The bell rings, a period ends,
I see you walking down the stairs and I call out,
You must not have heard me, that’s okay,
I meet you two at teh gates and we head out for lunch,
That was funny, can I — , okay nevermind,
Someone pushes past me,
Three do not fit on the pavement,
So I move back,
I watch you talk and continue on as if I am not even there,
I stare at the pavement cracks and wait,
I do not know what to do,
There’s a string connecting you and I am just not included in that knot,
I am not attached.
Is there something wrong with me?
Did I do something bad?
Year after year, and friend after friend,
I watch the back of heads sway in front of me,
I listen to conversations I can only eavesdrop,
I stay behind,
I move back,
Why couldn’t we have all been connected together?
Or was there just not enough room for me?
