don’t know huh?
Argyle is hard to hear from the bedroom.
LUIS
(shouting)
HUH?
Argyle comes out of the bedroom and into the hallway.
ARGYLE
If you don’t know where he is why are you packing to leave?
LUCILLE
Because he’s been gone a few days and I am scared.
ARGYLE
Of what?
LUCILLE
Of people like you coming to me to, how you say, “take care of” me.
Luis and Argyle both look dumbfounded.
LUIS
Sorry miss, you really don’t know where he is?
LUCILLE
Non and I don’t feel safe at home alone at night so I’m going to stay with my family.
LUIS
Okay. Could you just give us a moment to talk?
LUCILLE
Of course. Do you want a drink?
LUIS
Sure?
LUCILLE
Go to the kitchen. Help yourself. I’m going to the bathroom.
LUIS
Okay, uhm thanks.
ARGYLE
One last thing. Did Joseph ever mention a person called O’Donnelly?
LUCILLE
Non.
Lucille walks off into the bathroom. Luis and Argyle walk into the kitchen. Argyle pours himself a shot of vodka.
LUIS
Do you believe her?
Argyle offers a shot of vodka to Luis. Luis gestures “no” to the drink.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Not right now.
Argyle takes the shot.
ARGYLE
I mean kinda yeah. She seems done with Joseph somehow, like he’s disappeared before and didn’t bother telling her.
LUIS
Fuck what if this isn’t even the same girlfriend that Liam and Katherine where talking about.
ARGYLE
Shit maybe —
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE — BATHROOM
Lucille is searching in the sink cupboard. She pulls out a gun.
ARGYLE (O.S.)
You could be right here. I mean even if she knew I doubt she would tell us.
LUIS (O.S.)
Really? I think she might, but I really don’t know.
Lucille is putting bullets into the chambers. She cocks the gun.
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE
ARGYLE
Let’s just leave. I can’t be asked to work this late with no leads.
LUIS
Whatever happened to 200K is 200K?
ARGYLE
I need sleep man, not lectures. I’m tired as fuck, if we really need, we can come back and search the place when she’s gone.
LUIS
Okay, I agree.
Argyle takes another shot of vodka and walks down the hallway to the door. Luis follows him. He knocks on the door of the bathroom, where Lucille is ready to come out with a gun.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Thank you, we’re leaving.
Luis walks to Argyle. Lucille opens the door, hiding the gun behind her back. Argyle spots her. He waves. She waves back with her left hand, holding the gun in the right hand behind her back. Luis shuts the door behind him.
INT. LUCILLE’S FLAT BLOCK — HALLWAY
The pair walk away from Lucille’s flat.
ARGYLE
She had a gun.
LUIS
How do you know.
ARGYLE
Her right arm. She opened the door with her righthand. But suddenly waves with her left. Plus she hid her right hand behind her back. She had a gun.
LUIS
We’re lucky then.
ARGYLE
Yep. More importantly though, I need a shit.
LUIS
Didn’t need to know buddy.
ARGYLE
But you wanted to.
CUT TO:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT — TUESDAY MORNING
Luis is lying in bed. His apartment is the smallest out of everyone elses’ in this story. He doesn’t technically have a bedroom. His bed is in the open area of his flat which is connected to his kitchen. Light breaks through his curtains onto his face. His phone starts ringing. Luis wakes up and turns over to his phone.
LUIS
Shut up!
Luis grabs his phone and chucks it across the room. It stops ringing just to start ringing again moments later.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Oh my fucking god.
Luis gets up and walks to the phone. He is only wearing underwear. He picks up his phone and answers it.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Marzia? Hi. No it’s a good time. How are you?
Luis walks out of his bedroom to his kitchen. He opens the fridge and takes out a glass he pours himself some juice.
LUIS (CONT’D)
No I’ve been up for a bit, seriously it’s fine.
Luis chuckles a bit.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Yes I’m sure. What’s up?
CUT TO:
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT
Marzia is on the phone in the bathroom. She sets the phone down and puts it on speaker.
MARZIA
Actually I was wondering if you wanted to go out today.
Marzia starts putting cream on her face.
LUIS (O.S.)
Yeah I could definitely go out today. What time?
Marzia keeps applying.
MARZIA
I was thinking maybe 7? Is that a good time for you?
CUT TO:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT
Luis takes a bowl out and pours some milk into it. He grabs a box of cereal. His phone is also set on the counter and put on speaker.
LUIS
7 is perfect. Where do you want to meet?
MARZIA (O.S.)
Oh, uhm, I’m never good at this but I was thinking we could meet at Soho. There’s a good bun place there.
CUT TO:
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT
Marzia is putting on make-up now.
LUIS (O.S.)
That’s good.
MARZIA
I’ll see you at Leicester Square station, okay? At 7?
Marzia is focusing on herself in the mirror.
LUIS (O.S.)
Absolutely. See you then.
MARZIA
Bye.
Marzia hangs up.
CUT TO:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT
Luis picks up his phone to hang up, then puts his phone down. Then he can be excited.
LUIS
(to himself)
Fuck yes!! Oh my lord!
Luis smiles while he puts a spoonful of cereal into his mouth. His phone starts ringing again. Luis looks at it perplexed. He picks it up and without thinking answers.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Hey Marzia is everything okay?
ARGYLE (O.S.)
(shouting so loud sound comes out of the phone)
BOY GET YO ARSE OVER HERE! WE GOT WORK!
LUIS
Stop being so loud it’s too early Argyle.
ARGYLE (O.S.)
Does my princess need his beauty sleep?
LUIS
Ah shut up Argyle. Tell me where you’re at.
Luis takes another spoonful of cereal.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE JEWELLERY STORE — TUESDAY MORNING
Luis walks up to the jewellery store. Argyle walks out of the broken glass door. He walks through tape, throwing it onto the ground.
LUIS
What did you find out?
ARGYLE
Charles told Joseph my name, but said that was it. Said Joseph said he was going to fuck his wife if he didn’t cooperate.
LUIS
The fuck?
ARGYLE
I mean that’s clearly a joke from Joseph’s side. I don’t know why Charles was so butt-hurt.
LUIS
Are you seriously taking the side of the guy we’re trying to kill?
ARGYLE
No but I’m not gonna take the side of Charles. Motherfucka ratted on me and I can’t even do nothing cause he got shot in both feet. Actual one shot was in the ankle.
LUIS
He got shot in the feet?
ARGYLE
Yeahhh, I don’t know what Joseph was thinking. But the foot that got shot through the ankle is like floppy now.
LUIS
What do you mean?
ARGYLE
The bone is missing, or like disintegrated or something like that. He’ll never be able to use it like it was before.
LUIS
Damn.
ARGYLE
You’re damn right damn. Anyway, we can leave there’s nothing else here.
LUIS
Where we going?
ARGYLE
I called the number Liam gave us. We’re going to meet the associate.
LUIS
The O’Donnelly one?
ARGYLE
Yep. They’re called Fletcher.
LUIS
Oh by the way I got a date with Marzia tonight at 7.
ARGYLE
Oh shit, no way! That’s great man. Hopefully we’ll be done with our work then.
LUIS
Hopefully.
They get into Argyle’s car.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY NOON
Argyle and Luis drive underneath a bridge along the Thames. It is remote and no one else is there except for one other car. They park next to the car. A woman is leaning against the other car. Argyle and Luis get out.
ARGYLE
You Fletcher?
FLETCHER
What’s your name?
ARGYLE
Argyle.
FLETCHER
Then I’m Fletcher.
Fletcher takes out a box of cigarettes and takes one out.
FLETCHER (CONT’D)
You got a light?
ARGYLE
No sorry.
Fletcher looks over to Luis and raises her eyebrows, as if to ask him the same question.
LUIS
Nope sorry.
FLETCHER
Well shit.
ARGYLE
Did you find out what I asked about?
FLETCHER
Yeah I did.
She puts the cigarette back into the box.
FLETCHER (CONT’D)
O’Donnelly was looking into Bobby, apparently Bobby was doing shit he wasn’t meant to. You know, running his mouth to the wrong people.
LUIS
Maybe Bobby knew Stephen was police and that’s why he killed him, to clear his name to O’Donnelly.
ARGYLE
That would only work if O’Donnelly knew Stephen was a fed too.
FLETCHER
I don’t know if O’Donnelly knew there was a cop. Only that Bobby was hanging around the wrong people. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told.
ARGYLE
Do you think O’Donnelly would’ve put a hit out on Bobby?
FLETCHER
I didn’t hear anything of it, and no one else seems to know, but yeah, he easily could’ve.
ARGYLE
Okay thanks. And you haven’t heard about anyone called Joseph?
FLETCHER
Not a peep.
Argyle nods.
ARGYLE
Okay well, call me if you hear anything new.
FLETCHER
Yeah I will. I’ll leave first, you lot stay for a bit.
Argyle and Luis nod. Fletcher gets into her car and drives away.
LUIS
That didn’t help too much.
ARGYLE
No but at least we know Bobby was doing the wrong shit. We’re going to have to tell Frank.
LUIS
How come?
ARGYLE
Well what if O’Donnelly did hire someone and we’re the ones who kill his man? I doubt we’d do well for ourselves if we didn’t tell Frank. At least then Frank will be able to protect us a little.
LUIS
Alright then, I trust you.
Argyle pulls out his phone and dials a number.
ARGYLE
Can we meet?
He pauses.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Okay we’ll be there.
LUIS
Everything good?
ARGYLE
Yep, we gotta go quick though we’re getting picked up.
They both get into their car and drive off.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Argyle and Luis are standing away from their car in a random street. A car pulls up.
ARGYLE
This is us.
Argyle opens the back-passenger door and gets in. Luis gets in after him.
EXT. ALAN’S FRONT — TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Alan’s Front is a large building, built for events of all occasions. It functions as a nightclub, run on the day to day by Phil but also doubles for any organization meet-ups. There is a back entrance. The car drives around the back and parks in front of a double-door entrance. Luis gets out first, then Argyle. The double-doors open. Frank is standing there.
FRANK
Argyle. Good to see you lad.
ARGYLE
And you boss.
FRANK
Who’s this?
Frank says talking about Luis.
ARGYLE
It’s my friend, Luis, you saw him at the pub yesterday.
FRANK
Oh yeah.
Frank reaches out his hand and shakes Luis’.
ARGYLE
He’s just helping me with this.
FRANK
You known each other long?
LUIS
Since childhood.
FRANK
You been in the system before?
LUIS
Yeah. Petty theft.
FRANK
Alright. You’ll have to stay outside I’m afraid.
LUIS
Yeah that’s fine.
Frank turns and walks into the building.
ARGYLE
Sorry man.
LUIS
Don’t worry about it. I’ll see you later.
Argyle nods and quickly follows after Frank. Luis goes and leans against the side of the car. The driver is now also standing against the car.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
Frank leads Argyle to the main hall. Alan is sat at a booth eating. Phil is sat next to him, his meal finished.
FRANK
This is Argyle. The one on the Joseph hit.
Phil gets up and puts out his hand.
PHIL
Hello Argyle.
Argyle and Phil shake hands. Alan keeps eating. He looks up at Argyle. He looks down. He is eating meat. He cuts up a piece and puts it into his mouth. Phil sits back down. Frank sits on a nearby stool. Argyle is about to sit on a stool.
ALAN
Stay standing boy. You kill Joseph yet?
Alan keeps eating, not bothering to look Argyle in the eye.
ARGYLE
Not yet sir, no.
ALAN
Then why are you here? You want to waste my time? Do I look like a man with much free time?
ARGYLE
No sir.
Alan keeps eating. He takes a swig of wine from a glass. Argyle stands confused and nervous.
ALAN
Speak. Go on. Tell me why you’re here.
ARGYLE
I spoke to someone about O’Donnelly. It’s possible he put a hit out on Bobby and hired Joseph.
Alan stops eating. He looks up at Argyle, who is now even more nervous.
ALAN
You’re serious? Who told you?
ARGYLE
A person called Fletcher.
ALAN
Fletcher, Fletcher, Fletcher. Which one was Fletcher again Phil?
PHIL
Woman. Mid-Thirties.
Phil looks at Alan. Alan seems confused, with no clue of who Fletcher is.
PHIL (CONT’D)
You slept with her on New Years Eve.
Argyle’s face turns to disgust because of how old Alan is compared to Fletcher, but quickly disappears after he realises where he is.
ALAN
Ah I remember her now. That sexy little girl, yeah. She’s trustworthy.
Alan takes another bite of meat.
ARGYLE
Stephen also had a wire on him.
Argyle pulls out the recorder from his pocket and hands it over to Phil.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
He was a fed.
Alan speaks with a mouthful of meat.
ALAN
Okay. I’m not so surprised O’Donnelly is involved is involved now. Feds probably want to catch his arse for something. It’s better Joseph dies sooner rather than later. I don’t want to take any chances. Can you still do that boy?
ARGYLE
Yes sir.
ALAN
Good. You can go now.
ARGYLE
Yes sir.
Alan now pays full attention to his meal. Phil nods at Argyle. Frank stands up and leads Argyle away from the booth.
FRANK
Come, this way.
EXT. ALAN’S FRONT
The driver is smoking next to Luis.
DRIVER SCOTT
Sorry I forgot to offer, do you want one mate?
LUIS
Nah I’m good don’t worry. I don’t smoke.
DRIVER SCOTT
You sure. This shits good.
LUIS
Nah I’m afraid of cancer and all that.
DRIVER SCOTT
Fair enough.
The double-doors open and Frank comes out with Argyle.
FRANK
Scott drive them back.
DRIVER SCOTT
Yes boss.
The driver finishes his cigarette and throws it on the ground, stamping it out.
FRANK
Don’t follow up on O’Donnelly Argyle. Just focus on Joseph.
ARGYLE
Will do.
FRANK
Be safe you two.
ARGYLE
Thanks Frank.
Luis opens the door to the car and gets in. Argyle gets in after him. Frank slams the double-doors.
CUT TO:
INT. BEN’S GUN ALCOVE — TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Joseph slams the door to the room as he enters. Ben is a friend of Joseph, a neutral guns salesman. Ben is older than Joseph, around fifty.
Ben clears a table in the middle of the closed off room. There are no windows and only a single, hanging, tungsten light directly over the table. The room is filled with boxes across shelfs which reach the ceiling.
The floor is covered in loose case-shellings and more boxes holding guns and other weapons.
BEN
Do you know what it is you’re looking for?
JOSEPH
9mm is good. I’ve been stuck with using revolvers the whole of yesterday.
BEN
Revolvers? Alright.
Ben picks up a box.
BEN (CONT’D)
Hand me that there crowbar would ya?
JOSEPH
Yeah of course.
Joseph hands over the crowbar. Ben pries open the box to reveal freshly new 9mm pistols stuffed with shredded cardboard packaging.
BEN
I’ll do you 250 for just the gun and empty magazine.
JOSEPH
Is each full magazine still 50?
BEN
For you, yes. Is this another throw away?
JOSEPH
No. I need something to keep.
BEN
Something to keep? Well I have some decorative ones. Would you be interested in that, or is the plain fine?
JOSEPH
Decorative might be nice actually. Can I see them?
BEN
Absolutely, just give me a hand.
JOSEPH
Yeah sure. Which box?
Ben points to a box up at the ceiling.
BEN
That one.
Joseph gets on a step-ladder and reaches for the box. He takes it down and places it on the table. Ben opens the box. Inside are two decorative 9mm pistols, with engravings on them.
BEN (CONT’D)
I’ll do you 600 for both pistols, full magazines and an extra 4 full magazines.
JOSEPH
I’ll do that.
BEN
Perfect.
Ben starts filling up 6 magazines. He puts two in the decorative guns, and then the rest into the box. While he does this, Joseph keeps speaking.
JOSEPH
Do you have shotguns?
BEN
Shotguns? You’ve never wanted that. Is something up?
JOSEPH
I got people tailing me. Actually if anyone comes in here asking for me could you let me know?
BEN
Yeah of course. Which shotgun then?
JOSEPH
Just a regular pump action I guess. I don’t know much about them. Also can I leave my car here? Just for a couple days or so? I don’t want to be spotted.
Ben walks over to the side of the room. He opens a box with a loose lid. He pulls out a shotgun with a box of shotgun shells.
BEN
Yeah that’s fine. Here. That’ll be 400.
JOSEPH
Oh perfect. I have this.
Joseph pulls out his 100g gold bar from Monday.
BEN
That’s more than a thousand, I know that.
JOSEPH
Consider it a down payment for the future, as well as payment for the car.
BEN
Alright.
Ben takes the gold bar from Joseph. Joseph picks up the box of guns, and takes the shotgun, holding the box of bullets with the box of 9mm pistols.
JOSEPH
I’ll be back soon.
BEN
Take care. I’ll lock up when you leave.
JOSEPH
Cool, thanks Ben.
BEN
Anytime Joseph, anytime.
Joseph leaves the room.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Joseph is walking on the pavement. He is smoking. He turns into an alley. He moves his coat out of the way revealing four magazines at his belt and the two 9mms in shoulder holsters on each side.
Joseph takes one gun out and opens the magazine. He gets that the gun is all in order and looks up at a fire escape.
He throws his cigarette onto the floor and stamps it out. He jumps up and starts climbing the ladder.
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — ROOFTOP
Joseph walks across a few rooftops before reaching Frank’s Pub. He sees it and slowly comes down trying not to be spotted.
EXT. FRANK’S PUB — BACK ALLEY
Joseph goes to the same side-door he was at the previous day. He picks the lock and goes inside. His gun in hand.
INT. FRANK’S PUB
All the lights are off. Joseph stays quiet and goes into Frank’s office. He takes out a little flashlight and shines it around the room. No one is there.
He puts the flashlight into his mouth, and places his gun on the desk. He starts riffling through papers and spots his invitation to the Anniversary event on Friday.
JOSEPH
(flashlight in mouth still)
Everyone together at one time.
Joseph keeps looking through the papers and finds a paper. All there is on the paper is: “Joseph” and underneath that “200K”.
Joseph looks at the number, it confirms what Marvin said to him earlier.
RATTLE
Joseph turns his head, taking his flashlight out of his mouth and quickly switching it off.
Two guards walk through the main area of the pub.
GUARD 1
He said he needed some things on his desk. We shouldn’t be too long.
GUARD 2
Do you think we can pour ourselves a drink whilst we’re at it?
GUARD 1
Come on man, be serious.
They walk towards Frank’s office. Everything seems in order. Guard 1 switches on the light and no one is there. Joseph’s gun is missing and the invitation too.
EXT. FRANK’S PUB
Joseph is walking away, his head down. He is holding the invitation. He crumbles it up and stuffs it into his pocket.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY EVENING
Argyle and Luis are dropped off by their car. As they walk to Argyle’s care Luis speaks.
LUIS
It felt weird speaking in the car, but what happened? Are we following up on O’Donnelly?
ARGYLE
No. Frank said to drop it more or less. Just to focus on Joseph.
LUIS
Remember I have the date with Marzia tonight.
ARGYLE
Yeah I know lover-boy. Look at you getting so excited. You’re gonna be real smooth huh?
Argyle smirks and laughs. They get into his car.
LUIS
Well I am excited. We’re meeting at Leicester Square Station.
ARGYLE
Very fancy. Is she gonna pay?
LUIS
We’ll probably split?
ARGYLE
Nah, nah, nah, she invited you out so she’s gotta pay. That’s dating courtesy 101.
Argyle starts the engine. Music starts playing quietly.
LUIS
We’ll see. Anyway, what are you going to do then tonight?
ARGYLE
I’ll follow up on some things. Maybe see if I can find out more about Joseph’s friends or something. Where do you want me to drop you off? Your place?
LUIS
Yeah my place please.
Argyle pulls out completely and starts driving, the music getting louder as he does.
CUT TO:
EXT. LEICESTER SQUARE STATION — TUESDAY EVENING
Luis walks out of the station. Marzia waves him down.
MARZIA
Luis! Hey!
LUIS
Hey!
Luis walks up to her with a smile on his face. They kiss each others’ cheeks.
LUIS (CONT’D)
We’re all set?
MARZIA
Yep.
They walk off towards Chinatown, through a crowd.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY EVENING
Joseph is walking through a similar crowd. His phone rings. He takes his phone out and answers it. He stops walking.
JOSEPH
Woah, woah, woah, woah, Marvin calm down.
He pauses.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Where?
He pauses again.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Okay, okay, pick me up.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Joseph opens the door of Marvin’s car and gets in. The engine is on but they are stagnant. Marvin points a gun at Joseph. Joseph notices and puts his hands up. This whole interaction is intense, Joseph is nervous and slightly scared. Marvin looks slightly crazy.
JOSEPH
Woah man. What are you doing?
MARVIN
Are you working for fucking O’Donnelly?
JOSEPH
What?
MARVIN
Answer the question motherfucka. Are you working for O’Donnelly?
Marvin presses the gun into Joseph’s face.
JOSEPH
(nervous)
No I’m not, why would you say that?
MARVIN
The fucking guy who’s after you said so to Alan and Phil.
JOSEPH
Argyle?
MARVIN
I don’t fucking know what his name is! Wait he’s called Argyle? Who the fuck is called Argyle?
JOSEPH
(slightly less nervous)
That’s what I was thinking.
MARVIN
So you’re not working for O’Donnelly?
JOSEPH
No, Marvin you know me, no. Why the fuck would I work for him? I don’t even have the slightest reason to work with him.
Marvin lowers the gun.
MARVIN
Okay fine. I’m getting loopy man.
JOSEPH
Who’s saying this?
MARVIN
Some bitch. I don’t fucking know who he is, but he told Argyle, that’s for sure. I know where he’s at right now. I didn’t think you were working for O’Donnelly, I couldn’t imagine it but I just had to make sure. I’m sorry man.
JOSEPH
It’s fine, it’s fine. Where is he? What are you thinking we do?
MARVIN
Motherfucka, I’m thinking drive-by. Teach that bitch a lesson for spreading lies. Cause he does that and then the bosses start questioning all of our loyalty. Then we’re all fucked, NOT just you. You willing to do this with me?
JOSEPH
Fuck it, of course I will. Let’s go.
Marvin drives off speedily.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Joseph and Marvin are in a parked car. Joseph is smoking out of the window.
MARVIN
There. That’s what they were wearing earlier when I was shown them.
Marvin points at a person walking on the pavement, it’s hard to see their gender. Joseph extinguishes his cigarette. They are slowly driving past. They see the person walk into an alley where there is a parked car. They get into a car. There is another person inside.
JOSEPH
(quickly)
Circle round, circle round.
They make a U-turn and start slowly driving by.
MARVIN
Take my uzi man.
Joseph cocks the uzi, he gets ready to aim. Marvin is holding Joseph’s 9mm instead. They reach the alley.
BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG
They both shoot quickly then Marvin hits the gas, speeding off.
MARVIN (CONT’D)
D’you get them? I couldn’t see jack shit.
Marvin drives through some backstreets before heading towards the alley again.
JOSEPH
I think so. The whole clip is emptied. Wait Marv, why the fuck are we going back?
MARVIN
Gotta wait to make sure they’re actually dead. What if he comes hobbling out of the car? Gotta make sure to end it man. We’ll stay hidden don’t worry.
They drive back but on the other side of the road. They park in a free spot by the pavement and stare at the alley. Nothing happens for a second.
JOSEPH
I think it’s fine —
The car starts pulling out from the alley and driving down the street.
MARVIN
Motherfucker!
JOSEPH
What the fuck?? Tail it!
MARVIN
Bitch what do you think I’m trying to do??
Marvin pulls out of the parking space and floors it again.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — TUESDAY EVENING
Luis and Marzia are walking next to each other with buns in hand.
MARZIA
Hey can I have a bite of yours?
LUIS
Yeah sure.
Luis holds the bun near her mouth. She takes a bite.
MARZIA
Oh fuck that’s good. What was that again?
LUIS
Lamb kebab.
MARZIA
Okay I’m going to need to get that next time cause its amazing.
Luis smiles at her. They keep walking through the streets of Chinatown.
LUIS
So I never actually found out. Are you and Lorenzo related?
MARZIA
Oh no. My mum is friends with his dad.
LUIS
Ah okay.
MARZIA
We haven’t gone out, if that’s what you’re asking.
LUIS
What? No, no, no. I wouldn’t mind. I’m a little surprised you actually asked me out, I didn’t think you would.
MARZIA
But a good surprise, right?
LUIS
Yes, obviously. But like I imagined Lorenzo would be all protective or something — to be honest I don’t even know what I’m saying.
Marzia chuckles a little.
MARZIA
I mean he might try tell me not to go out with you. Part of me thinks he wanted you gone cause I like you more.
LUIS
Seriously? You think he would do that?
MARZIA
I wouldn’t put it past him. He’s just that type of person.
Marzia shrugs. She finishes her bun. Luis takes notice.
LUIS
Do you want another bite?
MARZIA
(happily)
Can I?
LUIS
Yeah sure.
He smiles at her.
EXT. THAMES
They are walking on the river path. They have finished their buns and are just talking now.
LUIS
I think that’s ridiculous, I would definitely beat you in ping pong. Have seen these arms?
Luis jokingly flexes.
MARZIA
Oh really? I’ve seen you handle a pizza, I know for a fact that you would fumble completely and shoot the ping pong to the complete opposite side of the room.
LUIS
Hey, hey, hey, hey, why would I fumble it? I’m brilliant at making pizzas.
MARZIA
Luis you worked there for under two weeks and I saw you drop like 5 pizzas. Face-up too!
LUIS
Because you kept flirting with me! What do you want me to do? Stand there like a brick?
MARZIA
Okay wait, so you’re saying that if we actually played ping pong, I could just distract you that easily and then you lose.
LUIS
No that’s not what I meant, you’re twisting my words.
MARZIA
No, no, no, no, no, I think you just don’t want to admit that I’m better than you.
Marzia shrugs.
MARZIA (CONT’D)
You’re just scared you’ll lose against me.
LUIS
Oh there is the smallest chance of me being scared of that.
MARZIA
Mhm, mhm, whatever you say Luis.
Marzia blushes slightly but doesn’t seem to have anything to say.
LUIS
(jokingly)
You know, I was stressing when you didn’t call on Monday.
She hits his arm gently.
MARZIA
Oh come on, I know you weren’t.
LUIS
(jokingly)
No, really I was. My stomach was churning and everything. I was pacing up and down my hallway allll night.
Luis smiles at her as he finished.
MARZIA
(smiling)
Come off it Luis. I think it’s a bit embarrassing, but, I didn’t call you because I didn’t want to seem desperate.
Marzia shrugs. She bites her lip, embarrassed.
LUIS
(jokingly pleading)
Whyyyy?
(normal)
You couldn’t do anything to make me think you’re desperate. I’d rather you just call me, you know?
MARZIA
Okay fair enough. I won’t wait next time then.
They speak jokingly. They do like each other.
LUIS
So there will be a next time?
MARZIA
Of course, unless you think otherwise?
LUIS
No, no, there definitely should be a next time. I know a good place we could go.
MARZIA
Oh really?
LUIS
Mhm, but I’ll keep it a surprise, you have to come out with me to find out.
MARZIA
Oh that can definitely be arranged.
They both smile and lightly laugh.
CUT TO:
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT BLOCK
Marzia and Luis are just outside her door. She has her back to the door. She looks up at him.
MARZIA
Thanks for bringing me home.
LUIS
Of course.
Luis smiles. She smiles back. They both lean in for a kiss. They do kiss and slowly pull away. Marzia unlocks the door.
MARZIA
Do you want to come in?
LUIS
Yeah.
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT
Marzia walks in, leaving the door open for Luis. He closes the door gently.
MARZIA
Just give me a second.
Luis’ phone starts ringing. Luis sees that it’s Argyle.
LUIS
Sorry do you mind if I take this?
MARZIA
Be my guest. I’ll be back soon.
Marzia walks into her bedroom and closes the door. Luis answers his phone. He walks to the balcony.
LUIS
Hey Argyle what’s up?
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Slow down, I can’t make out what you’re saying?
He pauses. Luis is confused at what Argyle wants.
LUIS (CONT’D)
You need me?
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
You’re cutting off, is everything okay? Tell me where you are.
He pauses. Luis looks at Marzia’s closed bedroom door.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Yeah okay I can come. Yeah I’ll meet you there. Just be careful.
Luis hangs up. He puts his phone in his pocket. He walks up to Marzia’s door and knocks on it.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Marzia?
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT — HER BEDROOM
Marzia has thrown off her clothes and is now in lingerie. She is stuffing her clothes into her drawer when Luis knocks. She doesn’t open the door just yet. She needs more time to prepare for Luis to come in.
MARZIA
Yeah what’s up?
LUIS (O.S.)
Look I’m really sorry, but my friend is in trouble. I think something bad has happened to him. I have to go.
MARZIA
Huh? Really? You have to go now?
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT
Luis has his ear pressed against her bedroom door.
LUIS
Yeah now. I really am sorry. Can I call you again? And we can arrange the next date?
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT — HER BEDROOM
Marzia sits down on her bed defeated.
MARZIA
Yeah that’s, that’s okay.
LUIS (O.S.)
I’ll make it up to you, I swear. I really did have fun tonight.
MARZIA
(slightly upset)
Me too.
She is sat with her hands in her lap.
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT
Luis is standing there unsure of what to say next.
LUIS
Well, bye.
Luis waits to her a response but doesn’t hear anything. He walks towards the door and leaves.
INT. MARZIA’S FLAT — HER BEDROOM
SLAM
Marzia hears the slam of the door and whispers.
MARZIA
Bye.
CUT TO:
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE — TUESDAY NIGHT
Argyle drives his car through an open garage-door of the warehouse.
INT. ARGYLE’S CAR
ARGYLE
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
Argyle opens the door and comes out, clutching his arm.
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE
He looks around.
ARGYLE
LUIS!
He shouts and looks around but sees no one. He hears a car screech.
LUIS (O.S.)
(shouting)
ARGYLE! Where are you!?
ARGYLE
I’m here! Follow my voice!
Argyle is still clutching his arm. He’s been shot in the left arm, around the bicep.
Luis runs to where Argyle is. He sees blood all over Argyle’s hand.
LUIS
Oh my god what the fuck happened?
ARGYLE
(at the top of his lungs)
I GOT SHOT WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED! LOOK AT ME MOTHERFUCKA!
Argyle leans in pain against the car. He winces, breathing through his teeth rapidly.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Look i-inside.
Luis looks shocked because of Argyle. He leans down to look in the open window. He sees what remains of Fletcher in the back seat. Luis screams.
LUIS
WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER!
ARGYLE
I THOUGHT YOU WERE FINE WITH THIS STUFF!
LUIS
I’M FINE WITH DEAD BODIES, BUT THAT’S A FUCKING MASSACRE AND A HALF. HALF HER HEAD AND CHEST ARE MISSING. HER EYES ARE LIKE FUCKING MELTED ARGYLE! WHAT THE FUCK!
ARGYLE
CALM DOWN MAN YOU’RE MAKING ME STRESSED!
LUIS
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.
Luis starts hyperventilating.
ARGYLE
I-I-I don’t even know how the fuck I’m alive Luis. Luis I could’ve fucking died man. I’m so fucking lucky. Jesus fucking Christ.
Luis looks confused but also freaked out because half of Fletcher’s face is missing. Something he has never seen before.
LUIS
Holy shit, holy shit. We’re gonna need to torch your car man cause what the fuck, you can’t drive around in that. That whole car is ruined. Burn it, drive it into the fucking river! I don’t fucking know.
ARGYLE
I’m so fucked, I’m so fucked.
A car can be heard from outside, pulling up to the warehouse. Luis and Argyle both face the direction of the sound.
LUIS
Argyle… Where you followed?
Argyle gulps.
ARGYLE
I was distracted, I didn’t see.
LUIS
(strained)
Fuck.
Luis takes out his gun and checks the magazine.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Can you still shoot?
ARGYLE
I think so but I’m losing blood here.
LUIS
Fuck wait.
Luis rips a chunk of his shirt and looks at Argyle’s left arm.
LUIS (CONT’D)
How do they do this shit again?
Luis wraps the cloth around the wound, tightening it.
LUIS (CONT’D)
That should be fine for now.
They hear a door creaking open. The voices are indistinguishable. Luis and Argyle crouch down behind the car.
MYSTERY VOICE 1 (O.S.)
Those fuckers better be dead in here.
MYSTERY VOICE 2 (O.S.)
Take my shotgun. I’m better with the 9mm.
MYSTERY VOICE 1 (O.S.)
Yeah, yeah. Put the mask on motherfucka.
MYSTERY VOICE 2 (O.S.)
I am, calm down.
Luis and Argyle are scared behind the car. Luis tries to look through the mirror to see who it is. He sees two people in masks walking towards the car. He looks over at Argyle, who is freaking out. Luis sends Argyle a concerning look, as if telling him to “get his shit together”.
MYSTERY VOICE 1
Oh shit, the car.
MYSTERY VOICE 2
Be careful, they’re definitely here.
Luis peers in the mirror of the car again. He creeps his arm up and aims it at the first man, holding the shotgun.
BANG
The first man is shot.
MYSTERY VOICE 1
AH FUCK!
BANG
The first man shoots his shotgun at the car on instinct, not hitting anything as he was shot in the leg. Each pair cannot fully hear the other pair, through the constant shooting and shouting from the two injured members of each pair.
MYSTERY VOICE 1 (CONT’D)
COME OUT MOTHERFUCKAS! GET YOUR PUSSY ARSES OUT HERE AND FACE US!
Argyle creeps to the front of the car. He has a clear shot of the first man. The second man notices a glistening next to the car: Argyle’s gun.
MYSTERY VOICE 2
WATCH OUT MARV!!
ARGYLE
FUCK YOU BITCH!
BANG, BANG
MYSTERY VOICE 2
MARV GET BACK HERE!
Luis stands up quickly and starts shooting at the first man as he runs, limping, back towards the second man. The second man takes cover behind a pillar. The first man hides behind a different pillar. With all the firepower being directed at the second man.
Luis and Argyle still don’t know who the mystery people are. Mystery Voice 1 is Marvin. Mystery Voice 2 is Joseph.
JOSEPH
Fuck Marv you good?
Argyle and Luis are shooting at them. Whenever Luis and Argyle stop shooting to reload, Joseph and Marvin start shooting.
MARVIN
Fuck it’s bad! AHHHHH!
Marvin can’t stop sobbing and wincing. Joseph waits for Argyle and Luis to stop shooting. He runs over to Marvin. He looks at Marvin’s leg. He rips the trouser a bit, to see a bullet wound in the middle of the thigh.
JOSEPH
Oh fuck that’s bad.
Joseph tries to put pressure on the wound whilst Marvin shoots behind them at the car.
Luis is counting his bullets.
LUIS
Fuck I’m low.
ARGYLE
Take mine. I need to put pressure on this.
Luis see that the wound has bled through the tied cloth he put on it. Argyle hands over his gun and bullets. He clutches his wound. Luis puts the magazine into his gun and shoots at the pillar.
Joseph takes cover.
JOSEPH
I gotta take you to the doctor.
MARVIN
Not her. I owe her money.
JOSEPH
There’s no one else Marv? Where will I take you?
MARVIN
I don’t know man. I don’t want to die. Fuck it hurts.
Marvin winces.
JOSEPH
You’re not going to fucking die on me Marv. I’m going to get you out of here.
Behind the car.
LUIS
How the fuck are we going to get out of here?
Luis gets up to shoot some more. The magazine empties.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Shit!
ARGYLE
Check Fletcher! Now!
Luis looks freaked out but opens the back car door. He slips and falls into brain-mush and blood on the floor. His face is covered in brain and blood.
LUIS
AHHHH! WHAT THE FUCK!! GET THIS SHIT OFF OF ME! FUCK NO!!
Luis tries to wipe his face. Joseph shoots at the car. Luis has to duck again. His face is mere millimetres away from the brain-mush of Fletcher. Joseph stops shooting. Luis looks through Fletchers and finds only a gun.
JOSEPH
Give me the shotgun. I’ll charge at them.
MARVIN
Ahh fuck me hard. Jesus that hurt. Don’t fucking do that Joseph. Stay here. I’ll do it.
Joseph looks upset.
JOSEPH
You can’t.
MARVIN
I’ll fucking do it. Just give me a moment.
Luis is shooting at the pillar with Fletcher’s pistol. Argyle crawls to the open door, still clutching his arm.
ARGYLE
Luis! Drive into the fuckers.
LUIS
HUH??? I don’t know what you mean.
ARGYLE
Open the door for me.
Argyle is wincing in pain constantly, just like Marvin. But nonetheless crawls into the car after Luis opens the door.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Get ready to carry me. Get out now.
Luis crawls out of the car. Argyle stays out of view of the windows. He leans over grabbing the remains of Fletcher and pushes down on the accelerator and turns the wheel.
Joseph helps Marvin up. Marvin comes from out of the pillar holding the shotgun. Joseph stays behind the pillar standing holding his gun. He’s low on bullets too.
MARVIN
For you!
Marvin locks eyes with Joseph as he prepares to run towards the car shooting with the shotgun.
CRASH
The car hits Marvin at full-force, sending him flying with the car across the warehouse. They hit a wall to a big thud.
Meanwhile Argyle jumped out. Luis quickly ran to him. Practically picking him up and walking him out of the back door.
Joseph stands in shock, his jaw on the ground and his eyes wide open. He runs to the car and sees Marvin’s body crushes by the car against the wall. Marvin is dead. Joseph drops his gun.
JOSEPH
Marv? Marv…? Marvin….?
The sounds of Luis’ car driving away can be heard.
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
Luis and Argyle stagger through his front door. Luis holding up Argyle. Luis helps him into the bathroom. Argyle holds himself up by the walls and sink. Luis grabs a med-kit. He takes out scissors and a needle with string. Luis passes a towel over to Argyle.
LUIS
Bite on that.
Luis looks at the wound.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Wait fuck give me a second.
Luis runs out of the bathroom and to a cupboard in the kitchen. Luis pulls out a tool box. He grabs a pair of pliers. He switches on the tap and runs water over the pliers. He grabs a bottle of vodka from the counter and pours it over the pliers.
LUIS (CONT’D)
(to himself)
I hope this fucking works.
Luis runs back to the bathroom. Using the pliers, he shoves them into Argyle’s wound and pulls out the bullet. He grabs the needle and string and starts sowing it up. Argyle screams in pain.
TIME CUT:
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
Argyle is lying in the bath sideways. His coat is off and his shirt is covered in blood. Luis face is covered in the dry blood of Fletcher still. Luis passes a glass of whiskey to Argyle.
LUIS
Here.
ARGYLE
Thanks.
Argyle takes a swig. His eyes are wide.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Jesus Christ Luis. This is the closest I’ve felt to death. My heart it’s, it’s going 1000 beats per minute. I’m freaking the fuck out over here. I thought this would be a simple fucking job, Jesus, why couldn’t it be a simple fucking job.
He puts down his whiskey. He holds his head in his hands. Luis sits down on the toilet which is next to the bath.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
I’m so fucking sorry for dragging you into this, seriously I was not in control there at all, oh my fucking lord.
LUIS
It’s okay Argyle. Just rest tomorrow.
ARGYLE
Yeah I will. What are you going to do?
LUIS
I have my cousin’s wife’s birthday thing I gotta go to, remember?
ARGYLE
Luis, I can’t lie, I can’t remember anything right now. My head feels like it got flushed down the toilet.
LUIS
I’ll stay here tonight. I’ll call you tomorrow when I’m about to go in to remind you if you’re still asleep when I leave..
ARGYLE
Okay thanks.
LUIS
No worries, just rest for me.
Argyle nods.
ARGYLE
Yeah.
They both slump in their seats, looking up at the fluorescent light of the bathroom.
CUT TO:
EXT. LUIS’ COUSIN’S HOUSE — WEDNESDAY NOON
Luis is walking up to the house. His face is now nice and clean. He is on the phone.
LUIS
Yeah I’m just outside Argyle. I’ll call you as soon as I’m out.
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Yeah a walk sounds good. Just take it easy.
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Bye.
Luis hangs up. He walks up to the door. He rings the doorbell. He looks around whilst waiting. The door opens.
It is Joseph.
JOSEPH
Luis! Come in, come in.
Luis comes inside.
INT. LUIS’ COUSIN’S HOUSE
Joseph shuts the door behind him.
LUIS
Hey Joe, how are you?
They speak with massive smiles on their faces.
JOSEPH
(jokingly)
I’m good, I’m good. Staying out of trouble?
Joseph says whilst pointing his finger at Luis’ chest.
LUIS
(jokingly)
I try.
He smiles. Joseph leads Luis to the dining room where there is a whole family, and decorations for the wife’s birthday. Joseph pulls out a chair for him. Luis sits. Everyone greets Luis, he smiles greatly.
TIME CUT:
EXT. LUIS’ COUSIN’S HOUSE — GARDEN
Luis is standing by himself at the back of the garden leaning against a wall. Joseph walks up to him. He takes out a cigarette and lights it.
JOSEPH
Why you all out here alone buddy?
LUIS
Ah, I didn’t wanna stay whilst they lectured me again.
JOSEPH
Again? What happened this time?
LUIS
You know the pizza place I was working out?
JOSEPH
Yeah Guiseppe or Goseppe, something like that right?
LUIS
Yeah, well I got fired.
JOSEPH
Fired? Shit, I’m sorry Luis. I know you liked that place.
LUIS
It’s fine though.
JOSEPH
Was it cause of the rec —
LUIS
Yep.
JOSEPH
Seriously? Some people care too much.
Joseph takes a couple of drags from his cigarette. He notices Luis still looks sad.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Something else happen?
LUIS
Hm? Yeah everything’s fine.
JOSEPH
Oh come off it. I’ve known you long enough to know you’re sad. What’s wrong?
LUIS
Uhm, my friend hurt himself.
JOSEPH
Like HURT, hurt himself?
LUIS
Wait no, what? No, no, no, no. He fell down a few flights of stairs in his flat block. He mangled up his arm and everything.
JOSEPH
Oh shit. Well I hope he gets better. He could probably sue the place if he wanted. I know a good lawyer if he needs.
LUIS
Ah no, he’s not really bothered by it. I’m just glad he’s okay. Where’s your girlfriend actually? Did she not want to come to this one either?
JOSEPH
Well after your Uncle Felipe kept asking creepy questions, she was a little put off.
LUIS
Fair enough. He can be a little strange. I barely remember her now if I’m honest. I don’t know if that’s bed.
JOSEPH
Oh I never hear the end of it, but also it’s not bad don’t worry. You only met like once a couple years ago, I wouldn’t expect you to remember.
Joseph chuckles a little. Luis smiles, he seems happier around Joseph.
LUIS
Any updates then?
JOSEPH
Actually yeah, we got engaged.
LUIS
Oh shit, when?
JOSEPH
Like two weeks ago now. I haven’t told anyone yet actually, you’re the first to know.
Luis smiles from how much Joseph seems to trust him.
LUIS
I’m so happy for you both. That’s amazing Joe.
JOSEPH
Thank you. I’m excited. I have no clue what we’ll do for our wedding but I think she has all of that planned around.
LUIS
Oh let’s hear.
JOSEPH
She said something about travelling around the Mediterranean. It sounds interesting actually. She want’s to spend some time in France, maybe rent a villa there for a couple of weeks. Then the same for Spain, Italy. I want to say also Greece.
LUIS
How are you going to afford that though?
JOSEPH
Oh well, you know.
Joseph gestures.
LUIS
Ohhhh. I forgot about that I’m sorry.
JOSEPH
Don’t be sorry. We’re just two ex cons in a pond.
Joseph smiles. Luis smiles back.
LUIS
What was it you did again?
JOSEPH
Stealing mainly. But as your elder I feel compelled to tell you not to do anything I would.
(more serious)
Don’t be stupid. You make a mistake, you let your emotions get the better of you in a world like that and you’ll go somewhere you can’t come back from.
Joseph points at Luis.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Promise me.
LUIS
I promise.
Joseph notices something out of the corner of his eye.
JOSEPH
(normal again)
I think your aunt is calling you over.
Luis turns to see his aunt waving at him.
LUIS
Ah fuck. I already know what she’s going to say. I’ll speak to you later yeah?
JOSEPH
Actually I gotta go to work soon. We’ll speak soon though. I’ll need your advice on all the engagement “fun”.
LUIS
Oh I’ll be ready.
Luis grins. He starts walking away. Joseph taps him on the back as he leaves. Joseph watches Luis walk down the garden and reaching his aunt. He takes aggressive puffs of smoke.
JOSEPH
(to himself)
That kid better not do anything stupid.
Joseph doesn’t suspect Luis at all of being involved with Argyle or his own hit.
CUT TO:
EXT. ARGYLE’S FLAT BLOCK — WEDNESDAY EVENING
Argyle is sat on a low-wall. Luis walks up to him.
LUIS
Sorry I forgot I took your key.
ARGYLE
It’s fine. None of the old women wanted to let me in for some reason.
LUIS
Argyle, you’re still wearing the same blood-stained shirt. I wonder why.
Luis walks up to the flat block doors and unlocks them.
ARGYLE
I guess we’ll never know.
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
The pair walk into the flat to see it completely ransacked. There are papers everywhere. All the drawers are pulled out and everything is thrown onto the floor.
ARGYLE
What the fuck?
Luis closes the door behind them. He looks around the flat confused and concerned. Argyle rushes off to his bedroom. Luis walks slowly to the kitchen, remaining in the open area.
ARGYLE (O.S.) (CONT’D)
Luis! They took my fucking guns.
LUIS
Is that all?
Argyle keeps moving shit around. Luis spots something on a mirror hanging in the open area. It is an envelope taped onto the middle of the mirror. Luis takes the envelope down. He pulls out the letter inside and starts reading it.
ARGYLE (O.S.)
They took my fucking gold!
LUIS
Argyle come in here.
Argyle walks up to Luis. He sees the letter.
On the letter is a list of addresses, all addresses of Argyle’s family members. At the bottom of the letter is a phone number with an inscription written next to it: “Call me.” Argyle takes the letter from Luis’ hands.
ARGYLE
This is everyone in my family. My parents, my siblings. How the fuck did they find out? I don’t even use my real name?
Argyle looks up at Luis as if he has all the answers.
LUIS
I don’t know Argyle. Maybe try the phone number.
Argyle takes out his phone and calls the number. Luis is unable to hear the voice from the phone.
ARGYLE
Hello? Who the fuck do you think you are coming into my home like this —
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Joseph is walking with the phone up to his ear.
JOSEPH
Do you want to find out who I am? Stay away from me, or I’ll start paying everyone on that list a visit.
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
ARGYLE
You wouldn’t fucking dare.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
JOSEPH
Maybe I’ve already seen some of them, Argyle. Are you really willing to take that bet, that I wouldn’t bother see to it that your family face consequence for your actions?
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE
Argyle doesn’t know how to reply. Luis looks at him worried.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
JOSEPH
Goodbye Argyle. Be safe.
Joseph hangs up the phone. He takes the sim card out of the phone and crushes it with his foot. He keeps walking.
CUT TO:
EXT. FRANK’S PUB — WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Joseph is standing across the street from Frank’s Pub. He is smoking. He sees Frank come out with two bags of rubbish. Frank tosses them next to a large metal bin, before going back inside. Joseph’s attention focuses on Frank’s car.
Joseph crosses the street and slyly walks into the alley. He goes to the back of the alley where he sees Frank’s car. He goes up to the boot door and starts fiddling with it. He manages to open the boot and crawls inside, shutting the boot gently as to not cause the alarm to go off. He crawls over the headrests of the backseats and slides onto the floor. It is extremely dark.
TIME CUT:
INT. FRANK’S CAR
Frank opens the door and gets into the car. He leans down to turn the radio on, looking back up in the mirror to see Joseph pointing a decorative 9mm at his head. Joseph’s eyes are filled with bloodlust.
FRANK
Joseph. Let’s not do anything stupid.
JOSEPH
Why not Frank? You were pretty stupid putting a hit on me.
FRANK
There are guards inside the pub Joe. If they hear gunshots then there’s no way you won’t make it out alive.
JOSEPH
Do I look like my plan is to leave alive?
Frank is slightly shaken by Joseph’s remark. He keeps looking Joseph in the eye through the mirror.
FRANK
What do you want then?
JOSEPH
Take the hit off of me.
FRANK
I can’t do that.
JOSEPH
Why not?
FRANK
Alan would never allow it. I never wanted to put the hit on you.
JOSEPH
But you did.
Frank turns around to look Joseph in the real eyes.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
TURN AROUND!
Frank turns back. His breathing is a bit erratic. He is trying to control his breathing but failing.
FRANK
I told you not to fuck up Joe. I told you not do to anything stupid but you did. You did this to yourself.
JOSEPH
Shut the fuck up Frank.
FRANK
You’ll be caught Joe. No matter what you do here, you’ll be caught.
Frank’s hand slowly moves to his passenger compartment where his own gun is hidden.
JOSEPH
What? Is Argyle going to kill me? That little bitch?
FRANK
You know?
JOSEPH
It really wasn’t hard. He’s barely a threat Frank, I mean, you would think that you’d send someone with more expertise to kill me, but I guess you figured any hitman would do huh?
Frank doesn’t say anything. His hand is almost at the compartment.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
You don’t want to talk?
Frank still doesn’t say anything. He opens the compartment and Joseph holds Frank’s arm, pressing his 9mm into the boss’ head.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Close the compartment.
Joseph pushes Frank’s head with the gun. Frank closes the compartment.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Hands on the wheel.
Frank puts both his hands on the wheel.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
I’ll give you a choice here Frank. You can give me the fifty-grand I’m owed and I’ll leave or you can do nothing and I’ll probably kill you at a later date.
FRANK
You need the 50K, huh? Are you leaving the country?
JOSEPH
Doesn’t matter what I want the money for. But I want what I’m owed.
FRANK
I can’t do that either Joseph.
The pub side door opens lightly.
GUARD 1 (O.S.)
HUH? Yeah I’ll get that in a second. I’m just gonna go on a smoke break.
FRANK
Looks like you’ve run out of time Joe.
GUARD 1 (O.S.)
Yeah, yeah, I’ll do it but after I have a smoke.
The side door starts opening more.
JOSEPH
Drive. Now!
Frank puts his foot on the pedal and the car pulls out of the alley. The side door fully opens and the guard comes out oblivious, ready to light his cigarette.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Keep driving.
Frank keeps driving. Not saying a word.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Right here.
Frank turns right.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Left.
Frank keeps following Joseph’s instructions. Joseph’s car is still with Ben.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Keep going… Turn left up there… Another right… Okay up there, pull over.
Frank pulls over. Joseph slowly and carefully gets out of the car still pointing his gun at Frank. Frank keeps his hand’s on the wheel. Joseph turns around and starts running. Frank opens his passenger compartment and grabs his gun. He gets out of his car.
Frank conceals the gun to not alert anyone. He runs after Joseph. Joseph turns left around a bend. Frank follows and sees Joseph go into a train station. Frank runs through the barrier, seeing Joseph running down the stairs. Frank gets to the platform, hearing the train doors closing. The train starts leaving as Frank reaches the platform. He can’t see Joseph anywhere.
FRANK
Fuck!
People around him look at him.
FRANK (CONT’D)
The fuck are you all looking at.
Frank stands clueless on the platform.
CUT TO:
INT. ARGYLE’S HUMBLE ABODE — WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Luis is leaning against the counter in Argyle’s kitchen. He fiddles with an empty shot glass. Argyle is on the phone in his room. He comes out.
ARGYLE
Luis I still can’t reach my parents. I’m going to go check on them.
LUIS
Do you want me to come?
ARGYLE
Do you mind if you see someone else instead?
LUIS
Yeah sure, who is it?
ARGYLE
A friend of Joseph’s. We were going to go this evening, but well it’s been a little derailed. I don’t want to leave it until tomorrow though. Do you mind going?
LUIS
Of course I’ll go.
ARGYLE
He’s an old man, he’s kinda neutral to everyone but I heard Joseph trusts him quite a bit.
LUIS
Alright. Do you have the address?
ARGYLE
Yes it’s in my room. Give me a sec.
Luis goes back to fiddling with the shot glass. Argyle is in his room.
ARGYLE (O.S.) (CONT’D)
I’ll give you my gun too, I refilled it before I went on my walk.
LUIS
You brought a gun on a peaceful walk?
ARGYLE (O.S.)
You can never be too careful!
Argyle walks out with his gun and a note in hand.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Here. This is it all.
LUIS
Cool, I’ll go now. Call me when you reach your parents.
ARGYLE
I will. I’ll leave in a moment I’m going to make one more phone call.
LUIS
Yeah of course.
Argyle starts dialling. Luis walks out of the apartment, slamming (not intentionally) the door behind him.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEN’S GUN ALCOVE
Luis walks up to the door. He knocks on it. A notch opens and Ben peers out.
BEN
What do you want?
LUIS
Hi I’m looking for Joseph. Do know him?
Ben look on either side of Luis.
BEN
Yes I know him. Come in.
Ben closes the notch and opens the door. Luis comes in. He slams the door shut. Luis walks forward slowly, ahead of Ben.
LUIS
Oh this looks kinda co(ol) —
Ben knocks Luis out with the butt of a rifle. Ben drags Luis’ lifeless body into the garage. He stops dragging just at the foot of Joseph’s car’s boot. He ties up Luis’ hands and feet with rope and duct-tape. He duct-tapes Luis’ mouth. He grabs a bag and puts it over Luis’ head, creating holes for air. Ben struggles but shoves Luis in the boot. He closes the boot. He takes out his phone.
BEN
Hey Joseph. I caught one of the fuckers you warned me about.
He waits for a response.
BEN (CONT’D)
Better to come quick than later. Just encase.
He pauses.
BEN (CONT’D)
See you soon.
CUT TO:
INT. JOSEPH’S CAR — BOOT — WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Luis opens his eyes slightly. He can’t see shit. The voices are muffled to him.
BEN (O.S.)
He’s in the boot.
JOSEPH (O.S.)
Thanks Ben.
BEN (O.S.)
Anytime Joseph.
Ben’s front door shuts. The car starts. Luis loses consciousness.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROOFTOP CARPARK — THURSDAY EARLY MORNING
Luis gains consciousness again. He feels the car going uphill. The car’s movement causes him to bounce around. The are on the top floor of the carpark. The rooftop.
Luis is worried and panicking. He tries to scream but it comes out as muffled.
The front car door opens then shuts. Luis hears footsteps walking towards the back of the car. A gun is cocked. The boot opens. The light is blinding despite there being a bag over Luis’ head.
JOSEPH
GET OUT HERE YOU MOTHERFUCKER!
Joseph drags Luis out of the boot, causing him to fall on the ground. Luis doesn’t immediately recognise Joseph’s voice as he is confused from his head being hit, and also due to the fact Joseph is shouting.
Joseph starts dragging Luis across the rough ground. Luis is unaware of where there are.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
YOU FUCKING BITCH! I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY!
Joseph grabs Luis by the shirt and drags him over the edge of the rooftop. He causes Luis to lean over the edge. He has his gun in his free hand. Luis face is facing down to the many storey drop down below. Using his hand with the gun, Joseph pulls the bag of his head. He throws the bag on the ground behind them. He presses the gun into the back of Luis’ head.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
DO YOU WANT ME TO FUCKING DROP YOU ARGYLE?
LUIS
(muffled)
WAIT NO! PLEASE!
JOSEPH
HUH??
Joseph looks confused. Why is the voice muffled? He turns Luis around. They make eye contact with each other.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
LUIS????
Using his gun hand, Joseph rips off Luis’ duct-tape from his mouth.
LUIS
AHHHHHHHH! FUCK ME THAT HURT!
JOSEPH
LUIS?????
Joseph repeats it still shocked. Luis finally focuses on Joseph.
LUIS
JOSEPH???? YOU’RE THE HITMAN JOSEPH????
JOSEPH
YOU’RE ARGYLE????
LUIS
STOP SHOUTING!!!
Joseph is still pointing his gun at Luis’ face in shock. Neither of them have moved.
LUIS (CONT’D)
I’m not fucking Argyle!
JOSEPH
Then what are you doing here? Luis what the fuck man? I was about to kill you?
LUIS
You weren’t actually going to right?
JOSEPH
No I fucking was Luis! I was gonna shoot you in the head then drop you.
Joseph realises that he is still aiming his gun at Luis and holding him up.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Oh shit sorry.
Joseph lets go. Causing Luis to fall on his side to the floor.
LUIS
Ow! Pick me up.
Joseph picks Luis up so he’s sat against the wall. Both look dumbfounded and shocked to the core. Joseph bring his hands to his head, still holding his gun.
JOSEPH
Fuck, fuck, fuck, I can’t I was about to kill you. Wait, but you have been after me? Are you one of the hitmen?
LUIS
Yes.
JOSEPH
What?! How didn’t you realise it was me!!
LUIS
I never fucking heard your voice properly!
JOSEPH
But isn’t it suspicious that you going after a man called Joseph who’s involved?!
LUIS
What fucking logic is that!? There are a million Josephs! At least a quarter of them are criminals!
Both are still so confused and shocked.
JOSEPH
Wait, wait, wait. So who the fuck is Argyle??
Luis calms down.
LUIS
That’s my friend, we were working together.
Joseph has been walking around waving his gun around like a maniac this whole time out of shock. He starts calming down now too.
JOSEPH
Oh my lord Luis. How the fuck — I just — Jesus Christ!
Joseph goes to sit next to the still tied-up Luis. He puts his gun away and rests his head against the wall.
LUIS
Erhm, Joe. Could you?
Joseph looks over, realising Luis is asking to be untied. Joseph takes out a knife and starts cutting the rope and duct tape.
JOSEPH
So you really saw 200K and thought “damn I guess I’ll be a criminal”.
LUIS
Hey it wasn’t like that. I need the money. I keep getting fired Joe, and Argyle asked if I could help him, I mean it seemed like simple money. But so far this week, I’ve been shot at, had brain-mush rubbed into my face, had to perform emergency surgery on Argyle, and abducted and dangled off a roof.
JOSEPH
I am sorry about that. That was my bad completely.
They both sit for a moment in shock and silence.
LUIS
What do we do now?
JOSEPH
Well I hope you’re not thinking of still killing me.
LUIS
Joe, of course not.
JOSEPH
I guess call Argyle. Get him to come here and we’ll try to explain this.
LUIS
Okay that sounds good.
Luis pats his pockets for his phone. Joseph pulls out a phone it is Luis’.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Wait you had my phone and didn’t check inside?
JOSEPH
Hey, hey, calm down Luis, I thought it was Argyle.
LUIS
Okay, whatever.
Luis takes the phone from Joseph. He calls Argyle.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Hey Argyle.
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
I’m fine, I’m fine don’t worry.
(to Joseph )
Where are we?
JOSEPH
Riverside Parking. Putney.
LUIS
Alright, come to Riverside Parking in Putney.
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
See you soon
Luis hangs up.
JOSEPH
Jesus.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROOFTOP CARPARK — THURSDAY EARLY MORNING
A car drives up. It parks next to Joseph’s car. Argyle comes out and spots Joseph. He takes his gun out. Luis quickly gets up and goes in front of Joseph.
ARGYLE
Move Luis, that’s Joseph.
LUIS
I know.
ARGYLE
Wait what?
LUIS
I know. He’s my cousin-in-law, or something like that, I don’t fucking know the technicalities. Lower your gun Argyle.
ARGYLE
But the money?
LUIS
I’m not going to let you kill someone who’s part of my family Argyle, c’mon.
ARGYLE
Yeah I know. But what about the bosses?
LUIS
I don’t know but just give me your gun.
ARGYLE
Fine.
Argyle walks over to Luis and gives him his gun.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
What do we do know then?
JOSEPH
We can go to mine, and figure stuff out there. It’s better than here in the open.
LUIS
Yeah okay. You good with that Argyle?
ARGYLE
Luis you already know I’ll follow you. I’m not going to pounce of Joseph.
JOSEPH
(deadpan)
That’s good to hear.
(normal)
Luis I’ll drive you. Argyle you follow.
ARGYLE
Yeah, alright.
They get in their cars and drive down the carpark.
CUT TO:
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE — THURSDAY MORNING
Joseph closes the door behind them.
JOSEPH
Make yourselves comfortable. By the way Argyle, the box on the coffee table is all yours. I took it for safe-keeping, you understand.
Argyle walks over to the coffee table and opens the box. It is full of gold bullions.
ARGYLE
We could’ve had more Luis.
LUIS
Argyle, stop. What do you want to do then Joseph?
They all sit around the coffee table. Joseph sits in thought for a minute.
JOSEPH
Wait a second.
Joseph ruffles through his coat pockets. He pulls out his invitation to the event. He places it next to Argyle’s box. Argyle moves his box of gold to get a better view.
ARGYLE
You were invited?
LUIS
What is this I don’t understand?
JOSEPH
It’s this stupid event to celebrate Alan’s birthday and the anniversary of the organization.
LUIS
The fuck? Is Alan the main one?
ARGYLE
Yeah.
JOSEPH
It’s some old, geezer, sentimental crap.
LUIS
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you speak like this.
JOSEPH
They put a hit on me Luis, I’m not going to be sucking them off.
LUIS
Fair enough.
Luis nods as he finishes his sentence.
JOSEPH
Anyway, they hold the event at Alan’s nightclub. Where Alan also holds his main gold reserve.
ARGYLE
Are you sure?
JOSEPH
Yes. I’ve seen him come out of his office with a bag of gold, countless times. There’s nowhere in there to casually leave a bag of gold unless you hid it. Like a secret room or panel?
LUIS
Couldn’t the bag have already been there?
JOSEPH
I doubt it. I’ve been in the office before he asked me and Frank to leave. Then he would come out with bags of gold. Obviously he’d have us carry it. I’m certain he has a reserve in his office. Even if it isn’t in his office, it’s in the nightclub. Frank runs his mouth a lot when drunk, so it was lucky I was loyal until now. He believes the reserve is the nightclub. He says there’s no other place Alan trusts than his own home.
ARGYLE
So you want to steal it?
JOSEPH
Yeah. You guys can.
LUIS
What about you?
JOSEPH
I want to blow the place up. Kill them all and be able to walk away from all this without having to look over my shoulder. I’m sure you both would want that too.
ARGYLE
How much gold do you think Alan has?
JOSEPH
A ton? As in 1000KG. Possibly more.
LUIS
1000KG? And we get to walk away with no one knowing?
JOSEPH
That’s how I’d like it to go.
LUIS
(eager)
Yeah I’m more than okay with that. Argyle?
ARGYLE
I don’t know. It’s not like I’m friends with any of them. But what about innocent people who happen to be there?
(debating)
I would like 1000kg in gold.
JOSEPH
Last year they had a boss-only after event. I’m telling you they go all out on this to make Alan happy. They’re be no innocents.
ARGYLE
Fuck it, I’m more loyal to you Luis than Frank, I’ll do whatever you do.
Luis nods.
JOSEPH
Okay we’ll prepare today then.
LUIS
Can you guys give me a second?
ARGYLE
Yeah sure.
Luis stands up and walks out onto the balcony.
JOSEPH
So why are you called Argyle?
Argyle turns his head.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
That’s not your actual name right?
ARGYLE
No.
JOSEPH
Why Argyle then?
ARGYLE
I like Die Hard. It’s a cool name.
Argyle shrugs.
JOSEPH
I guess. What’s your real name?
ARGYLE
God would need to strike me down before I told you.
Argyle stands up.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Can I have a drink?
JOSEPH
Help yourself.
CUT TO:
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE — BALCONY
Luis closes the door and shuts himself off on the balcony. He dials a number.
LUIS
Hey Marzia.
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
I’m okay, I’m okay. My friend was badly hurt he had to get stitches and the whole lot… I just stayed with him the whole of yesterday and last night. I didn’t really have time to call you… No that’s okay don’t worry, it’s my fault… Well actually would you want to go out today?
He leans over the balcony, and pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Yeah I’ll take you to the place I told you about. Can we meet at 8?
He pauses.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Perfect, I’ll see you then.
Luis hangs up.
INT. LUCILLE’S HOUSE
Through the glass doors of the balcony we hear a muffled but still prominent:
LUIS
YES!
Argyle looks up.
JOSEPH
A girl?
ARGYLE
Yep.
Joseph nods.
Luis comes back inside.
JOSEPH
Okay, so Argyle you know what you’re doing right?
ARGYLE
Yeah, I take your car, park it somewhere random, convince Frank we gotta be at the event patrolling encase you show up.
JOSEPH
Perfect, and me and Luis will get the explosives and van.
LUIS
Let’s go.
CUT TO:
INT. FRANK’S PUB — THURSDAY NOON
Argyle walks into the pub. He walks towards Frank’s office. There is a guard outside the office.
GUARD 2
You’re not allowed in.
ARGYLE
I need to talk to Frank.
GUARD 2
No one’s allowed sorry.
ARGYLE
Can you tell him Argyle is here please.
GUARD 2
Sure.
Guard 2 knocks on Frank’s door. He goes inside.
GUARD 2 (O.S.) (CONT’D)
An Argyle is here for you.
FRANK (O.S.)
Send him in.
Guard 2 walks out of the office.
GUARD 2
Go in.
Argyle walks past the guard and into the office.
FRANK
Close the door.
Argyle closes the door.
FRANK (CONT’D)
Is everything alright Argyle?
ARGYLE
I found something you might like to see. But I’ll have to drive you.
FRANK
Fine. But my guard needs to come.
ARGYLE
Yeah no worries.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Argyle and Frank are stood next to Joseph’s car. Guard 2 is off in the background but is there.
FRANK
Yeah this is Joseph’s car. That gun too is the same one he threatened me with.
ARGYLE
I don’t understand why he would come back to his car though if he left on train? It seems weird.
FRANK
Yes.
ARGYLE
Me and Luis could patrol the event tomorrow if you need. Everyone can stay inside the hall, and we just make sure no one can get in. Free of charge obviously.
FRANK
Maybe. There will be guards.
ARGYLE
Yeah but they’ll get distracted with any disturbances, we’ll only focus on anything related to Joseph.
FRANK
I’ll have to ask but I agree with you. I’d rather have as much guards as we can. I don’t trust Joseph to stay away. You’ll both need suits.
ARGYLE
Yeah of course. Call me when it’s sorted out.
FRANK
Okay, thank you Argyle.
ARGYLE
No problem.
Argyle follows Frank and guard 2 back to his car but doesn’t get in with them. He watches them leave. He gets his phone out when Frank’s car leaves his vision.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Yeah he said he’ll ask.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON
Luis and Joseph are stood at the back of a van. Joseph opens the door and looks inside. Luis is on the phone.
LUIS
That sounds like a yes to me.
JOSEPH
We good on Argyle’s side?
Luis still on the phone.
LUIS
More or less yes. We’re waiting for confirmation.
JOSEPH
That’s a yes then.
LUIS
(to Argyle)
Yeah let me check.
(to Joseph)
Joe we good here?
Joseph opens the van doors more, allowing Luis to see the hoards of explosives.
LUIS (CONT’D)
(to Argyle)
We’re good. See you later.
Luis hangs up.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Fuck this actually might work.
JOSEPH
I hope so. You can pick up your suit with me before you go on your date.
LUIS
Cool.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — THURSDAY NIGHT
Luis walks up to Marzia.
LUIS
Hey Marzia!
Marzia turns around smiling.
MARZIA
Hey! I got you a little gift, I hope that’s okay?
Marzia pulls out a little box.
LUIS
Yeah of course. What is it?
MARZIA
Open it.
Luis opens it to find: a ping pong ball.
Luis smiles widely. They hug and walk off down the street.
TIME CUT:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT — FRIDAY MORNING
Luis wakes up, he sees Marzia next to him sleeping peacefully. He doesn’t want to wake her up.
He kisses her on the forehead and gets out of bed.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT — LATER
The shower is on. Marzia wakes up to the sun on her face. She stretches and gets out of bed.
She waltzes over to the kitchen where breakfast is ready for her. She smiles at the sight of it. The shower can still be heard.
She keeps eating her food and looking around. Snooping throughout the flat. She notices a neatly folded suit on a stool near the kitchen counter. The shower turns off. She touches the suit and picks it up a little bit, so the bottom is still on the stool.
She picks up the suit more, so that the bottom is now dangling. A soft bang can be heard. Luis has just come out of the shower. Both are looking at the gun which has fallen from Luis’ suit.
Marzia is stood shocked, suddenly she reaches for the landline telephone and is about to dial: 999 , when Luis comes up to her and takes the phone out of her hand.
MARZIA
Stop!
Luis backs off.
LUIS
Marzia, I promise you I can explain this.
MARZIA
You can explain a gun? Do you kill people Luis?
LUIS
What?? No Marzia I’ve never killed anyone. The gun isn’t even loaded, like at all.
Luis goes to pick up the gun and takes out the magazine. He shows her the empty chamber and empty magazine.
LUIS (CONT’D)
See. It’s empty.
MARZIA
I’m confused. Why do you just have a random empty gun? I don’t understand it.
LUIS
I’m helping my cousin-in-law get out of trouble.
She doesn’t look convinced.
LUIS (CONT’D)
I swear. He’s involved with some pretty bad people and we were going to scare them off today. It’s the only reason why I have the gun. I promise you. I would never kill someone, I could never do that. The gun is purely a fear tactic.
Marzia is clearly conflicted.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Sit please.
She sits down on a kitchen stool.
LUIS (CONT’D)
I really like you Marzia, I don’t want to throw this away because of this. But I do understand if you’re freaked out and want to leave.
MARZIA
You promise it’s just to scare those people?
LUIS
I promise.
Marzia sighs.
MARZIA
Okay. I believe you. And you’re doing this thing today?
LUIS
Yeah. You can stay here if you want and wait until I get back.
MARZIA
Can I? Just to make sure you get back safe.
LUIS
Yeah of course. There’s lots of food in the fridge, you can order stuff too, I have cash.
MARZIA
You don’t need to give me cash Luis. Just don’t do anything stupid.
LUIS
I won’t.
Marzia gets up to give him a light kiss.
LUIS (CONT’D)
You can’t tell anyone about this either.
MARZIA
I’ll stay here, I’m not going to tell anyone.
LUIS
Thank you. If I’m not back by tonight, then I may come back tomorrow morning, is that alright?
MARZIA
Yeah that’s more than fine. Just whatever you’re doing please be safe.
LUIS
Nothing bad will happen.
MARZIA
When do you have to leave?
LUIS
Around midday? I could remake you some breakfast as yours is probably cold right not, and then we could watch something. Or better yet I can beat you in ping pong.
Luis smiles at her. She gives a quick chuckle, staying smiling at him.
MARZIA
Yeah I’d like that.
CUT TO:
EXT. STREETS OF LONDON — FRIDAY EVENING
Joseph is driving the van of explosives. Luis and Argyle sit next to him at the front.
ARGYLE
We have all the bags too right?
JOSEPH
Yes, we have everything. Don’t worry about it. I’ll drop you off up here. I’ll meet you at 8.15 round back.
LUIS
Yeah, we’ll see you then.
Argyle gets out first, leaving the door open for Luis.
Luis holds his gun, he is holding a loaded magazine. He hesitates but loads the gun. He gets out of the van.
They’re alone on the pavement in their suits. Joseph drives off. They start walking.
CUT TO:
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL — FRIDAY EVENING
Argyle and Luis are with Frank. They’re led into the main event hall. There is a generic song and dance performance happening. People are talking amongst themselves.
FRANK
These two are our designated patrollers for Joseph.
Alan points at Argyle.
ALAN
You were here last time. Why haven’t you killed him yet?
Argyle looks around he doesn’t know what to say.
LUIS
We’re trying sir. It’s why we’re going to spend the whole night ensuring your safety above our own.
No one says anything.
ALAN
That was a load of shit, but you have backbone boy. Go do your job.
Frank leads Argyle and Luis out of the main event hall.
Alan spots a young woman, early twenties.
ALAN (CONT’D)
Phil.
PHIL
Yes boss?
ALAN
That one. Bring her here.
PHIL
Yes sir.
Phil stands up and walks up to the woman. She stands up and follows Phil to Alan’s booth.
PHIL (CONT’D)
Here miss.
ALAN
Phil you can leave.
Phil nods and leaves.
ALAN (CONT’D)
Now what is your name.
ELENA
Elena sir.
ALAN
Elena? That’s a pretty name for a pretty girl.
Alan smiles creepily. She smiles back.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — BACK DOORS
Argyle and Luis are waiting by the doors.
ARGYLE
It’s 8.15. Where is he?
LUIS
It literally just turned 8.15, he’ll be here in a second.
The van turns the corner and comes up to them.
LUIS (CONT’D)
See.
Joseph gets out of the van. He goes to the back of the van.
JOSEPH
You guys ready?
Argyle and Luis both nod. Joseph opens the back doors of the van, revealing the obscene amounts of explosives.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
Luis, you carry from the top of the stairs to the basement. Argyle you’re back doors to top of stairs. I’m van to doors.
LUIS
Okay. Let’s go.
Luis runs to the staircase. Joseph carries the box to the doors and passed them off to Argyle. Argyle starts walking to Luis.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
Alan is holding the young woman’s hand.
ALAN
Let me take you somewhere dear.
ELENA
Okay sir.
Alan stands up and leads Elena towards the exit of the main hall. Phil sees them.
PHIL
Sir is everything okay?
ALAN
It will be when I get some time alone with her. No one come for me. You understand?
PHIL
Yes boss.
Alan and Elena leave the hall.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
The trio keep their chain of explosives going. There are no problems so far.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — ALAN’S OFFICE
Alan leads Elena by her waist in a grotesque manner. He guides her into the office. She walks in front of his desk and turns to face him. The sound of a belt unbuckling is heard. Alan closes the office doors.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
Phil and Frank are sitting next to each other, watching the performance. They are both drinking.
PHIL
It’s rank, he’s been doing this more recently now. Younger too.
FRANK
Isn’t that Patrick’s daughter too?
PHIL
I think so.
FRANK
He used to bring her by the pub as a kid, I couldn’t imagine Alan not seeing her as anything other than that. I know I can’t.
PHIL
It’s just what he’s into I guess.
GUARD 1
Sir, O’Donnelly would like to speak to you both.
Frank spits out his drink.
FRANK
What?
GUARD 1
Should I send him over?
PHIL
Yes, yes send him over.
They see O’Donnelly walking towards them. He reaches the table and sits down.
O’DONNELLY
Hello lads.
FRANK
What do you want O’Donnelly?
O’DONNELLY
I just thought I should come by to pay my dues. Also I hear there’s some confusion with my involvement in Bob Johnson’s murder. I would like to share my insight.
O’Donnelly smiles sheepishly.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
Joseph goes to the doors with bags instead of explosives. Argyle is there expecting more explosives.
JOSEPH
There are no more explosives.
ARGYLE
Really?
JOSEPH
The gold bags, don’t forget them.
They start walking towards Luis at the end of the hallway.
ARGYLE
Luis! There’s no more explosives.
LUIS
Oh shit good. We can start looking for the office now.
JOSEPH
Be careful, don’t get caught.
ARGYLE
Don’t get caught either.
Joseph runs down the stairs to the basement.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — BASEMENT
Joseph looks at the massive pile of explosives and starts unboxing them all.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
Luis and Argyle are walking with the bags for gold thrown over their shoulders. They hear a soft bang, not a gunshot, but more someone dropping or breaking something.
ARGYLE
Where did that come from?
LUIS
We’ll go this way.
They head down one direction.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
O’Donnelly continues talking to Phil and Frank.
O’DONNELLY
Bobby was a snitch. He snitched on me multiple times, with no remorse. Now I didn’t know that other guy was police but I know Bobby put a hit on that guy so I couldn’t accuse him of being a snitch.
PHIL
We know most of this.
O’DONNELLY
Maybe, this is just my insight Phil. Your hitman, what was his name Frank?
FRANK
Joseph.
O’DONNELLY
Joseph did a good thing. I didn’t have a hit on Bobby but I damn as sure was going to, so Joseph killing Bobby like that saved me a fair amount of money.
PHIL
So why are you telling us this?
O’DONNELLY
So you know you’ve pissed off a hitman for no reason whatever. A hitman who has killed some of my own people in recent days as a direct cause of you. Goodnight to you both.
O’Donnelly gets up and walks away.
FRANK
Do you think Joseph’s doing something?
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — BASEMENT
Joseph has set up many explosives. With half of the boxes emptied.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
Argyle and Luis reach where they think the noise is coming from. It is Alan’s Office.
They hear a faint groaning.
LUIS
Should we go inside?
ARGYLE
I think so. Say Alan is in there, then we could definitely overpower him. Plus we have guns.
Argyle puts his hand on the door handle and quietly opens it.
ALAN
(out of breath)
Ugh, ugh, yeah baby, ugh!
Elena is quiet.
Argyle and Luis see Elena bent over Alan’s desk. Alan is thrusting into her, his hands on her waist and his trousers bunched up around his ankles. His butt open to the wind.
ALAN
(out of breath)
Tell me I’m the best! I want to hear it! Tell me!
Argyle chuckles.
Alan turns around shocked.
ALAN
(shocked and angry)
What are you doing!?
Elena turns around and her eyes widen. She lowers her dress and runs out of the room. Luis sees her run towards the back exit.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
You’ve got game Alan, I’ll give you that.
ALAN
What the fuck are you two doing here?
Argyle and Luis both look at each other. Without saying a word they both pull their guns on Alan.
LUIS
Where’s the gold Alan?
ALAN
What?
LUIS
The gold. We know it’s here.
ARGYLE
Don’t try fucking trick us Alan. We will fuck you up.
The pair get closer. Argyle presses his gun into Alan’s head.
ALAN
You know what, now I remember something about some gold.
ARGYLE
That’s great Alan.
LUIS
Would you like to show us?
Alan (trouser-less) bends down in the side of the room and pushing in a panel. There is a keypad and he unlocks it, desperately not wanting to get shot. The pair throw their bags onto Alan.
ARGYLE
Put the gold in the bags creep.
Alan starts filling the bags at gun point.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
I’ll start with this bag. Keep watching him Luis.
Luis nods. Argyle walks out with the first bag of gold. Alan keeps filling up the bags. Luis hears a noise from outside the office. He goes to investigate quickly, thinking Alan won’t be able to do anything.
Alan jumps on the back of Luis and tries to take Luis’ gun from him. Alan pulls hard and causing the two of them to go flying in the opposite direction. Luis quickly gets up and punches Alan.
LUIS
Stay the fuck down!
Luis goes to get his gun which has been knocked into a corner. Whilst Luis isn’t paying full attention of Alan, Alan slowly opens a drawer in his desk, and takes out a gun.
BANG
CUT TO:
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
Shots of champagne being popped in the main hall.
CUT TO:
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — ALAN’S OFFICE
The bullet grazes Luis’ shoulder, he staggers and turns quickly to —
BANG, BANG
Argyle is standing in the doorway with his gun pointed at the now dead Alan.
ARGYLE
Are you okay?
Luis touches his shoulder. He winces.
LUIS
It’s okay enough. I can still carry.
ARGYLE
Okay good. Focus on filling up for now.
LUIS
Yeah I will.
Argyle leaves the room with another bag of gold. They can only carry one bag at a time because of how heavy they are.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — BASEMENT
Joseph finishes setting up the bombs. He goes to the timer section. He sets the time and leaves the basement.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
Joseph comes up the stairs and finds Luis filling up the bags, and Argyle transporting them. He notices the dead Alan in the corner of the room.
JOSEPH
Luis pass that bag. I’ll start taking stuff to the van.
LUIS
Yeah, yeah, here.
The amount of gold in the reserve is diminishing quickly.
Argyle and Joseph are carrying backs from the office as quickly as possible.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — MAIN HALL
Frank is tapping the table of the booth.
ANNOUNCER (O.S.)
Could all non-members please leave the building. Thank you.
PHIL
Could you stop that?
FRANK
I think I’m going to check on Alan. He’s been gone for a while now.
PHIL
Oh come on Frank, he’s probably just having fun with the girl.
FRANK
I’ll be back soon.
Phil doesn’t reply.
INT. ALAN’S FRONT — HALLWAY
Frank is walking through the hallway. He sees the door to Frank’s office open. He opens the door more. The panel is open, and there is no trace of gold whatsoever. Frank is shocked. He turns to see the dead body of Alan. Frank’s eyes widen. He takes out his gun and walks out of the office. He sees down one hallway the whole trio. He shouts after them. He sees that they have bags.
FRANK
HEY! STOP RIGHT THERE!
Frank hobbles after them.
EXT. ALAN’S FRONT — BACK DOORS
Luis puts the final bag into the back of the van. Frank comes out of the building’s back doors.
BANG, BANG, BANG
Frank misses all his shots.
Luis looks at Frank, he is holding his gun, he gets out of Frank’s site.
LUIS
I can’t shoot Argyle.
Luis is leaning against van out of site of Frank.
ARGYLE
It’s fine Luis don’t worry.
Joseph and Argyle keep shooting at Frank.
BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG
Frank falls to the ground. Joseph walks up to him and kicks his gun away.
Argyle helps Luis into the van.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Joseph! We’ve gotta go!
Frank raises his head in terror.
FRANK
Argyle?
JOSEPH
Look at me frank.
Joseph kicks Frank over, making him go on his back.
JOSEPH (CONT’D)
You did this to yourself.
FRANK
Fuck you, you little pus —
BANG, BANG
Joseph runs away from Frank’s bleeding out body. He gets into the drivers seat and they drive away.
The van drives away from the building. We see a crowd of civilians, on the main street, who weren’t allowed in the members only meeting.
BOOOM
Alan’s Front blows up.
CUT TO:
EXT. SIDE OF MOTORWAY — SATURDAY MORNING
Each member of the trio receives £17,687,435.3333 in gold. Or 366 bars of gold each.
Luis and Argyle are sat in the back of the van. Joseph is packing his gold into the boot of a (his) new car. Lucille is there leaning against the car.
JOSEPH
How’s the shoulder?
LUIS
It’s good Joe.
Luis smiles.
LUIS (CONT’D)
Seriously, enjoy your holiday.
JOSEPH
We’ll try.
LUCILLE
Joseph!!! Hurry up!!
LUIS
(jokingly)
She’s a catch.
JOSEPH
You joke but she is. Also for the last two bars of gold, you guys can keep them.
ARGYLE
Really?
LUIS
You sure Joe?
JOSEPH
I’m sure. Consider it a thank you for trusting me.
LUIS
I’ll always trust you Joseph. I know you will.
Luis and Joseph hug.
JOSEPH
Take care Argyle. Keep trusting Luis, he seems to be doing well by you.
Joseph chuckles slightly.
ARGYLE
I will.
They shake hands.
JOSEPH
I’ll see you guys around.
LUCILLE
Bye boys.
Lucille weakly waves and gets into the care with Joseph. They drive off, merging onto the motorway.
CUT TO:
INT. LUIS’ FLAT BLOCK — HALLWAY — SATURDAY MORNING
Argyle is helping Luis carry all Luis’ gold to his flat. Luis had just helped Argyle with his. Argyle and Luis are out of breath.
ARGYLE
Why does fucking 366 bars have to weigh so damn much.
LUIS
367 for us, Joseph gave us the spare two.
ARGYLE
Luis I do not care, heavy is heavy.
They reach Luis’ door.
ARGYLE (CONT’D)
Do you need help bring it in or are you good?
LUIS
I’m good, I’ll call you later.
ARGYLE
Okay man, enjoy your lovers’ reunion.
Argyle leaves having jokingly blown a kiss at Luis.
LUIS
I’ll see you soon.
INT. LUIS’ FLAT
Luis opens the door. He comes inside and kicks with him all the bags of gold. He closes his door. He carries one bag of gold with him towards his bed.
The bathroom door opens.
MARZIA
Luis! You’re finally fucking back! You had me worried, I thought you meant like 3a.m not 9 —
Luis drops the bag of gold at the foot of his bed. It is open.
Luis kisses her, she kisses back. The next few lines of dialogue are said in between kisses.
MARZIA (CONT’D)
Did everything go as planned?
LUIS
Yes, perfectly.
MARZIA
That’s good.
The camera pans slowly down their bodies as they start to take each other’s tops off.
We are looking at their legs.
MARZIA (CONT’D)
Did you get hurt?
LUIS
I was hurt a little but I’ll survive.
The Camera pans further down to the unzipped bag.
Some clothes are thrown into frame past and beside the bag. They lay on the floor.
The Camera zooms into the bag. We see the gold bullions.
There are some splatters of blood over them. They seem red. We linger on this image as:
